"I read some great reviews on this company before I made two orders with them. I wish I had seen this site. I am new in the SLR field, but I had done my research and knew what I wanted to order. When I made my first order, the salesman convinced me that I didn't want the two lenses I ordered with my Canon Xsi. He told me the Sigma lens was better and offered a "great package" deal. I asked if I could send the lens back if I was not satisfied, and he said "of course!" When I received my shipment, I tried the lens for at least 2 weeks in a variety of conditions, and I was not satisfied. I called back to order/exchange for the lenses I wanted originally and I was told that the Sigma lens was part of a package deal and that I couldn't return it. I swallowed hard, and said "okay" and ordered the lenses I wanted--I thought. One of the lenses I wanted was replaced by a different one with a shorter zoom. My original order that should have cost around $250+/- cost me $400! The salesman informed me that he had sent a "better lens"! I asked if I could return it, but of course I can't because it was part of a package deal--one I didn't know I was ordering.
I had to call this morning to get an invoice (because of course they don't send one when you order--somehow on two orders I haven't gotten one until my order has come in and I have asked for one).
Yes, their prices are low--way too low--but I was on my guard about that. The second time I thought "I won't be stupid." I still got taken. The salesman I spoke to basically said, "I'm sorry you feel that way." He spoke of their customer service, to which I responded, "What customer service? When you sell a lens you say I can return, then won't allow a return because it is part of a 'package' deal I never ordered, that's not customer service!"
When a company...
-->won't send an invoice until you ask for one
-->says they will allow returns but fix the order in a package so you can't
-->boasts of great customer service but their idea of that is "we replaced what you ordered with a better lens" and "I'm sorry you feel that way"
...STAY AWAY FROM THAT COMPANY!!!!!"
"They continue to advertise a product they never had...I was up early in the morning when i saw this special go up....they took my credit card they processed the order and just like the web site had warned, after two days they cancelled because i did not buy enough assessories...they aare frauds and google shuld really be policing people like these and RAZZ another company that did the same"
"I wish I'd researched this company before I placed an order with them. I ordered a lens for my son's graduation and, after a call from a rep the next day verifying my credit card and selling add-ons, I was led to believe all was fine.
After waiting a week and receiving no shipping confirmation, I called them only to be told the lens I ordered was back-ordered 4-6 weeks. When asked why I wasn't notified the rep stated that the email was probably in my spam folder. I had already checked before calling and no such letter was ever received in my spam folder (two other emails made it to my inbox - why would another letter go in spam?).
If I had a scam folder I'm sure it would turn up there.
My advise: Stay away from soniccameras.com"
"I had a terrible experience with this company! I ordered what I wanted online but needed to talk to a sales rep on the phone to "confirm" my order. The next thing I knew, my order had doubled in price and he could not tell me the price break down of each item, but telling me he was getting me "great deals." Despite my calling twice a day for a week to correct this (I just wanted what I ordered first) he finally hid behine policy and redtape saying his hands were tied. I will never buy from this company again. I have half a mind to go back to point-and-shoot after this experience! Prices look good online but they will sell you every individual piece from the kit at more than 300% increase! Worst online shopping experience EVER!!! Stay away from Soniccameras!!!"
"Classic bait and switch. I ordered one thing, got a call saying the one I ordered was the plastic Japanese version (which doesn't exist byh the way), they tried to sell me an entirely diffeent kit. I cancelled the order promptly. Do not trust their great advertised prices!"
"Last week I ordered a Canon GL2 and a Fuji DSLR from sonic cameras website. Within a few hours I got an email saying that they needed verbal conformation that this order was placed by me, so I returned the phone call. They guy tried to sell me upgrades but I refused. The next day I received another email, this time it said my order was canceled due to a backorder that would take 6-8 weeks. So I called the number and told them I wanted to make a purchase and needed to verify that the items were in stock. They guy "Michael" told me that everything was in stock and he could help me with my order. I told him that I was order #XXXXX and I had recorded the call to provide evidence that he was a crook. He then hung up on me. I guess if it sounds too good to be true, it is."
"As others state, this is a bait and switch operation. They lure you in with a low price and then you find out nothing comes with the camera when they "call up" to confirm the order. I cancelled mine as soon as "Chris" started his sales pitch. These guys should be reported to the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General's Office."
"BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered Canon U.S.A. D40 and a Canon EF 28-135 IS USM lens from these criminals on June 12. They promised it would ship 3 Day express. I received delivery on June 23 and I received a gray market camera body which was obviously a previously sold RE-PACK, and a cheap, plastic mount 28-85mm lens.
I called Sonic Camera and complained. They insisted the camera was not gray market, but after contacting Canon U.S.A. with the serial number, I was told that the camera body was for sale in the Asian market, not the U.S.A.
I had to ship them back the lens, at my expense. They promised to overnight me the correct lens on the same day they received the other lens back. That was on June 24. Today is June 30.
The lens was shipped to me on June 27 by UPS GROUND. I am still waiting to see if I will receive the lens I ordered. I need the camera and cannot go for weeks without it, so I am relagated to keeping the gray market body.
These people at Sonic Cameras, without exception, are deceitful, lying scumbags. DO BUSINESS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
DO NOT TRUST SONIC CAMERAS in Brooklyn, New York."
