"This order was cancelled by them because I did not purchase the Battery and charger from them. These guys do a complete bait and switch.
Retail Scum"
"This merchant is one of the WORSE, if not THE WORSE, merchant that I ever dealt with. Placed an order, but did not receive any confirmation. Called customer service after 2 weeks and I was told the order was never placed. I placed it again, and again did not receive any confirmation. Called customer service again and the customer service Rep was rude, swears and told me the two orders were cancelled because they are out of stock, yet, they are still advertising it. Never met customer service Rep, who are rude and swears until now. DO NOT SHOP at this merchant."
"DO NOT BUY HERE! All other reviews are clear enough but i feel like sharing this. I was appalled with my experience with this company. I placed an order which i had to cancel later. According to Sonic the lens i ordered didnt "fit" on my camera (which i still don't understand but that isnt the point).
After the cancellation I had a few questions about the billing and other potential other lenses and three calls followed:
call 1: The person didnt answer any question and replied on everything with "yes" until I finally hung up.
call 2: The person didn't listen at all and just said i had to type something in the search window on website. When I asked him to listen to my question he hung up.
3: I called to ask why sonic was treating its customers like this and told them that in the last call they hang up the phone. The guy answered he didn't believe me. I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. I said why they were "freakin" treating their customers like this, he said if you start cursing at me i'll hang up the phone. By then i heard enough and hung up myself.
They clearly dont care!! AVOID THESE PEOPLE!!"
"After reading only a few of the reviews on this site, I thought, its already been said........but I just have to vent a little. I've never had such an upsetting experience with an online vendor. My son, a film major in college, purchased a Cannon camera (on my credit card)at a great price $999. When I called to verify the sale, "Nick" asked for the security code from my credit card. He then told me that my son had neglected to order a battery - the camera didn't come with one. After ordering the battery for an additional $300, my son was asked which lens he wanted -- and told he really needed the one that cost $1,500, oh yea, and a charger because it doesn't come with that either, etc, etc. When my son called to tell me the price was up to $3,500, I called to cancel the order. "Nick" became very aggressive to the point of YELLING at me. Said I would be charged a 'cancellation fee', then it was too late to cancel, then, the item had already shipped, then "I have $3500 of your money, so you can take it up with your credit card company!" and hung up. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY !!! "
"If you want to buy from unprofessional and uncommitted sellers, you are at the right place.
I placed an order on Aug. 27, 2008 and received an order confirmation from Website. The Deal was too good to be true. Next day when I called up to follow up on this order, they kept forwarding my call to one another for several minutes. They disconnected line a couple of times and finally I was told that they have cancelled order because they are out of stock.
Be careful before you order with them."
"I'm so glad I found this sight before I made the same mistake my good friend did by ordering from these idiots. I told my friend to get the Nikon d80, Speedlight SB800, and a NIKON lens with a 2.8 f-stop. The original price for the camera was $379. I thought it was too good to be true, and it was. Oh, that was just for the body. No battery, cables, software, manual, etc. Basically all of the items that would be included in the box from Nikon. All of those items brought the price closer to $750. Then, he was "upsold" to a Sigma lens that was "every bit as good as the Nikon, just cheaper. Oh yeah, and the SIGMA flash was every bit as good as the Speedlight SB800, but only $250. So basically, he got the D80, Sigma lens, and Sigma flash that has absolutely no controls, just an on/off switch for a mere $1115!! He could've had everything that I told him to get for that same price going to Costco!! I didn't have the heart to tell him that he got taken, but I was irate!! I have used his new purchase, and it does work fine, but just WAY overpriced for what he ended up with. To sum it all up, if you place an online order and you then have to call and confirm, then they try to sell you lots of stuff that you didn't want, HANG UP!! The batteries that come with these cameras will will easily shoot 500 pictures. Steer clear of these internet bait and switch scam artists!! And stay away from 1wayphoto.com, as well. Take a look at their fine review on this site. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE SPENDING A LOT OF $$$$!!"
"Stay Away. I was roped into getting a Canon 40D and a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 when all I wanted was the Canon 24-70mmf/2.8 lens. After I agreed, he asked if I wanted to upgrade to a metal ring for the body attachment site for the Canon or the Sigma, what a crock. The Camera works great but the lens was broken when I got it. The manual focus wouldn't work. I called my salesman back, acted like he didn't remember me, set me to repairs to get a number and had to pay $20 to send it back when it came broken. Don't know if I will ever receive a new one. State they normally make you go to the manufacturer but they would replace it. Avoid this place at all costs. I know better, but didn't listen to that voice in my head."
