"How bad was this store? Terrible. I ordered a factory refurbed Philips DVP642. The unit did not come in the box for a Philips DVP642. It came wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap in a box large enough to fit two DVD players. Big shock, it was busted. After initiating the return, it took overstock almost thirty days (with me nagging every couple of days) to e-mail me a return shipping label. I'm so dissapointed in how the item was shipped to me, it was as if a ten year old was in charge of packing. Don't buy from the big "o". They stink."
"On April 17, 2005, I purchased a Philips DVP642/37 DVD player from Overstock.com, for what I thought was a great price. Even though it was “refurbished”, it carried a 90 day manufacturer warranty. When I got it home and hooked it up, I tried playing a few discs that I had recorded on my PC. Strange things would happen: a blue screen would flash and the disc would eject in the middle of the movie. Just real random behavior. I wanted to make sure that this unit was truly defective, and so I played some brand new DVDs I had purchased in both my Panasonic RV-31 and the Philips DVP642. It turns out the Philips player had severe problems. Because I was busy at work, I didn’t figure this out until the date was outside of the Overstock.com 30 day return window.
I first sent an E-mail to the Philips Support Center, which resulted in an automated response to give them a call, which I did. After a while on the phone, I was given an RMA number and sent the unit in. It was received by the Philips repair depot on 7/1/2005, which was well before the 90 day warranty cutoff. A month goes by and I hear nothing. I E-mail the Philips Support Center asking, ‘what is going on with this return?’ The canned response comes back to call them. I do, and after 20 minutes on the phone, with numerous times on hold, speaking with some guy from India, I have no resolution, and I’m told someone will contact me from customer service in a couple of days. At that point, I thought that I’d never see any replacement unit. I sent a letter to the CEO of Philips because I wasn't sure what was going on, if anything. I couldn't believe it when a call came in from Philips saying that a DVD player was on it's way. It did arrive and it works! I consider myself very fortunate, and have to give credit to Philips for coming through, Even though this was more of a Philips story, I think in the future that I’ll stay away from refurbished items at Overstock.com and do better research. I got real lucky and came out smelling like a rose on this deal.
Epilogue: Unfortunately, the "new" Philips DVP642 lasted about 8 months. I replaced it with an LG LDA511, a more costly, but much better unit."
"What a horrible experience. On 6/15/05 my wife ordered a watch from overstock.com - which was delivered on 6/21/05. The problem was they sent me the wrong item. The watch that was ordered was: Cerruti Half Moon Stainless Steel Men's Black Dial Chronograph Watch (as shown on the order page, invoice that came with the box & the web site). But they shipped the watch with a leather band & not a "Stainless Steel" band. I called them up right away & they said once they receive it they will ship out a replacement. I asked if they can expedite the shipping as it is was a mistake they made - they say "no, we are not allowed to do that. So i said ok - they finally confirmed that they received the package on 7/6/05 and in "my account" status on the page it showed it shipped. I thought great, but much to my surprise - the tracking number they gave me on the order status page - was not recognized by UPS. So i waited a few days, checked the tracking number again & still the same result. So i called up and spoke with a cs rep & then a supervisor only to be reassured that the item shipped and i will get it within 14 days from 7/6. I asked why the tracking number didn't work & they said they will contact the warehouse directly and someone will get back t me via email within 4 business day. 4 days later - no emails - sp i called back & i got the same answer "the item was shipped & you will get it within 14 days of the ship date". I also can them send in another request to the warehouse asking for a valid tracking number & they assured me i would get an answer within 4 business days. 4 days later - i called back only to hear the same thing. on & on it went with me starting to call them every day to check the status. finally 14 business after the order was placed i called up and asked where the item is. They told me they dont know but they will give me a refund - bec they dont have the watch in stock any more. I asked to be compensated - and all they offered me was a $15 coupon of future purchases. I am soo frustrated with overtock -- they strung me along for over a month - only to be told "sorry - its out of stock & we will credit your credit card".
