"Overstock.com was the only place I could find the CD mini-system I wanted. Shipping was a little slow, but it arrived safely and worked fine. My experience with Overstock.com was good."
"Absolutely terrible. Cheapo items worse than described, they sent the wrong size pants and then charged me %15 restocking fee AND deducted shipping when I sent them back! Neither of which was mentioned by the man on the phone who told me to do so. Numerous emails/phone calls did nothing; got a different person every time who would not follow up on my return. Stay away!"
"This company is an absolute disgrace and does not deserve to do business. My credit card was billed immediately- all that despite the fact that the items haven't been shipped out yet(contrary to their 1-2 day shipping guarantee). Because the billing and shipping addresses are different, I had to go thru" a series of questions that smacked of Inquisitions to get my order going. Customer service is staffed by kids who aren't either professional or polite. If you want to return an item(chances are it's garbage), you'll have to pay a hefty 15% restocking fee on electronics. I will have a billing dispute on this order initiated with my credit card company because of their horrible service. Do yourself a favor, pay extra and do business with a reputable vendor. This one certainly isn't"
"Worst Business Ever! I had to call 5 times to actually talk to a supervisor after getting lied to and hung up on multiple times. Do not ever buy from this company."
"I bought a product from this site the beginning of September. It's now almost November and I still do not have my product. I have talked to nearly a dozen Overstock employees and none have been even slightly helpful. I just received an email from them this morning which states they have no intention of refunding my money and are completely ignoring my requests for a refund. This item was supposed to be a birthday present - will never do business with them again."
"I ordered books from Overstock as they advertise prices lower than Amazon. I received an email that the order was shipped on Sep 22. Today is Oct 21 and have so far exchanged four emails with them and still no books. The latest excuse is that they have to wait for USPS to trace the shipment, after which they will send a replacement in 5-10 business days."
"Ordered a book and Susan Boyle CD. Both arrived within 5 days of ordering. Received excellent Service each time I purchased from overstock."
"I will never order from this merchant again. Numerous problems with broken merchandise, delays, and false advertising on 3 orders. You say why did I not stop after one order and you are right. Don't make my mistake."
"I have had fairly good luck with Overstock.com until now. I purchased a Logitech MX-700 Mouse. This item should have NEVER been shipped. The connect button was completely missing and the mouse would not even power up. Obviously no one cared enough to even inspect this peice of litter before they sent it to me. Now I face the task of the RMA crap and a 15% restocking fee, if I can meet their RULES. For a few bucks they have lost me and the 15 people I influence on electronics. Goodbye Overstock!"
"I received goods damaged prior to shipment. I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with Overstock.com's very consumer-unfriendly return policies. Repeated calls and repeated e-mails have failed to produced a repeatedly promised return label for the damaged goods.
Overstock.com requires notification within 20 days of their alleged shipment date and further requires that returns actually reach them within 30 days of their alleged shipment date.
I first began doing business with Overstock.com in August 2003, having placed over 20 orders with them between then and now. This is the first time that I have received damaged goods and the first time that I have had to return an item to them. As such, this is my first contact with Overstock.com's extremely poor, disappointing, belligerent and hard-nosed return policies and personnel. The several Overstock.com representatives with whom I have spoken have been equally inflexible and adamant albeit "sorry", referring to Overstock.com's "policies". They refuse to ship a replacement item before receipt of a return.
In stark contrast, Sears has earned my business and trust over many years. They almost always get it right the first time. When needed, their consistently friendly, efficient and professional customer service personnel quickly make things "right". They have learned the importance of good customer relations and good will.
Overstock.com likes to sell but stumples badly over post-sales service. Their policies clearly discourage returns, including returns of goods damaged before shipment.
Overstock.com's extremely lamentable and sorry customer service will result in my doing business elsewhere. Overstock.com does not deserve my business or yours."
"My worst Internet purchase so far. I bought Fuji Digital Camera. The Overstock's web site does not describe clear the contents of the package, some items were missing. Customer service did not take complaint for missing items."
"Website has a 15% restocking fee for "electronics and computers" - but fails to make this clear until and unless you want to initiate a return. With so many other websites out there that have no restocking fee and better overall ratings, there is no reason for me to ever order from this site again. Essentially, they have lost all my future business for $18."
"As it stands now, this once happy and satisfied long time customer is soured on Overstock and is not likely to shop again, even if this problem is fixed.