"TOTAL BAIT AND SWITCH! I WAS SO NAIVE AND FOUND THIS PLACE JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. I ORDERED THE NIKON D80 PACKAGE WITH THE 18MM-135MM LENS. I TOO RECEIVED AN EMAIL TELLING ME TO CALL AND CONFIRM MY ORDER. THAT IS WHEN THE "SWITCH" TOOK OVER. THE CAMERA APPARENTLY HAS NO BATTERY OR CHARGER. I WOULD NEED TO BUY $450 WORTH IN ORDER TO USE THE CAMERA I WAS TOLD. ALSO, I WOULD NEED TO BUY A NEW "FASTER" MEMORY CARD, WHICH I DECLINED. I WAS THEN "OFFERED" AN UPGRADE FROM THE "EUROPEAN" MODEL OF CAMERA I HAD UNKNOWINGLY PURCHASED, FOR THE "AMERICAN" VERSION, WHICH THANKFULLY, WOULD BE IN ENGLISH! BUT, I WOULD FIRST HAVE TO PURCHASE THE BATTERIES AND MEMORY CARD IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THIS "FREE" UPGRADE! SO, MY $560.00 CAMERA WOULD NOW COST $1200.00, AND I REALLY HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS I WOULD EVEN BE GETTING. THE SALES REP TALKED SO FAST AND SLICK THAT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY ALL TO CONFUSE THE CUSTOMER. I FINALLY HAD TO CANCEL MY ORDER. HOPEFULLY THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THAT. I ALSO FILED MY COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB OF NY."
"SCUMBAGS-THIEVES-LIARS-CROOKS-CON ARTISTS-LOWLIFES!
Do not use this dishonest company. I bought a Panasonic AG-HVX200A camcorder for $4099.99. Turns out it is a 'grey' market camera designed for the Japanese market, so Panasonic USA will not honor warranties. They do everything possible to pull off this scam, even offering 'USA Warranty" which has nothing to do with Panasonic. They offered a $100 free bonus pack... a camera case, (but not for this camera) a tripod, (3 inches tall!!)... just a bunch of crooks. They offer cheap deals... but they are offering part packages... rather like advertising a car very cheap without the engine!"
"I wish I would have read this first. This company has very shady business practices so I'd advise you to avoid them. They advertised a Sony DSR-SR220 camcorder for $399.99. It seemed like a good deal so I placed an order this weekend. Today I get an email to call them to 'confirm the order'. When I called they said...do you want the xxx battery for $79 or the xx battery for $119? I said I just want the camcorder as advertised, not an upgrade kit. They said it was a 'Wholesale' price and there is no battery, charger, cables, etc included. Totally false advertising. I canceled the order...let's see how hard it is to get my $'s back. Here's the link... http://soniccameras.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=63_766_1256&products_id=5033 . Buyer beware!! "
"I knew these were rip-off artists from the beginning. I just wanted to see for myself. So I ordered a Nikon SB 800 flash unit for $279.00. Yes, I got the obligatory message to call and confirm the order. When I called, the person who answered, asked me which camera I own. I told him a digital camera, he said in that case that I needed the digital version for $369.00! Well, there is only one version made, so I told him I just wanted the one for $279.00. He hung up, yea, like I didn't see that coming! "
"I should have read this site before ordering. I was one of the lucky ones to figure out that this is a bait and switch company. Mine was an order for a Canon EF lens. Advertise a low come on price on line, then tell you it is out of stock if you don't buy another lens that you don't want. Sounds like a company that is in the bait and switch game. Sales person calls you the day after you place our order on line. If you don't buy the more expensive lens they are hawking, you get an email the next day saying it is out of stock due to high demand and your order is canceled. I called the next day and was told that the lens is in stock and available. When I confronted them with the facts they hung up and won't take your calls. I was fortunate in that I didn't get charged on my credit card. They are defintely Bait and Switch Artists and should be closed down. Don't waste your time with them. Charles"
"I tried to buy a Speedlite 580ex flash. Firat attempt (28246) they cancelled the order telling me they no longer accept American Express in spite of what it says on their web site. Second order attempt they tried to get me to buy batteries and "upgrade" the flash to a different more expensive non Canon model. I refused both and got an email stating that the device was on backorder for 6-8 weeks. They cancelled my order. When I ordered the flash, thier site told me it was in stock. What a waste of time."
"Thieves!
I started to place an order, Gave them shipping and billing information BEFORE we confirmed the order. I then find out that the “great deal” on their camera and lens package does not include lens mounts. (The plastic ones are available at $149.00 per lens.) When I decide to cancel my order, (since they already have my billing info) will cost me a 15% restocking fee. When I ask to speak to a manager, the sales man tells me he is the manager. BAD PLACE TO DO BUSINESS.
"
"My hope is that someone wishing to purchase camera equipment from Sonic Cameras reads all of the forums and customer reviews of this company before purchasing anything from them. They have mastered the art of bait and switch selling tactics and use every method of intimidation and bullying practices known to man. I had to learn this the hard way and am still in the process of trying to get my $1400.00 back from them. They know who they can prey on and use every high pressure technique they can think of to make you believe you are getting a great deal, when in actuality you are getting 3rd party equipment that isn't worth 1/4 of what they tell you. Don't waste your time with this company (they have an unsatisfactory rating with the New York BBB) and do research not only the equipment you're wanting but also on the company selling it. Bottom line...STAY AWAY FROM SONIC CAMERAS!!!!"
