"My most recent purchase from Ubid was a new IBM laptop. The price was fair, the unit shipped quickly and arrived well-packed, the inner box had IBM seals intact.
This is the fourth computer I have purchased from Ubid. I have purchased items for many years now, going back to 1998 or so. Over the years I have had *one* actual problem with an order, when I was given incorrect instructions for returning it (even so, it was eventually resolved to my satisfaction after a couple of weeks of emails). One item, I believed was refurb'ed not new (a ladies shaver), but everything else has been as advertised, shipped quickly, without billing errors or problems. It seems other people have had some problems with this company ... while they may not be the best in terms of services, if you are careful in choosing your purchases, you can get very good deals here.
I am happy with my experiences with Ubid."
"I purchased a 6GB Ipod. When I got it it was 4GB. I called them the next day and they offered me an exchange or refund. I chose refund and they said they will send a RA number. After not hearing from them for a day, I emailed and called daily. Everyday it was, we'll send it to you in 10-15 minutes. After 1 week, nothing.
What king of business is this??"
"Giving my 2nd VERY POSITIVE review here for Ubid. In my last review with an order date of 3-5-06, I praised Ubid because I had received the (8)speakers that I had ordered in unopened, new condition with no apparent defects. I also said that I was so impressed that I was going to order more speakers.
I did so and my second batch came in right on time as did my first order. They are also in original factory boxes and apparently brand-new in-box from inspection.
I received them in one very large box that looked like it had gotten a few kicks from a mule before it was sent. None of the interior boxes containing the speakers were the slightest bit damaged but I have to say that until I opened the box and inspected the contents, I was worried. Had this been delicate equipment such as computer equipment, home audio seperates, etc., it would most likely have been DOA.
I'm still giving Ubid a good score simply because I got what I ordered the 2nd time in a row and in a timely basis. Their shipping cost are still past ridiculous and with the way I received my package, I am glad that I did not order any delicate electronic equipment.
Update: I received all speakers promptly and in perfect condition. When I got them I also made a another of 4 more of the same speakers from Ubid and I also received them in perfect condition as well. I installed all 12 speakers in my place of business and the place sounds better or easily as good as any restaurant in town. "
" I had an account at Ubid.com for almost seven years and spent there many thousand dollars for home and work products. Ubid.com was never a very “user-friendly”, but, in the past, It has a rather small amount of imperfection and it was compensated by bargain prices on a range of products. Previously, if Ubid.com could not (or did not want to) send you a product you won, it could even propose a few dollars of compensation. At present you will not get this kind of money. However, they may lie proposing a compensation, but will not give it and will never answer e-mail with reminders.
Ubid.com is obviously “going down”. Some refurbished bargain products are still there, but it is possible to find better places, and prices for new items are higher then in respectable on-line stores. However, there is a worse problem which turning buyers away from it. Ubid.com is transforming into one of the least reliable place for shopping. From last several orders I could hardly receive a half. Being such unreliable, they like to take money for the non-delivered products, and do not want to return them. A refund request is becoming a battle, and e-mail is rarely answered. Phone support is very bad, and I caught them on lying a few times (or in most cases).
Ubid has also developed a trick for “inexperienced customers”, such as selling a fixed set and pricing “per item”. To make it work better, this pricing system is not disclosed in recent actions.
Ubid.com loves money at near criminal level. Recently I asked a supervisor (let’s call her S.D.) :”Can I have a full refund from Ubid.com for an item which was not delivered because was lost?”. I asked a few times to ensure this is not a mistake, and the answer was “No”. Same is likely valid for a DOD items.
Thus, Ubid.com is becoming a place to buyers, who likes to pay for non-delivered and defective products. I would not be surprised, that this kind of trade is responsible for a large part of Ubid.com profit.

