"This is my first order from this online store, and I only checked the rating after I ordered. Seeing so many complains made me feel not good. However, I decided to give it a try since the deal is really good. To my surprise, I am very impressed by their service. My order was shipped out the second day(by UPS) and I recieved it as expected. They notified me through email about the order and about the shipping information after it's shipped. Everything worked very smoothly and the shipment is in very good condition, the product is exactly the same as advertized. No problem at all. I would strongly give it a A+ and would do future orders again."
"I purchased a "factory reconditioned" Harmony remote control, model SST-768 [SKU 945003]. It arrived missing both the setup CD and all documentation [which the outside of the box said should have been inside]. Given that this remote is totally unusable unless it connects to the internet via the setup CD, I find it hard to believe it was reconditioned by anyone, let alone by the "factory". So what are they selling?"
"I ordered a EZ Change artificial fiber optic christmas tree from the store and it was shipped quickly. I thought the changing discs did not make the shipment so I sent an email to customer service on Thursday evening (thanksgiving) I received a reply promptly Friday morning and had the issue resolved immediately. Great service product as described. Thanks Overstock."
"Although they were $40. cheaper than other etailers on the item I purchased, I do not like their practice of charging your credit card before the item ships. A week after I placed the order a call to one of their clueless service reps got a "I don't know why it has not shipped yet" response. I finally received the item. It was shipped directly from the manufacturer. Their customer service needs improvement."
"EXTREMELY DISHONEST COMPANY!
The follow-up
I was charged the restocking fee, even after I was told I would not be, plus I even had it in writing! I had asked the customer service rep to please send me an email stating that I would not be charged this fee, just in case this did happen. He did, but they still won't refund it. Spent lots of time on the phone with these people and got absolutely no where. All they kept saying was "it is the warehouse's decision". (the reps are robots and read from a script) Well, then, why wasn't I told that or why wasn't that in my email? They say "sorry you were misled". Misled? They even admit it! I could go on for pages about the ridiculous things these people said. All I can say to anyone I know or you reading this, trust these comments when we tell you to not order from this company!!
I will be opening a complaint with the BBB and any place else I can to file a formal complaint. I suggest others do the same. It has become far more than the money now, this company needs to be stopped.
I ordered a new camera and was sent a refurbished one (no where on the site did it say this was a refurbished camera). When I called customer service they showed me on the website that it says "factory refurbished" and would do nothing about it. I commented that this is what it says now, but what about when I ordered it? Price was quite high for a refurbished camera so I doubted that I missed this. Luckily I had printed out all my pages during the online purchase. No where on my printouts did it say refurbished! I called customer service back and after I told them I had all my printouts of the transactions and I would be happy to fax them, they gave me a full refund. I asked the service rep if this happens often, and she said "ocassionally". If I hadn't printed out my transaction, I would have had no way to prove that I ordered a NEW camera! And, like I said the price was too high for it to be a refurbished camera! They have me wondering how often they do this? Watch out for this company!!!!!"
"I was supposed to receive my package yesterday, but instead of the package, I got a slip from the post office saying that I owe postage on it.
Wait, what? Why do *I* owe anything?
Contacted customer service, and they told me to talk to the post office. I talked to the post office and they informed me that yes, I would have to pay that fee in order to pick up my package. Contacted customer service again, and they told me that my only option is store credit.
So they screwed something up, and the only thing they can do for me is give me store credit? I doubt I'll ever even shop there again, how is store credit going to help me?
I asked if I could just refuse the package, and they said I could, but that I may be charged a restocking fee. WHAT?!
Basically, my only options are to either take store credit I'm never going to use or to dispute any charge with my credit card company.
The people I spoke to were all very friendly, but their policies are atrocious. I understand that mistakes happen, but how they're handled can make or break a company. I feel that not offering a true refund on an issue that they are clearly responsible for is a horrible way to treat customers.
I will not be shopping at this store anymore, and will not be directing the 2500+ visitors a day from my website to their site for products in the future.
Overstock, you had a chance to gain lots of respect, but completely dropped the ball."
"They had the best price, but took an unacceptable amount of time to pack and ship my item. Ordered a watch on Thursday afternoon (11 Nov), and it's just now getting shipped on the following Wednesday (17 Nov). They had the lowest price by $20, but had I known it was going to take them a week to ship it, I would have gladly spent $20 more somewhere else, like at Newegg. In this day and age, that's a completely unacceptable amount of time to ship something.
Edit: Just wanted to say that if I had bothered to read the reviews here *before* shopping, I never would have spent my money at Overstock.com. So, all in all, I guess it's really my own fault."
