"Aside from the price, this has been among my worst online shopping experiences. I ordered 5 SCSI hard drives that, I thought, came with an adapter that would allow me to use them. The first four times I talked to customer service, I was told, "We'll get those out to you, we've sent an escalation over to the warehouse, wait a couple days." Today, just now, on my *fifth* call, I'm told that the adapters aren't included and there's "nothing [they] can do". Unbelievable. They just lost a customer over a $5 part."

"Bought an HP laptop, refurbished for $1200. Luckily I also bought the extended warrenty. Within 6 weeks the screen went out. I sent it in to be fixed. I got it back and it worked for about 20 minutes and went out again. I sent it back and this time it worked for ... oh, oops, straight out of the box it didn't work. I wrote Overstock and asked about a replacement. They wrote back, and this part sorta cracks me up now that it's been two years, they wrote me back that I got quiet a deal on that laptop and sent me my warrenty numbers. Which I obviously already had cause in the 4 months that I'd had the laptop, it's been in three times which was WHY I was writting them in the first place - as I stated in the letter to them. Oh, and then there was the little confusion about the "carry in" service plan that I'd bought being replaced with a "send it to the other coast" plan. Then, when I called to complain to the place that was suposed to be fixing it on the other coast, the guy tells me they now have it fixed and will be sending it back. And that I have a great voice. And a little "How You Doin" ala Joey from Friends. Then calls me at home to say the same thing the next day. And the next. Finally get my laptop back and it works for a month. The phone calls continue for several months. Long agonizing story short, I sent this in ever couple weeks the entire two years it was on warenty aside from a strange period in the middle were it worked fine for about 6 months, then the keys started falling off the keyboard. When the screen started going out again, I had it looked at by someone else who said it was a bad motherboard and I should insist on a refund because it would never work right. I called and was told to send it in again, was returned and didn't work again. Rinse and repeat until the two year warrenty ran out. The next day, the screen went out again. I will never buy another thing from Overstock or HP. It was in the shop a FULL quarter of the time I owned it. I know that most of the issue here is with the warrenty company they choose, but the fact remains that they sold it as refurbished when it was not. It did indeed have a bad motherboard."

"I am somewhat dissatisfied with my first purchase from overstock.com I was looking for a DVD for my dad. I found here for $10 less than anywhere else (it retails for $30.00) plus the shipping was cheap. I placed the order and then the problems started. Overstock.com sent me an email saying that my credit card was declined. I called my bank and they said that they declined the purchase becasue 'their merchant nunber did not match'. I tried to place the order again and this time it went though. They did ship promptly and gave me a USPS tracking number. My dad got the DVD aas promised, but it was BROKEN. I can not vouch for the condition of the case of the packing. I called customer service and they claim that they will email me a prepaid shipping label with tracking to return the item to them for a full refund. We will see if I do get a refund. 9Update: I finally got a full refund about 2 months after purchase, they took a very long time to email me the return label)

One thing I am very upset about is that a few days after placing the order, I started getting SPAM at the email I used. Now, I am pretty sure it came from them becasue I had put my home address and work number instead of my home number, and that showed up on the email (which never happened before) (update: this does not seem to keep ocurring, or my spam filter is catching everything).

If you do not mind taking a risk and do not mind getting spam, go ahead and take your chances, I would not buy from them again, specially after seeing some of the problems other people have been reporting

"I placed a pre-order for a DVD in September '04, for a title to be relased in November '04. December rolled around, and I hadn't received the item yet. An online chat with Customer Service proved useless - they could provdide no information on availability. (Keep in mind I had pre-ordered this two months prior to its release)

Shortly after my December chat, the item mysteriosuly changed from DVD to VHS format in my order history. Upon contacting their CSR once again, I was informed that the DVD was no longer carried. Fine - case closed. I've been screwed over by better companies.

Fast-foward to February, '05. My daily visit to DVDPriceSearch lists same DVD title, featured at Overstock.com once again - and at a price about $5 lower than average. Again, I place an order...against my better judgment, but at least I have the foresight to take screenshots of various stages of the order.

A week and a half later, the shipment arrives. I open it to find...a VHS. I contact them for an RMA number, which is issued several days later. The item is returned to them, and received by them on 2/26.

Two weeks later, and still no update. I contact their customer service, who tells me it can take "up to 14 business days" for them to react to the return shipment.

On the fifteenth business day, I contact them. They inform me that my "VHS tape" will ship shortly. I tell them this is not correct, I ordered a DVD. They point me to my order history, which once again reads "VHS". I volunteer to provide aforementioned screenshots, but they bounce my emails with attachments. (I've volunteereed screenshots during several correspondence, but they've consistently ignored that part of my email).

Today, I receive my second VHS tape from them. Upon contacting them for another RMA, I am told I will be required to pay a restocking fee.

I have now written what could be described as a rather "impolite" email to their latest in a long line of Customer Service Droids, informing them that I will let my credit card company handle this from here.

I'm now taking this personally - they've not heard the last of me.

"I ordered a room sized rug (42 pounds shipped) and am well pleased with the acceptable service and the quality of the product.
From the reviews I was a little hesitant about doing business with this store but I decided if my reasonable expectation was not to deal with customer service (nothing I'd have to return) I'd do it.
Also I used a ten percent off coupon and took advantage of the dollar shipping this month.., both incentives which are moneysaving and worthwhile.
Good deal, nice rug, nuff said.