Its merchants like that that scare people away from shopping online."
"Placed an order for a 4" high density foam pad for our bed. Good price. Site says takes 1-3 days to ship and up to 10-14 days for delivery. Received shipping notice 2 days later. Fed-X link showed it scheduled for delivery on July 23rd (Saturday). Nothing showed. We contacted Overstock CS by email only to learn they said no matter what Fed-X says it will take 2 weeks. then the Fed-X site took the 23rd delivery date off their page. Beware of the impression vs. reality. We will never shop with them again. A good price isn;t worth spit if you can't get the item as described in the time listed.

It's a joke isn;t it?
Also ordered a necklace/earring set. The earnings looked NOTHING like the pic on the web site and are being returned too.
Last time we buying anything (and this was our first) from OS."
"Shopped here on three seperate occasions. Once for a birthday present for my best friend, bought Jade Empire: LE for Xbox. I was charged $46, no tax, $1 shipping. The only catch is that they ship USPS, so it took two weeks to get here. Even then, I would've normally paid $54.11 for the non-LE Jade Empire. The second time, I bought a necklace, a 14kt white gold diamond necklace for $50. They advertise it's actual value is $200.00, but they know as well as I that that's BS. Doesn't matter though, took two weeks, girlfriend loves it, but I think it looked better in the picture. Then my last purchase just two weeks ago, Conkers: Live and Reloaded for Xbox. Again, took two weeks, went for $46, instead of $54.11 at a retail store. Just recieved it today.
If it wasn't for their slow shipping, I might shop here more often."
"misleading, I thought it was new, it was used. I thought it was a higher model, it wasn't.
Horrible. Kind of slow shipping too. Took 2 weeks.. "
"The previous month, I shopped online and ordered a Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee maker for $70.99. When I received the coffeemaker, I was shocked to discover that the company had sent me a reconditioned unit. Nowhere in their description of the coffeemaker was it clear that the product they were selling not new. When I returned to their website, the coffeemaker was still not advertised on their initial webpage as anything other than new. After clicking on the item and going to the product page, I notices a red and blue graphic or logo that said the product was reconditioned. This description was in no way apparent. I believe Overstock.com may intentionally obscure the fact that it is selling used merchandise. They charged me a $4.95 restocking fee (which I did not object to) and I had to pay quite a bit to return the coffeemaker to them because of UPS's surcharge for oversized boxes. They did credit me with a refund promptly. I was further dismayed to find the same NEW coffeemaker in my local Lowe's hardware store for just a few dollars more. Buyer Beware!"
"This company shipped me only 1 small digital camera. I had ordered 2(original invoice#17953156 purchased May 26, 2005) and they billed me for two. As of today, I am hearing that I may not get the other camera until After JULY 5th. They never called or emailed me about the problem, I have had to do all the work to track the package and then today I called and talked to them when the USPS website indicated that they had received the package and were waiting to send it on to me. I think this company dropped the ball, I should not have to be the one to continue to press them to get the product sent to me. They made a mistake in the first place and then are dragging their feet in shipping the remaining product. They should have UPS'd the shipment on a 3 day basis. Never again will I use this company."
"i ordered a logitech cordless mx dou keyboard from this company. the part was listed as refurbished, and i know that some things might be missing from the package, such as software, or the original box. HOWEVER, what i recieved was not only incomplete, but non functional. they failed to ship the ac adapter for this product, without that little piece, the product will not function. the sale was listed as not including batteries, i understood that, however an ac adapter is a big item to miss. kind of like selling a car without an engine. i contacted customer service to notify them of their error and to see if it was a simple mistake. the individual i reached was polite, and spoke with his supervisor, the supervisor informed him that "UNLESS THE PART IS EXPLICITLY LISTED AS BEING INCLUDED, IT IS NOT PART OF THE SALE" so i just wasted 39 dollars including shipping on a hightech paper weight."
