"I bought a Blackberry 8320 from www.thriftycomputer.com and activated it a few month later since I live in Costa Rica and they did no have any celular phone lines available at the time. The phone could not be activated since the local provider kept getting an error "INCORRECT SERIAL FORMAT" and they told me that they phone was defective. I contacted www.thriftycomputer.com to get a replacement phone since it was a problem with the manufacturing problem and thought the phone would be replaced without a problem. They refused to change it since it had been more than the 30 day warranty they offer, but as I tried to explain, the problem was the defective phone, not with something I could change but with an error from the source (RIM or Blackberry). I tried to get the name of the supervisor who kept refusing to change the phone, and an attorney tried to contact them several times and they kept being told that the manager was not available, or that the customer service person was on vacation.
Very unhappy and basically I got taken for $327 which is the amount paid at the time for the phone.

After this review, I contacted the owner of Thriftycomputer.com and after sending mails back and forth, he told me that replacing the phone would cost him XX amount of dolars, but that he would replace it.
Almost 1 year later, I am still waiting for the replacemente phone..."

"Horrible Service, I cancelled the order even before the Item was shipped and I mean cancelled one week before it was shipped, but they still shipped it, I ordered the package on Dec 13th and still waiting for a refund (its Feb 23rd).
Please do yourself a favour and just carry on to another website, these people are in a business of Bait and switch.
My Ordeal:
I ordered a Blackberry 8100 on Dec. 13th through the website (website showed there were 130 in stock), but as I was checking the status of the shipment it was not shipped to me until December 17th, and Sales team told me that it would not ship until Dec 21st (monday) so I went ahead and cancelled the order on that call right there on Dec 17th as the 8100 would not have made it to me by Christmas eve and I was going to be out of country after that. I was told that I would get a confirmaton email regarding the cancellation but it was never sent.
I waited till Dec 26th for the cancellation email and then I opened a dispute with Paypal for this transaction on Dec 26th. After that I was Out of country until Jan 20th. But as I was checking the status, nobody from Thriftycomputer even bothered to check the dispute and still went ahead and shipped the phone to me on Dec 28th.
Once I returnend from my trip I contacted Thriftycomputer regarding this and I was told that if I dont pick up the order it would be shipped back to the sender (Thriftycomputer) and once they receive it they would refund me the amount.
I verified with my Post Office and this package was shipped back to the sender on Jan 26th, but I still have not yet received a refund.
I have been trying to contact thriftycomputer for a long time but the contact number from the "Contact Us" page is removed.
Finally, got hold of someone and I was told that ThriftyComputer does not have the item and I have to contact PayPal for a refund ?!!?"

I bought a Blackberry 8320 from these guys 6 months ago. It is already dead!!
When I received the item, it worked fine. Within a month the camera stopped working and the mute button failed. (The phone was never dropped or handled roughly).
Within two months, all the black paint/material on the phone's body started to peel off.
Finally I took it for repair, the BB Service Technician who opened it, informed me that the phone internals have been opened before and tampered before. He also informed me that the internals (motherboard) etc look very old and are probably not brand new.
This seller is terrible and a COMPLETE ripoff.
Do-not get tempted by cheap prices! This is a ripoff!! "

"I ordered a phone from ThriftComputer on 12/21 hoping to receive it by Christmas Day. Their web site showed that they had plenty in stock. But by 1/15 the item had not been shipped and customer service stated that they had oversold the item even though their web site still showed plenty in stock, albeit at a higher price. When I initiated a dispute with PayPal, ThriftyComputer did return the money."
"Not satisfied. Ordered phone on the 12th of jan. They received my payment via Paypay on the 14th. It is now the 25th of Jan. I have received no response from the company. Their phone number is out of service. Am I to assume they are out of business, or just don't care? I will give them one more day to respond before I file a complaint with Pay PAy. I bought a blackberry curve 8320 on December 23rd, and the only thing I have received so far is the confirmation e-mail they sent me the same day of the purchase. I called them on Dec 30th and was told that my product would ship the following week because the product was out of stock (although at the moment of the purchase they said they had the product in stock). It's been 4 weeks already and the status of my order still appears as "processing". I sent an e-mail about 10 days ago to find out about my order, but nobody replied. I have been calling customer service since yesterday and NOBODY answers the phone (I have called more than 10 times). I want my money back now!!! This is the worst experience I have ever had with an online purchase. Do not buy any products from this company! This is a total disappointment."
"Mediocre company at best. Took almost 3 weeks to recieve my motorola bluetooth headset (while I received another similar headset from another vendor in a few days). When I got it it was obviously repackaged (but advertised as new). The earpiece was dirty, and most of the replacement earpiece covers were missing. The whole thing had a generally used quality, with a ratty manual and a dilapidated container. I am not going to pursue it with ThriftyComputer, because the thing works, and it is not worth the hassle of dealing with them further, especially given the low scores they have here at resellerratings. I rarely rate or review products or vendors, but these guys are really just pretty low quality service. Would not purchase from them again."