"BEWARE! this is not a legit web site. They have no intention of selling the product for the advertized price. After placing an order, I received an email that I need to call to confirm my order. After calling, the sales person was asking me what kind of battery I want for the digital camera 2 hour or 3 hours ( Digital camera - who cares about battery hours ). After saying that I don't need any additional batteries, I was pretty much rudely cut off and told that I will get an order shipping update shortly. 2 days later I've received an email that my camera was on back order and my order was canceled. I've checked their web site and they do list it still in stock and under new current promotion.
I've checked a couple of other similar prices web site and after doing some investigation, found a couple of other web sites operation under different name but from the same owner & location.
Beware of Photo Dynasty and Razz Photo web sites as well as they offer the same nonexistent service.
simply a bait and switch operation. They have no intention of selling the products at the prices they advertise. I have tried to order a D300 three times (shame on me). Everytime they try to switch you to non Nikon products or charge you significantly more than the advertised price.
I can't believe they can legally operate this site."
"Found a great deal on a camcorder, too good to be true. I ordered a Canon HG10 that lists for $650, but the Sonic Cameras price showed $399. I received an email the next day to confirm my order. When I called, they asked what battery and charger that I wanted. I informed them that the two hour (standard) battery and the standard charger would be fine, no prices were discussed and that was it. I checked my account the next day and noticed that I had been charged $898!! I called them and was informed that the extra price was for the battery and the charger. Wow, and to think that reputable dealers include those items. I received the package that Friday and called to cancel, they were closed. Finally on Sunday I reached a person and was informed that customer service isn't open on the weekend!! Called Monday and got run around about when their hours are, finally got a real person. He argued with me about what camcorder that I had received, he claimed that the $399 model was the Japanese version! That is not listed anywhere on their listing, as is the fact that the battery and charger come separate with a hefty pricetag!! Finally he offered to send me $150 back, which I accepted and promised to never again do business with them!! DO NOT FALL FOR THE TRAP!!"

"Two days after ordering a camcorder from this company, I called to find out the status of my order. The "customer service rep", who claimed his name was Steve, was rude, deceitful and mocking during our conversation. When I asked to speak to his supervisor or a manager, he claimed that he was the only person I could talk to. After cancelling our order, he threatened to run the charges through anyway, and ship the camcorder in seven weeks.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL BE SORRY."
"These are not people, they seek money with no regard for peoples hard earned savings. I hope they go out of business.
I've submitted the following to the BBB (with minor modifications).
I recently submitted an order for two cameras to Sonic Cameras (http://www.soniccameras.com) for a certain price (approx. $1000). Upon receiving a call from a representative (who sounded very unprofessional and should have tipped me off from the start) I was asked a series of questions as to what kind of material I would like with my camera (batteries etc.). I answered the questions but was never told a total price. I requested an inventory of the items ordered via email and was promised a receipt prior to approval, the representative agreed yet I never received a copy. I later found out by looking at my credit card statement recent activity that they had already made the charge for nearly twice of what I had originally authorized!! The unauthorized charge is what is being disputed as I simply never gave my concent to purchasing $1950 worth of material nor would I have as it is out of my budget. I was later told that I couldn't cancel my order so now I'm in the process of refusing the order via UPS and have cancelled my credit card. Possibly one of the most disturbing parts was the flagrant hostility that the sales representative had when I was requesting to cancel my order and me expelaining that I never authorized $1950 worth of merchandise. He didn't want to hear any of it and started arguing with me... and is completely out of line with how any human should interact, especially those in a customer service position! Unbelievable! The sales rep then hung up the phone only 2-minutes into our conversation and never made an attempt to call or email back though I've tried calling at least 20 times now with no answer. The person was in fact yelling at me on the phone prior to hanging up. Regardless of BBB findings, this company does have a history of unfair business practices... I do hope they will see reprocussions of their unethical behavior, please see http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Sonic_Cameras for reference.
DO NOT SHOP FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY WILL NOT BE JUST IN THEIR BUSINESS DEALINGS.
Best wishes to everyone out there trying to find honest merchants."
"Sonic Camera review: Rude, Rip off bate and switch
My letter to them.....
To Whom It May Concern:
I was so happy to find your web site! Your prices looked great and the merchandise was just what I was looking to buy. I had actually told a couple of my friends about your site and fabulous deals already.
This morning someone called me saying they where from your company. They asked me (in a very rude way and voice) for my 3 digit security code from the back of my credit card. I told the person I was never asked for it when I ordered my two cameras on line the day before. I was suspicious as I heard what sounded like a call center with lots of phone conversation in the back ground. He said "If you don't believe me call the company phone # and ask for a supervisor. I did just that and was connected with the same very rude and abrupt sales person? He said he was a supervisor and that the camera I ordered did not have a battery microphone assembly or charger. I was also informed that the camera came with a rebate of 400 or so $$. This I had not heard about in the original purchase either. I told your supervisor to just cancel the order! He called back 5 minutes later and told me I would be charged a 10% cancellation fee.
My advise to you...Fire this guy who ever he is or send him to a sales school. I will never shop your site again as I could have been a long term customer!
By the way I cancelled my credit card and will blog about this inexcusable experience with SONICCAMERA.COM
Thank you, G"
"I placed an order for a Canon Rebel xsi from soniccameras.com and received an email thanking me for the order and they would contact me if there were any questions. I then got suspicious and googled "sonic cameras" and found this site.
I immediatley called my credit card company and canceled my card. The next day I didnt get the standard email about calling them to confirm my order, but the one about my item was on backorder.
Instead of contacting me about problems charging my card, they just said my order was backordered and cancelled.