"They lied numerous times and ripped me off $84. I bought a DVD recorder for a Christmas gift and placed the order on 12/22/04. I paid $40 for Christmas delivery, which is why I ordered it from them. The order didn't show up on their website until 12/24. I called them to inquire about the expedited shipping, and they assured me it would be here by Christmas and if by any chance it didn't make it, I would be refunded the $40.

Well, it didn't make it by Christmas, they didn't refund the shipping, and they charged me $44 restocking fee when I returned it, which they never told me about, and it was nver taken out of the box. I contacted them many, many times and I get the run around and lied to by everybody.

"I placed an order on overstock.com with my work shipping address. However, when I received the confirmation email, it had pulled PART of my home billing address as the shipping address (copied from paypal). I contacted the company that same day and explained what their system had done, and asked them to correct the address.

I was informed that they could not change an address once it was entered into their system, and they could not cancel it either. I asked to speak with a manager, and explained that the address that they were sending to would be invalid as it did not have my apartment number, but they were standing by their policy of not changing the address.

My only recouse was to file a complaint with paypal, and hope that the shippment dosn't get delivered to one of the 150 apartments here at my complex.

I am a veteran online buyer, and I was stunned by their lack of cooperation. I will not do business with this merchant again.

"I really dislike Overstock.com for their lack of Customer Service and the incredible amount of time it takes to process and ship your order. The absolute worst online reseller I have ever dealt with.

I purchased a BVG ski rack from this company and a week later my order is still in "processing" on their website. I called the CS and was told that the warehouse has not posted a shipping tracking number, but the order was shipped, because ALL of Overstock.com order are shipped 2 days after purchase. 3 days later I check my account again and my order is updated from "processing" to "accepted" and there is a UPS logo next to my order. When I click on that it just redirects me to the UPS shipment tracking page, but doesn't populate the tracking number. 4 days after that, (2 weeks from the time of purchase) there is now a DHL tracking number on the account, but it is invalid on the DHL site. I call CS, they tell me that the order has just been shipped, but all they can do for me is give me $10 store credit for my inconvenience. What good is $10 store credit to me if I'm never going to purchase anything from this website again?

I so regret not buying the same ski rack for $10 more somewhere else. Now that 2 weeks later my order was finally shipped, I'm wondering if I will actually get the ski rack before the ski season is over. I will never purchase from Overstock.com again.

"Have made 2 purchases from Overstock.com, one was an order for jewelry and a watch, which was delivered ok.

The other was for a camera and the associated extended warranty. I received the camera, but the extended warranty disappeared somewhere and the UPS tracking number was invalid. I waited past the holidays before remembering the warranty, and went to the online help chat to resolve the problem, which they did quickly (emailed me the warranty and info for it).

Will order from them again.

"Based on all the negative reviews here I was wary of ordering from Overstock.com, but PriceGrabber pointed me there for the lowest price on a music CD I was interested in, so I decided to risk it. Hey, for $2.40 (including shipping) for a CD, who wouldn't, right? ;) Received the CD in the mail 6 days later, intact, new condition. For the price it was a STEAL and I got my order in a reasonable amount of time so I was happy. But their Web site sucks, arcane (and inane) search function, and they need better account management. And forget about tracking your order, by the time they gave me the tracking number and it actually worked on usps.com (they generate tracking numbers before actually shipping orders!), it was only a few hours away from being delivered! So unless you're ordering something simple, ridiculously cheap, hard to screw up (like CDs and DVDs), AND you're not likely to want to return for whatever reason, I'd recommend avoiding this site."

"I have previously ordered from Overstock before without much problem. My main concerns are their lack of inventory on books & DVDs and that their shipping is VERY slow.

On my most recent order (3 books), I never received anything after 4 weeks. I contacted them through their live chat and their solution was to initiate a shipping track. Until that was complete I could not get any refund or replacement. Fine. So they initiate the track. After a few days, 1 book is unable to be located so they refund me. However, I do not receive notice about the other 2 books. I contact CS again and the person initates another track. A 2nd book is found and I receive credit. I receive no update on the 3rd book, so I contact CSR YET AGAIN. This time instead of a refund like I ask. They send a replacement. That was last week and I on my order page, the book is still listed as "In Process."

I'd much rather pay an extra $1 or $2 to actually get my books on time from Amazon. Sorry Overstock.

"Overstock is good for books.. everything else is pretty low quality. I've tried buying down comforters, spice, racks, kitchen gadgets, etc and everytime they are extremely low quality. So I'd say if you just want cheap books then Overstock is a good deal."

"I pre-order Gran Turismo 4 thinking that it would be shipped prior to the release date and get to me on the release date. Wrong. Overstock waited till the release date to start processing order and has still not shipped GT4. Coincidentally, I now have to wait for what I feel is the most anticipated game of 2005 (and 2004). I will never use Overstock.com ever again. When called to tell them I'd like to cancel, they refused saying that processing has already taken place. Put me on hold for 15+ minutes and I eventually hung up prior to talking to a supervisor. Terrible CS"