Placed order at 10:30am on December 17th, 2009. It is now December 24th and order has not shipped. I paid through my PayPal account with verified funds for a BlackBerry 8110 plus an additional $6 for Priority Mail. Listed as 31 in stock. Chat function on website does not work. I called customer service on Dec. 22 and was told that it shipped and I would receive a tracking number in via email that evening or the next morning. No tracking number arrived. I called again on Dec. 23 at 3:30pm and was told it shipped again but they couldn't give me a tracking number. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for 10 minutes before being told one was not available. They took my cell phone number and said I would receive a call back, which I did not. I called back at 4:50pm and was on hold for 40 minutes before being disconnected. The website lists two different hours of operation, 5pm and 6pm closing times. Apparently it is before that. I called back this morning at 11am and was on hold again for 40 minutes before being asked to leave a message.
This was to be my daughters Christmas present. I can't say enough how disappointed I am that I did business with this company. I guess all I have left to do now is buy a phone somewhere else, try to get a refund and report them to the BBB and the USPS for fraud. They shouldn't take the money until the item ships, and if the have holiday hours, they should post them. The lack of communication is unprofessional. Holding money and not shipping is unethical. If they only knew I owned an IT company, with 100's of clients I could have reffered to them, had I received decent service.
Update: On Dec. 30th we received an email from Elchonon, Owner of Thrifty Computer apologizing for the delay and offering us a 50% rebate and the phone for our trouble. Also, the silicon skin we ordered was unavailable and we would be receiving a refund. We received a tracking number on Dec 31st. and an email indicating our order was complete. The phone arrived on Jan. 7th. Correct phone, new in box as advertised. We HAVE NOT RECEIVED our refund for the skin or the 50% we were promised. PayPal closed the case because the phone shipped. I tried calling today and the PHONE IS DISCONNECTED! I got the phone, the skin was only $7, so I am going to lower my stress level and just let it go. Hopefully this review will warn others DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY."

I placed and order on a Saturday Dec 19th on Monday I followed up with an email because I never received any order confirmation but money was taken right out of Paypal the same day I ordered, I was told being shipped that day. Well Wed still nothing emailed again and told it takes 72 hours to process and would be shipped that day. Mind you on Monday was told by same person 42 hours to process. Then I was told USPS was going to be closed Thurs, Fri Sat & Sun due to the holiday, which is so not true! At this point I said cancel order & was told manager would get right back to me with refund...Well no email or anything...I've opened a dispute with Paypal & we will see if it gets resolved.....DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SHADY COMPANY!!!!!"
"I ordered the Blackberry Pearl 8120 on December 6, 2009 and as of December 23,2009 I have yet to receive the phone. Every time I called customer service, they are always giving me excuses, they're waiting on the shipment of new cell phones. As an Active Duty Marine, I believe this is a load of B.S. I'm going to take this matter to my Chain of Command to resolve this issue.
UPDATED 01/07/2010 received the phone on Tuesday 01/05/2010 and I am satisfied with the phone. The owner of the company emailed me and explained why it took so long, due to a locked batch and had to order more. The owner wants to make it up to me,so he's going to send me a silicon case, free of charge. I was upset with the company, not knowing where my phone was, but after a few email from the owner, changed my opinion of the company. I plan on ordering from this company again, in the near future."
