"PowerNotebooks is the best PC builder I've dealt with in the fifteen years I've been building and buying computers. I bought an ultra high-end, behemoth of a desktop replacement machine for digital music production. PowerNotebooks' prices are within 10 or 20 dollars of everybody else online right now, so I gave them a three-star rating for cost - the laptop was very pricey but anyone trying to build the machine I wanted is going to pay a lot, and the overall cost was at the lowest tier of what is currently available from Internet boutique builders... so I chose "moderately priced."
Ultimately I went with PowerNotebooks because they are a highly ethical, driven, tech-savvy, customer-service oriented company. I might have saved a few bucks (and literally, just a few) going with someone else but this company has a stellar, unblemished reputation for customer service and that has been where I've suffered with other companies trying to undercut their competition... the first thing to go with a high-end, low-cost machine is customer service and technical knowledge. If you are gonna drop 4 grand on a PC, make sure the company supplying it cares about their customers and understands your intended application for the computer. In my case, PowerNotebooks has proven to be just that - friendly, accessible experts.
Also, PowerNotebooks offered better processor and memory options for my particular machine than I could find direct from the manufacturer (Sager) or other competing websites. That helped cinch the deal.
Based on reviews I read here and at other sites, I requested Donald be my sales rep and this guy is awesome. He knows his stuff, you could be a complete newb or a silicon wizard and he can meet you at your level and help you understand your options and what might suit you best. We spent three hours on the phone over the span of two days discussing my build, and I ended up making some wise changes based on Donald's advice. Consequently, the PC I received is even better than I could have anticipated. I'm grateful for the attention and the detailed explanations from Donald. I knew exactly how my laptop would work in my intended environ, from multi-display setups to memory and hard disk performance, to future upgrade possibilities (yes, even in a laptop) well before the work order had even hit the shop floor. These guys really know their PC's but make it dead easy to grasp the implications of the technology and how your intended usage might fit into the picture. The bleeding-edge of what is presently possible was no mystery to Donald.
The machine was actually assembled by Sager and I placed my order right after the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year... so it took about a month (29 days exactly) to receive the laptop from beginning to end. However, the Chinese holiday wasn't PowerNotebooks's fault, just coincidentally poor timing on my part, every country has their big annual national events to celebrate and relax. :) And ultimately it was no big deal, really, as I had a lot of prep work to do ahead of time with rebuilding my studio from scratch, so there was no rush. It was actually kind of nice to have a little breathing room to get everything ready. While assembly took longer as a result of the Chinese holiday, as apparently some of the parts I ordered weren't standard-stocking items, once PowerNotebooks received the finished machine in Reno, I had it three days later in LA (arrived at PowerNotebooks on Friday the 8th, shipped Monday the 11th, arrived Wednesday the 13th). The PC was well-packaged and before I even opened the box I had no doubt everything was safe inside.
After the sale, Donald pointed me to a couple of sites to help me find a bag for this massive laptop (17" x 11.5" x 2.5"... truly enormous) as I ordered no case of any sort with this laptop and a bag big enough to fit it is kind of hard to find. With his help, I ordered one and it'll arrive this week. Up to this point, I have been totally vindicated in my decision to go with PowerNotebooks. I am a demanding user who requires the pinnacle of computing technology for my work, and people who understand what I need and can help me make better decisions and then provide support and advice as I continue to work with the technology down the line. Donald and company have given me all this and more.
In fact, my sister will be ordering a much smaller, more battery-friendly 11" laptop from PowerNotebooks for her upcoming move to Peru, based solely on my experience. For about $1300, she is getting a killer machine the store brand guys could never touch. I ordered a laptop that I thought had the specs that I wanted, but instead of just taking the order, waiting two weeks and then sending it to me, they went above and beyond.
First I get a phone call to make sure that it was me that placed such a large order, then, with my permission, three-way called my bank so I could verify with them that I am who I said I am and not some identity thief using my ID. I really appreciated that, because with so much identity theft going on, what if someone else had placed the order at my expense? With this company, they wouldn't have gotten away with it.
A little later I spoke with Donald, the owner of the company (again... who does that? How many company presidents do you know that personally take care of the customers??), who wanted to verify that I was getting the best laptop for my needs. As it turned out, I wasn't. The laptop I had ordered would have been a lot of money spent for something that fell short of what I needed, and I would have been very disappointed. So he actually walked me through each part of the laptop until it would definitely do what I needed it to do, for very close to the same price as the original one, and I got it in only a week. Now I will not have to buy another laptop for a good many years, because even as technology advances, these PowerPro laptops are built to last, and are fully upgradeable.
I had been going back and forth between PowerNotebooks and another highly recommended company... and for me, being a Christian, the deciding factor was that they are bold about serving Christ as well as serving their customers. If they are going to go out on a limb in this day and age and be bold for Christ, then they do business with integrity and represent Him well.
I customized the I 9:7 (Isaiah 9:7), and this is the first laptop I have ever had that has not gotten hot... in fact, it has not even gotten even slightly warm, thanks to the IC Diamond Thermal Compound. It does everything I want it to with amazing speed and I could not ask for better. It even runs the Sims 3, with all expansion pack and stuff packs, 'without blinking an eye' so to speak (I had the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics card put in), while my browser is running with 20 tabs open in it.

"I have had horrible service with this site. I finished building a laptop on their site and checked out using my credit card. I received an instant reply from a sales rep who confirmed everything and completed the transaction. That was almost a month ago and I still have not received any notification if my system has been built or is even close to being shipped. "I was looking to get an Alienware M18x before the holidays with the new Nvidia 680 SLI Dual Video Cards. But Alienware stopped offering the laptops the the Nvidia Video Cards. I looked all over the web and found Powernotebooks. I went into the sight and configured a brand new Alienware M18x with, the dual SLI 680 video cards. I would check periodically on Alienware's sight and they weren't even offering the Nvidia graphic cards. I do admit it took some time, but Powernotebooks was spot on. They give you a wider selection of components to configure as well.
