"When my driver's side exterior door handle broke I went to our local body shop for a repair quote.
They gave me a range of $450 - $500.
Evidently a broken driver's side exterior door handle is a common issue, so there are a number of You tube videos explaining how to make the repair.
I purchased the new handle from parts geek, and a trim tool removal set from Amazon ($8) and took on the project.
The repair took longer than anticipated due to a few challenges. One was a very stubborn trim clip that eventually broke.
That lead to having to go to a local auto parts store to seek out a replacement. 3 stores later I finally found one that would work.
I also did not have a 10mm nut driver, which required a typical DIYer trip to HD for the tool.
Removed the first nut no problem, only to find out that the last two were too deep into the door to reach with the nut driver I purchased, so it was back to HD to purchase a 6" extension rod for my ratchet set.
This was not a very difficult repair and would have gone much smoother had I taken the time to be sure I had the right tools before I started. I also recommend purchasing a few replacement clips before you start the job. They are a dollar or two, and well worth having on hand should you need them.
Bottom line, even with the purchase of the new tools I saved $400+ doing this relatively simple repair on my own.