"In the last 2 years I purchased many items from overstock.com and I am generally very pleased with the products as well as the customer service. Most recently I purchased a "blemished" Palmone PDA and a (hopefully) brand new Braun Electric Toothbrush. The 2 item arrived within 3-4 days and separately. The PDA looks brand new, workes great and has no blemish, it came in a plain box with no padding and as result the CD with the software was broken. However, I was able to download the programs from Palmone website and this was not a big deal. The toothbrush works well and I have no complains. In the past I had very little problems with the merchandise or the costumer service, people were very nice, attentive and willing to help solve the problems. The prices are great and if you are willing to put up with a little inconvenience you get a great deal. It is unrealistically to expect excellent quality and service at a bargain price, that is what I think! "
"I've been looking for one of these for several times. I did not notice intially that I was purchasing a "refurbished" Item. This came as a shock to me when I checked my order status.
I'm very pleased with the time it took to get the product, and the product itself is actually a great item. I just think they should make it more obvious that it is a refurbished item. and not brand new. Otherwise I was pleased"
"I placed an order for a Playstation 2 game (ChessMaster) on 29 April 05. My debit card was charged at that time. I later received an e-mail that my item was shipped (02 May 05). After waiting a few weeks (on or about the 15th of May) I called to check on the status of my order. Customer Service at Overstock.Com advised, the item was shipped via "Media Mail". They said, it could take up to 15 days to arrive. She asked me, to wait a few more days and if I didn't receive the item, I was to call back and initiate a trace. I called back on 24 May 05. I asked for the trace and customer service at Overstock.com told me, it would take 2-4 days before I would receive an e-mail with the results of the trace. I received an e-mail on 26 May 05 that had a different order number from the on I received on 02 May 05. I called Overstock.com again on 27 May 05 and asked for clarification. The woman I talked to advised, they sent a replacement and it will take 5 to 10 business days (from 25 May 05) to get to me. I advised, I did not ask for a replacement. I told them, I simply want my money back at this point. I escalated 4 times (all the way up to the corporate office). Along the way none of them would give me their last name or the name of their supervisor. I finally spoke with a Janet Dean (she did give me her name & extension). She refused to refund my money. She could not explain why I would get THIS shipment and not the first one. What bothers me the most is that they claimed, I am the one that requested a replacement. They also tried to bluff me by saying they record all of their calls. I asked them to pull the call up so that they would see, I never requested a replacement. Of course they couldn't find the call (even though they knew I had called on 24 May 05). Lucky for me this was a small dollar item. I will NEVER do business with Overstock.com again. They have shown me that they care nothing about customer satisfaction.

"Ordered a home theater system from Overstock on 4/30/05. I did not receive the package until 5/12/05 (two weeks!). The use the cheapest and slowest shipping method possible. Mine was sent DHL who delivers the package to a USPS hub who then delivers it to the local post office who then delivers to the destination. To many carrier changes for my liking. But I can say that I recieved the package.
It was "remanufactured" which means there are scratches all over it and the manual is a photocopy (who mistreated this thing!). I was disappointed that the remanufactured description didn't do the condition of the item justice.
But you get what you pay for. I got the best price on the system and the $2.95 shipping with no tax. So, if you want something that works and you don't mind waiting, then this is the place for you."
"Worst experience I've ever had with purchasing online. I first tried ordering from them and my order was cancelled 2 day later due to a glitch in their system, so I re-submitted my order.. When I received my package, I found that they sent me someone else's order. They would not send me my order until I sent the wrong one back and they received it. They have finially sent out a replacement order, but they've sent it the slowest and cheapest delivery method they have--USPS. You'd think after screwing up my order for the past 3 weeks they would try to expidite the situation. They obviously don't care about customer service. STAY AWAY!"
"Never received the camera or warranty I ordered. Dealing with Overstock.com's customer service was very trying to say the least. When they finally admitted I didn't get my order they issued a refund instead of replacing the merchandise as promised. At least I got a refund for the camera... I'm still fighting with them over a refund for the warranty."
