"Initially, I gave a random/made-up phone number with my order, so that I wouldn't have my number sold. (I do that from time to time because I'm too lazy to read through Terms and Conditions.) The email address I provided was accurate. Because of this, I received an email notifying me that the bank would not authorize the transaction because the phone number did not match - which was reasonable.
The purchase was a birthday gift that I wanted to arrive on time. I replied to the email with my actual information on file with the bank. I did not receive an email in response. My bank account showed the purchase as pending, but there was no indication that the Tamron lens I'd ordered would ship in a timely manner, so I thought I'd reach out to TriState customer service.
Their 1-800 number was out of range for my area. I live on the West coast, but really, I didn't even know that was possible for a working number (maybe it's not a working number) - and what kind of company has a 1-800 number that can't be called from anywhere in the US? Only a company that doesn't actually provide customer service.
I tried calling the person I'd emailed, whose signature was "Tom", with a phone number from area code 718, New York City. I called, and got the voicemail for "Leo", with an Indian accent. "Leo" did not respond to the message I left.
At this point, I looked up TriState on Facebook to read reviews. Facebook is sometimes more reliable than other venues, since everyone and their mother has a big mouth and an FB. Sure enough, I read claims that they're not a licensed Nikon vendor, that their customer service reps are evasive, that refunds are impossible to aquire, etc.
The only thing they did right was accept my request to cancel the order. Shop elsewhere."