"I ordered some rings from this online store for my wife (I regret not looking at the rating here first) thinking it was a great bargain. It said shipping would be 5-10 days. I figured it would get to me in about 5 days since it was a small item. I contacted them on the 6th day and they said for me to wait till the 10th day and that it was still on its way. Long and behold today is the 10th day and now they tell me there are some "complications" with my order. It would have been nice had they told me this when I first contacted them because now it'll take 10 more days for them to track the order and give me a refund. Worst online store ever, much worse than bad ebay sellers. Don't buy anything from them!
edit:
Well apparantly I just found out that they give you "in-store credit" when you use paypal. What kind of bullsh*t is that??? I can't believe they'd think customers would come back to their rip off website. I'm in the process of trying to get my money back into paypal. And I swear their online chat person is a bot. They ask the same questions, and give the same replies. BEWARE OF THIS SITE!"
"Very poor Customer Service!! I placed an order for Philips EXP431 Pocket MP3-CD Player from this site. But immediately after I placed this order one of my frined pointed out that this item doesn't uses regular size CDs it uses small cds. At this point I realized I made mistake and I immediately called Customer service of Overstock and requested them to cancel this order. I was told that it has been cancelled but still they shipped it to me. When I contacted them back they told me it was too late for them to cancel the order. Just wondering within 15 minutes of placing order it became too late or customer service made a mistake. Most pathetic thing is that I was told that this order is cancelled. Because of mistake made by customer service I ended up paying return shipping as well as 15% restocking fee. I will advise everyone not to trust Overstock customer service.
Thanks,
Pravin "
"I've ordered from overstock.com many times and have never had any problems. prices and shipping are always low.
once, i noticed that something i had recently purchased went down $.50 in cost and they gave me back $1.00 in credit.
overall, a great experience!"
"I am sadly disappointed with Overstock. I was one of their best advocates. They are a local company and they seemed to have some really great deals. I have ordered from them many times, joined Club O but have never had to deal with returns with this company. Pray hard that you never have to. You will be ok otherwise (I think but I am not so sure anymore).
I purchased a diamond ring from them. It looked like a great price but nothing incredible, about 35% off what I would pay from another e-tailer. It took about a week or so to ship, no tracking number available. The second we opened the box, the first thing you noticed were the incredibly yellow diamonds. It looked nothing like the picture. I got online, did the RMA and then called because I was not happy. They were pretty cool and said they would RUSH out the RMA. I didn't want a replacement since I felt it was just the way it was but they talked me into it, saying it would be quick and I would have no problems returning the 2nd one if it was the same. I agreed. Well, the rush didn't happen. It was almost 3 weeks to get the RMA (they always say it is coming from the warehouse, systems down, etc). I sent the ring back the next day. Since I am in UT, it got there quickly. Well, they did nothing. After a month of calls, broken promises (warehouse must do credits, they will call back in 2 days....yeah, whatever). OK, after much yelling and calling, hours spent, I finally was told I would get a credit in 14 days!!! Then, when I looked back, they took away an earlier credit for sales tax so I am out $25. It is illegal not to refund sales tax but they have a policy they will say to you of not returning sales tax. I would call and complain but I seriously am worried they will find some way to take away the credit I hopefully will be seeing in 14 days (yeah, ridiculous, nice of them to hold onto almost $500 of money they are not entitled to).
Read their return policy (I didn't before) and you will question your choice to shop from them based on that fact alone. Believe these reviews. We need to stop ordering from businesses like this.
I spend about $500/month online buying things, sometimes quite a bit more. I will not give one more penny to these people. They have literally stolen enough money from me. I am pretty sad writing this....I used to love perusing their website and buying from them.
I think I got off pretty lucky though. It could have been so much worse and it still may be because I don't have the credit yet and they could always find a way to mess that up. It is a disgrace they come from UT but at least they are an equal opportunity thief. :)"
"Readers: Beware...research before you buy.
Understand your Interstate commerce rights...Each state has rules set for returns...RE: the state I'm in, (not the mental one after all of this...smiles)has a 30 Day return policy that must be met. If you try to claim a return after that time...you will be out of luck...unless the product has caused personal harm or damage...then it can go to litigation...
Since the products were sold to a customer in a state other than theirs...they have to abide by those rules...Stating a 20 day return policy is not wrong...but it's not binding according to your states commerce rights...
Sad to say, I used both resellerratings.com to search for the best price, and positive feedback from another Business partner as my basis for purchasing from Overstock.com. I should have done more homework investigating them first. So I'm the one to blame for the purchase.
