"The first time I ever went to Plato’s, it was with my cousin and we had BAGS upon BAGS of clothing. We waited half of the afternoon to come back and find out they didn’t really want anything. Waste of time. And then I bought a dress from Charming Charlie’s. SUPER CUTE!! It was for a wedding I was suppose to go to, but then I found out I had to work so I decided to take it to Plato’s since it was past the 30 day return limit. I took it in and they took one look at it and told me it was “out of style” and “would be way too hard to sell.” This was a $100 dress "
"I know that I used things but I do not think it's fair to buy some shoes for $ 40 and two days later they broke and can not be returned and with bad attitude bad customer service"
"I brought in 4 bags that were full of good quality items, some even name brand. They only bought 7 items from me, for $17 and tried to tell me that the rest is too "worn" for them. I waited 2 hours for that. I didn't pitch a fit, but now that I've had time to think of it that was not a good deal for the most expensive items I had then I had to carry all 4 huge ripped bags awkwardly back to my car without an explanation as to what they meant by too used. The more worn items had been donated to Goodwill. I guess I'll try a different place. I highly suggest everyone avoids this business, it's not worth losing worthy items and time for a dollar or two."
"Great service and selection! Will be back again soon! "
"Two ladies working at the new north oak location across from planet fitness were not customer focused at all. Seemed more interested in talking with each others personal life then helping me get a fitting room. Another thing I noticed was that they were playing Christian gospel music on Pandora throughout the store. Made me feel SUPER uncomfortable after listening to it for thirty minutes that I finally left. Everyone has their views and beliefs and I completely respect that but please respect mine as well. I had no idea this was a Christian establishment? "
"So I went into Plato's Closet had brand new pair of boots they took one and didn't take the other trying to say my boots were dirty when I only wore them once the only reason I brought them to the store is because my calves are too small. So they took one of my boots and gave me $9 I paid $79 for those boots. And all their stuff in there is dirty and look like Salvation Army merchandise but they wouldn't take my boots lmbo. Lesson learned I would never go back there to sell anything"
"Wish I could put a 0 star. They completely stole from me. And when I went back a week later they said someone impersonated me when they picked up the money they owed me. Then they said they’d call after they looked at the camera footage and still never heard back from them. I left 3 garbage bags and got nothing from it. Don’t ever go here. "
"Had me wait 26 mins for 6 dollars . Most of everything in my bag was name brand they didn’t take it . I’m saying like good condition . Nike , pink , forever 21 , etc etc .. while I’m looking through the store there’s clothes with stains and not name brand . So it don’t make sense why they didn’t take mine ? "
"I have sold there me and my now 21 year old daughter on several occasions. For the most part I mostly had an ok experience. Sometimes they will low ball you. On two occasions we got more than we expected. Anyway I went to the location in Avon, Indiana. I had brand new clothes 10 in all ,brand new, tags with receipts. These items belonged to my daughter away at college ISU not with me her name on receipts. So clerk informed me that I had different addresses, different phone numbers in their system talking loud for others to hear. Also she said bring your daughter with you to add further insult.I had my drivers license on my person. I am not stealing. So what's the matter? I felt disrespected and shamed. HOW DARE I HAVE DIFFERENT PHONE NUMBERS. My point is they should not make people feel like they are thieves. I will never give them my business again, just because of this one person. "
"I took 13 pairs of shoes to Plato's Closet and they tried to play me! My shoes were Calvin Klein,
Steve Maddenand Nina, all brand names they said my shoes were too professional. What a Joke! While I was waiting for them to determine if they can use any of my things I picked out some items to purchase . I guess you know I left the items on the counter. Why should I buy from them when they did not buy ONE pair of my shoes. I have heard so many negative reviews about Plato's I would go to Marshalls or TJ MAXX,, pay the extra dollars before I would ever go there. They are shady."
