Over the years I have purchased many computers from a variety of sources (big box retailers, directly from the manufacturer, through Amazon, from a budget customization shop, and even from small a small local shop), always with the goal of getting the best specs for the buck.

What I have found is that the reliable computers had lots of horrible proprietary programs, and mediocre customer support and the computers with the best support needed it because they were so unreliable.

What I found from Puget was different even from the start.

First off, check out their website--you can see the people you are dealing with.

The purchase process was great:
William (my "sales" guy) patiently and promptly answered many, many emails as I comparison shopped and tried to optimize my configuration. He was very solution-based instead of specs-based in his approach, and really knew his stuff. (I'm the guy my friends, family and coworkers come to with computer issues, and even I was impressed)

It was easy to order.

The build process was impressive.
Granted, there is no immediate gratification here: you can't just load the computer into your car and bring it home. That said, their web site is pretty amazing--they share all the checklists they are going through with your build and even show pictures and thermal imaging (it would have been even better if they had taken a picture of the empty case to kick off the process, but that really is a nit)

The shipping and set-up process was well thought out.
The box and padding were very effective, and the unpacking instructions were very good. It even comes with a binder with key information and other relevant data.

I have not yet had the need to call their tech support--my PC just sits utterly silent in a corner doing everything I ask it to, without any unnecessary software. It just works.

Bottom line:
Puget Custom Computers is an affordable luxury brand.

If you are really cash-strapped, you'd probably be better off getting a mass-produced computer and making friends with the IT person at work. Otherwise, I would recommend you give Puget a look. I can't imagine buying a PC anywhere else!"

"I was looking for an American-assembled laptop, and a little bit of web surfing brought me to Puget Systems. I was impressed by their website and wide range of customization options. Jeff was more than helpful as he answered (very quickly) all the questions I had about the differences between the Traverse and Traverse Pro lines. We came to the conclusion that the Traverse would suit my needs sufficiently. I really liked the fact that he did not push the more expensive Traverse Pro like representatives from other companies would do.
Puget’s online quoting system is nice and clean with clear labels as to the price consequences of upgrading / downgrading a component. My first reaction was “wow, this is a little pricey,” but after comparing the Traverse to similar configurations from the big companies, I decided there wasn’t a significant enough difference for me not to seek the quality Puget has provided.
As for the system itself, I am very pleased so far – it seems to be a solidly built piece of machinery, and I was able to customize all the hardware. The best part is that there is no crapware to be found, and they offer to install programs such as a web browser and open source office program if you wish (for free). I also appreciated the real-time updates of the status of the system in assembly. I enjoyed checking in on its progress via their website. They list all the benchmark scores on the tests they run. The documentation Puget provides in the shipment with the system is comprehensive.

I would certainly recommend building a system with Puget.

(One more good thing: I stored the configuration for my system in my account on Puget’s website about a month prior to actually purchasing it. The price for the overall configuration dropped about $100 in that month, but this was not initially reflected in the stored quote. The day I purchased the system, I asked Jeff if anything about the system (like parts) had changed in the month – he said there was a price decrease and changed the quote accordingly. Thumbs up for the honesty.)"