Also, I didn't buy from a certified Intel dealer. (oops, broke my own rule).
That doesn't get Overstock.com off the hook for bad business practices though. I can prove intent, and will.
These Intel motherboards BOXD875PBZLK (Intel Pentium 4 Socket 478 ATX Motherboard 800MHz) (2 in quantity) do not boot up. One previous order #11204795, same product and same quantity, do not boot up either. They were purchased on 10/9/2004 from Overstock.com, and advertised as new, not RMA's, or reconditioned.
I didn't realize the order from the 9th of October was bad unitl last week when I was ready to put my project together. That order was shipped from CA. The last order, for the same parts, was shipped from IL. They do not seem to keep all of their stock in the same place.
The posted ad said they were part # BOXD875PBZLK, which is an INTEL boxed motherboard. But what I got was 4 motherboards in static bags in "non retail" "non Intel" boxes. Only two of the boxes had any type of markings on them concerning the contents. All four will not work with any new parts (or old parts either). They will not boot up, no boot up screen to access the BIOS.
I have two retail boxed units, Brand new, purchased from PROVANTAGE.com, and another from Equus in Denver, the same products, that all of those new and correct parts work on. (these are for a rack mount server application with hot swap
SATA bays).
I also called INTEL and asked about this. They said they are most likely RMA returns and were never returned to Intel for repair. They weren't listed with INTEL as returned Items. So they aren't factory reconditioned.
This is for a federally funded medical center for the Ft Mojave Indian Tribe.
I have contacted Overstock.com, but only recieved an email reply saying they were going to have their tech support call, in which they didn't.
So far, no RMA, and no other response.
The first two boards are out of the RMA's date. My $ loss. But not a loss at small claims court.
I will not purchase from them again and will tell others not to also.
Update: Seems if you get your banker on the line with you as a witness to their promises to refund you the full amount, you also get to tech support much more quickly. This AM I spent 1 hour explaining the situation with some Rep from Overstock who said the product is no longer in stock. Interesting though, it was available earlier in the morning. They didn't refute that the part # was INTEL's # intended for an INTEL Boxed retail unit, they had listed.
I still will not get a refund for at least 30 days, but I filed a complaint with my bank which will now guarantee a full refund under a dispute, and Overstock heard it first hand, and there will be no 15% restocking fee, via a bank witness.
I'm still untrusting. Mainly because these people have a tendency to move on to other jobs, so you never have the same person handling the RMA. Too much get's lost in the overall picture of things.
Also, Overstock's lack of willingness to be fair in posting positive reports along with negative reports on their own site either means the marketing department is hiding info from their investors who probably are oblivious to integrity issues, or want to be that way, and only want to see positive results and cool TV ad campaigns.
If this company ends up with a class action suite, I'm sure they will love all of the positive feedback from FOX NEWS and CNN.
Do your homework guys, the Internet has turned out not to be such a nice place after all.
We need the Internet bulldogs to stay awake to keep the enterprise as clean and stable as possible...
3rd update...
Only to be fair...Overstock did refund both orders of bad Intel motherboards...and they refunded the full amount...It took about eight days from the time I returned the items to see a refund...but all of this took some kicking and screaming...with by banker on the phone with me...thus the proper refund took place...
Happy Holiday Seasons to all!!

"My first purchase from Overstock.
They had the lowest current price on the item I was looking to buy that included shipping, discounts, and no tax....
All in all, it was a good experience. The order confirmation was followed up by timely emails notifying me of my purchase status along with tracking information and it took eight (8) calendar days to arrive at my house. Packaging was sufficient...
Will look to them for further purchases..."
"I purchased 3 items from Overstock.com. I recieved them in a fair amount of time. However, the product was of slightly lesser quality than described. For example, I ordered a 100% Hungarian white goose down comforter. The label said, "Minimum 75% white goose down." Obviously, this is not 100% down and nowhere on the tag does it say Hungarian, so I dont know if it is Hungarian or not. I am a little dissatisfied, but not enough to bother to return the product.
Also, don't believe all the comments. I tried to post comments for each order I had. Because they were slightly negative, they were not posted. Overstock only posts the 4 or 5 star positive comments. Read the fine print and it will say, "Selected customer reviews." In honesty, it should read "Biased customer reviews." Beware. "
"This compay's customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with. They continually send emails stating that prepaid return labels will be sent in 2 to 4 business days - but they never appear.
I have reported they questionable practices to my state's Cosummer Advocte and the BBB. I really question this company's honesty. I will never deal with this outfit again. I recommend readers follow my example."