A timeline of my ordeal: In the first week of August, I moved from Vacaville, Ca., to Fremont, Ca.
On September first, I ordered a toaster oven (and a pickle jar). Before doing so, I put my new address in my account (I changed my paypal address previously).
When I went into my account after not seeing any sign of my packages, I discovered that although my new address in Fremont appeared as a billing address, my packages had been shipped to my previous address in Vacaville.
I called Overstock immediately to request this problem be fixed. After many days of errors (partial credits, etc.), the amount of my purchase was credited to my Paypal account- more than two weeks after the initial order.
I contacted Overstock and was assured that the warehouse would be made aware of my address change. Once again, I made certain that both my Overstock and Paypal accounts reflected my current address, and re-ordered my toaster.
When I entered my account to track my package, I noticed that although my billing address reflected the correct address, the shipping address again did not. There was no tracking number, and the package did not appear to have shipped yet. I called the 800 number immediately and requested that the order be stopped and shipped to the correct address. I was assured this would be done.
Instead, a couple of days later, I received a return label link via email- to return a broken item! Again I called the 800 number, and was told they had no information, and that I would be contacted by a supervisor within two to four days.
I received no contact, and called again. (October first) The gentleman I spoke to assured me that if I placed a new order with him, I would be credited for the previous, incorrect order before Thursday, October seventh. (This is after he told me there would be no charge for the re-order. What he meant to say was, there would be 'no charge' after the refund was received. As there was nothing I could do to reverse the norder, I decided to trust him. Bad idea.)
I was again assured by this gentleman that the warehouse would be notified of the address change before shipment, and promised expedited shipping. When I checked my account the next morning, the shipping address was again listed as my previous address.
At this time, it has been four and a half weeks since I originally ordered my toaster. I have paid $185.88 and have yet to receive a toaster. I have spent literally hours on the telephone and composing emails. I have been given conflicting information by different CS people. The address of the company and any contact information for supervisors or anyone else in the company is being withheld as 'confidential.'
After an HOUR on the phone today, during which time I was told that I could not speak to any supervisors or to anyone in the warehouse, I was told that my refund would be expedited (Originally, I was told today that contrary to what I was told last night, I must wait two weeks for them to receive BOTH mis-shipped toasters back before I receive any credits. Only after much strenuous complaining did they promise to expedite the refund), and that I should receive both the refund and a phone call from the supervisor by Monday, October fourth. Given my past experiences, I'm not expecting either.

"My email to overstock.com
Description: I have a serious problem with order 10531209 which I just experienced. Originally when I had placed this order over 2 months ago, I was under the impression that I would get the item within a reasonable timeframe(a few days). I actually decided after taking (Thurs/Friday) to ship the item that it was time to cancel the order and just purchase the item locally from a vendor near my home. When I called to cancel the order I was told the item was already put into the warehouse and could not be cancelled. After being somewhat agitated, I decided, fine, I'll just return it when the item gets here. I call Overstock to get the item returned, I'm told that I have two options, 'return to sender' or an actual return(which sounded like it took more time and energy). I simply marked return to sender on the package and dropped it back in the mail. When calling today, I find that I'm being charged a restocking fee. If I am charged this fee, Overstock.com just lost all of my future business, as well as any good reputation I did have for you. If this return was simply because I decided I did not want the item, I'd be happy to pay any restocking fee. In this case, I'm more than irritated in this situation. Please rectify this issue and I'll gladly continue using you in the future.
Their reply....
Dear Devon,
Thank you for contacting us regarding the restocking fee. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you with this concern. I am sorry that the answers to your questions were not available on our site.
Sorry that is our procedure is to charge restocking fees when the customer refuses the package. If you would have called and set up the return and explained the situation then we probably could have waived the restocking fee. We don't want to lose you as a customer but we do have to follow procedures. If you have anymore questions email us back and we will be glad to assist you.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance for this, or any other issue. I hope you will visit us again soon for great savings on name-brand products.
Sincerely,
Overstock.com
My view - I will never use this company again, the fact that it was their F@##@$ up and they won't refund my 5 dollars, means I'll take my business elsewhere. I sent them one last terse email, if they refund my money, I will be taking down this claim, but as it stands right now, my odds are very low! :("
"Ordered a book and it arrived very quickly! I was quite pleased as I read other reviews about Overstock.com and they seemed mixed. I gave them a shot and it worked out quite well! I would do business with them again."