"I will NEVER be going back to Platos closet. Ever. I don't know how the other ones are but the one in Reading, Pa has the WORST customer service. Not to mention I took clothes there that have never been worn, were bought within the past year, and are from American Eagle, charolette Russe, Hollister, or forever 21, etc. and they didn't take even one thing...they then gave me a card that has the things they're looking for on it, so I came back with some stuff from the list they gave me and they still took nothing...they'll also say they can't take it because it's an "older style" or it's "worn" but I know for a fact the stuff I took was either never worn or worn once or twice. I don't know if they're just lazy and don't feel like taking the time to actually look through the clothes or what but I will never be going there again. One time I sold a pair of timbs there that I wore once and they looked brand new, they gave me $10 for them...Long story short it is frustrating even wasting your time, you'd be better off selling the things yourself or giving them to goodwill! "
"I went in just now to sell been selling for a while and the little skinny Indian looking girl is like you can't sell since your items have been inconsistent. Then she tried to say I'm not going to take them since some of my items had tags meanwhile you can't assume someone is bringing stolen items I guess Kuz I'm black she think that you can only have worn out bummy items well I purchased my items from a different store and state yes some have tags don't have the receipt planned in wearing them however I need the funds for expenses wit my kids but I won't be going back to the one in Greenville NC since they are rude and they are lucky I didn't get disrespectful wit her **** as well"
"I would not recommend this place. If you have clothing older than 6 months don't bother. If you own clothing from a store that is no longer in business. For example, The Limited, don't bother. Jeans can't be washed out, or basically washed. I would say if your clothing isn't brand new, don't bother. "
"It is really sad that I am making this review right now. I used to LOVE Plato's Closet North, would come in very frequently, to the point where they knew my name, and spend hundreds of dollars here. Now, or should I say since Jessica left, it seems like this location has continued to go downhill. Their posts on Instagram and Facebook with new featured and designer items were one of the greatest part of Plato's closet. Since hiring others, who definitely don't have their stuff together, this feature is a complete joke. You use to be able to call as soon as the items posted to put them on hold. Now if you try, these items have been sold HOURS before. Bait and switch if you ask me, especially to those who haven't used this method before. If I put a higher priced item on hold you usually end up making twice as much because now I am in the store to buy the item I am happy about and in turn looking for more. Well Plato's Closet, you ruined this feature. You may want to ask Clothes Mentor how they were able to keep it together and constantly communicate about items. Your staff also needs some fine tuning. They are all very immature, rude, and ignorant, which could be why they don't understand how to run the business while the manager isn't there; bless her soul but this location needs some help. "
"I recently visited the platos closet location in Wichita, KS. This was not my first time in the store, however, it most likely will be the last. While I was waiting in line to sell my clothes there was a lady in front of me trying to sell a couple pairs of jeans. The employee glanced at the jeans and said yeah we probably won't be buying these, the girl asked why? She was then told, "well, we are looking for new styles and trendy clothes, and these......just aren't trendy and cute." Not only was the seller in shock but I was as well. The employee was very rude and didn't care about the sellers feelings. The girl selling told the employee that they were all designer jeans and I could also tell they were in great quality (I would buy) and the employee told her that that didn't matter because it still did not make the jeans trendy. The seller then left the store and the employee proceeded to wait to help me until she finished scowling at the seller until she was out the door. Before I even started to sell my clothes I knew this would be an unpleasant situation because of the employee's attitude towards the other girl that now went onto me. I was given a piece of paper to fill out and then once I finished filling out the paper I looked around to see who to give it to, but no one was interested in helping me anymore. I asked to whoever could hear and said, "Do I just leave this paper here?" Someone eventually told me yes and I said I would be back later to pick up my clothes because I had to go to work. The lady from earlier (the one who was rude to to the customer before me) then proceeded to get angry with me and told me I could not leave. She told me I had to wait in the store for my items to be bought. I told her I had to go to work and she proceeded to get angrier with me and asked me where I worked, to see how long it would take me to get there, because she was more concerned with making a sale then about me having to get to my job.Since the lady would not buy my clothes unless I waited in the store I told her okay, I will take my clothes back then and go to work. As soon as I said this she decided to "make an exception" and take a look at my clothes and everything would be ready when I came back to the store. I was very frustrated because two nights before this I tried to sell my clothes, but it was too late in the evening for them to keep buying clothes, which is very understandable. Then the next night before work I tried to drop off my clothes but I didnt get off work until after Plato's closet would be closed and they said I couldn't leave my clothes there overnight. So this was the third day in a row I tried to sell my clothes to Plato's closet and they were about to not let me because I had to leave the store and come back later, which I have done before. When I returned to Plato's closet after work the lady that I had spoken with earlier was no longer working but a different lady, who was much nicer, was there. She told me that, as my clothes sit in a pile untouched, none of my clothes would be bought today. I was in shock because I knew I had some clothes in the pile that Plato's Closet would be interested in, such as Nike athletic shorts, American Eagle jean shorts and tank tops, and more items like this. I then asked the employee if this could've happened because the girl working before her was so rude and snippy to me. This woman was so nice to me that she offered to go back through my clothes and see if something could've been missed. She then told me that she would be buying 9 items from me, so this means not one or two items were missed and not purchased, 9 were! I believe that the girl who I spoke to before and gave my clothes to was too "upset" or "angry" to even look at my clothes because I would not do as she said and stay in the store. I was very disappointed in this experience and will not be returning to a place where I do not get equal treatment, or have to prove where I work so that I can stay in the store.
