"I checked out a lot of different websites to buy a new gaming laptop before coming to Power Notebooks. I originally was going to go with xoticpc.com, but after seeing a lot of people having bad experiences with them, I decided against it.
I then came to Reseller Ratings, and noticed that Power Notebooks had a near perfect score, with only 10 1 star reviews. So, after seeing that, and the fact that they had the lowest price out of any website I visited, I went with them.
I knew right away I made the right choice. When I was customizing my computer, I had a question about their "3% cash discount", and the website said to give them a call if I had a question. So I did, fully expecting to get a machine in the beginning, like almost all companies do now. I was floored when, within two rings, I had someone on the other end asking "How can I help you?". I said "you aren't a machine?", and he said "No sir." No machines, no dialing any numbers to get to a department, just instant access to a REAL person.
I placed my order last night, and their website was having trouble processing my order. I gave them a call again and talked with a man named Abe. He took me step-by-step through the computer I wanted, and made sure that I had everything I asked for.
I'll post an update once I actually receive my new computer, but so far I am very pleased with the way Power Notebooks handles their customer service, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new computer. A++
UPDATE (10/16/12): I just called Power Notebooks to check on the status of my order since they told me when I ordered that it would be ready to ship on Monday 10/15. I was told that it is now ready to ship today 10/16 and I should get an e-mail with my tracking number soon. Very accurate with their shipping estimate =).
UPDATE (10/17/12): I have my tracking number now. UPS says it should be here by next Wednesday (10/24). More later.
UPDATE (10/24/12): YAY IT'S HERE! I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet, as I had it delivered to where I work. I'll let you guys know in a couple of hours how my tests go. I did unpack it at work though, and I am very happy with the way it was packaged, absolutely nothing was rattling around. It came doubled boxed for added protection as well.
UPDATE (10/25/12): Got to try out a few things last night. A few things:
1) The S-Bar that comes with the laptop is crap (it's an Object Dock like program at the top of the desktop screen). I'd imagine it works like Object Dock, where you can put desktop shortcuts onto it so that your desktop screen is cleaner. It has a slot for "Programs", so I thought this was the case. However, there is absolutely NO documentation anywhere from MSI (I have a PowerPro notebook but it's an MSI reshell) saying how to actually use it, and you can't just drag the shortcuts onto it like you can with Object Dock. I called Power Notebooks support, and the gentleman I talked to couldn't figure it out either. He told me how to set the P1 key (which is a quick launch button on the laptop, which is useful), but nothing about how to actually get the S-Bar thing to work. So, I uninstalled it and got Object Dock. I can't really fault Power Notebooks for that, since it was an MSI program, but I would have thought that if a program comes pre-installed on a new PowerPro laptop that the tech support people would know how to use it. And the gentleman I talked to clearly did not.
2) Everything else seems to be running great so far, except that Guild Wars 2 cannot recognize my 680M card, so it sets the graphics really low. But I'm not worried about that yet, because I downloaded the updated drivers right before that, and I didn't restart my computer. When I exited GW2, I tried to go into the NVIDIA control panel, and it said I didn't have the 680M card installed. I restarted the computer after that, and the control panel worked again after that. I couldn't try GW2 again though, so I will have to give another update later on tonight when I can actually try it out again.
3) I called Power Notebooks Support yesterday to ask them about the extra parts that came with my computer. The ziplock bags they came in opened up during shipping (the only thing "bad" that happened during shipping), so I had to make sure that all the parts I was supposed to have come with it came with it, and didn't get accidentally thrown away by me. I spoke with Donald, and he said to send him a picture of the stuff I did have, which I did. He responded to me today through e-mail, saying that everything was in order and that I didn't lose anything. I greatly appreciate the timely response I got from Donald.
UPDATE 10/26/12: I spoke with Abe last night, and got all my problems fixed. I was right about my video card. Once I restarted my computer, it worked, and the graphics are beautiful. The S-Bar, according to Abe's "no BS assessment" as he put it, is in fact crap. He recommended if I wanted something similar to Object Dock, I could upgrade to Windows 8, since the Metro Interface allows you to do that. But I think I'll wait a little bit before I do that and see what the reviews for Windows 8 are. Besides, I can just spend the $15 dollars to upgrade to Windows 8 through Microsoft if I want to.
This will probably be my last update. All in all, I am very happy with the service I got from Power Notebooks. The fact that Abe said I could call him up directly at the sales number, and not the tech support number, was great, and they have done everything possible to make sure I was happy, including sending me an e-mail asking if I liked my new computer. If you are looking for a great gaming laptop, go with Power Notebooks. I promise you won't regret it. "