"I ordered a Microsoft Trackball explorer from ubid on December 2, 2005 for a Christmas present for my mother who has bad carpal tunnel. It is the same trackball that I have been using for 3 years and it works great. I was a little hesitant because no one else had such a good price on this unit, and many people didn't have it at all. However, I thought (incorrectly) that ubid had a decent rteputation. I mad a mistake, I know. If I had just researched a little more I would have found out that they do NOT.
Anyway, the unit they sent me was a piece of crap Korean grey markey knock-off. It has the trackball on the side, not the top which I needed for my mom. Ubid had a picture though of the correct ball on the auction site. Had they had the real grey-0market unit I NEVER would have bought from them. We have bought things from Amazon, and ebay, as well as directly from other stores online. Ubid in my honest opinion is guilty of clear consumer fraud. They are shysters, nothing more, and they really don't deserve to be part of the online selling experience."
"The camera sent was DOA as was proven after consulting the manuafacturer tech
support who walked me through the testing. They issue me a case ID after the test proof camera defective. The case ID was given to UBID but UBID
said the camera they received was never tested by me at all because the batteries in the return package were still intact and unopened. I told them it was ordinary "AA" batteries so I tried to be nice and test it with my own batteries first. They refused to listen and for $202 they charged me, they only agree to return me $158. Nearly $50 was lost on my part for a bad camera they sent even though it is not my fault.
They always rule the issue to their advantage base on previous reviews from others.
Just crossed your finger when you bid on UBID. As propably the only winner is UBID
and not you. If the goods turn out bad. You are the looser not UBID always.
Pros. Lots of refurbished items.
Cons. Very bad return policy even with DOA. They do charged 20% restocking even when it is not your fault."
"Here's my latest dealing with ubid, buyers beware...
Actually, don't bother with "researching" my issue. I have since checked www.resellerratings.com and I realize that, based on your history, you have given me GREAT customer service. You actually sent my item, in a reasonable amount of time, and all I was missing was the only other thing promised in the listing. You sent 1 out of 2 things, 50%!!!! Congrats on your vast improvement! Your mothers must be so proud, that is, when they're not robbing liquor stores and mugging the handicapped.
I will give you credit for finding every way possible to shaft your bidders (read: the people that keep your sorry @sses in business). I wish I could get paid for that. It's a great job except for the d@mn customers, right?
In short, I will be dropping UBID from my favorites list soon, and will be cancelling my account shortly thereafter. Your "low" prices do not agree with my need for customer service from a company who cares about their customers.

"Vendor shipped defective "refurbished" merchandise and refused to exchange product even though it is still in stock. In hindsight, given my cost and extra wait needed to ship it to the manufacturer for repairs, I'd have rather purchased it for a little more at a reputable vendor. Don't assume "refurbished" means the item is working correctly and beware of all their fine print. If you do wait on hold long enough to get a customer service person, they will use any of it they can to get out of providing service to the customer. You might get a working product, but why not buy where you know the vendor will support their products with easy exchanges, regardless of their fine print?"
"I've had my camera, a Casio 750, about three weeks now, and I couldn't be happier. The unit was reconditioned, and well packaged. It was shipped very fast. The camera looks like brand new, and the savings was amazing. I would not hesitate to buy from here again. I think they would be wise to set up a feedback system on their site, since without one, most people will not to go to an outside site to to comment unless there is a problem. The many satisfied customers probably won't bother.
It is important to note that my purchase was directly from ubid, and not from an affiliate or individual through their site."
"I am happy with UBID service and will purchase again from them."
"I just got off the phone with a representative and their supervisor in regards to the placement of a bid from their site. I was looking for a keyboard and found this site through pricegrabber and I was led to believe, after registering that I was going to bid on a new logitech keyboard(website indicated they had 31 available. Going through the website I was led to believe that I was "BIDDING". Phrases that led you through their site included the following, "Bid Information", "Auction Information", "Place Your Bid", "Time Left To Bid", "Starting Bid","Reserve Price", "Incremental Bid", "Total Bid", and they even had a "U Buy It Bid". Are there indicators for you to place a bid? Absolutely!!! Well would you like to "PREVIEW YOUR BID"? Sure...you just bought it. I bought a relatively inexpensive product...what if you think your bidding on an item that sells in the hundreds of dollars. In as good as job as they could do the two ladies tried to conceal what this website is doing. Misleading the customer creating a lose/lose situation"
"Just purchased my second laptop from UBID. Laptop arrived complete with all discs and documentation. It was a refurb and yes the warranty was half what a new warranty is, but the price was also $500-$1000 less than new. I call that a bargain. Computer works great, a couple of minor blems on the case that have to be looked for to notice. I was really shocked to see some of the user ratings given to UBID. I have been extremely satisfied with their service and merchandise. I also enjoy the bidding process, you really have to be on your toes in the closing minutes of an auction. The refresh button is a necessity when the bidding gets fast and furious... Will use UBID again as the need arises. Kenny Parks

"Purchased refurbished laptop Gateway 450. Laptop turns on to black screen asking for password. After multiple attempts to resolve issue Vendor said to get it repaired by a professional, at my oen cost of course. Refurbished would imply this item has been repaired in some manner. Would deffinetly not do buissnes again with this company: UBID.com"
"I have purchased a refurbished lap top for $1000 almost $200 less from the original price for a new equipment. Felt like an amazing deal. But when the laptop arrived, I was shocked to see a piece of junk with full of scratches in the body and screen. I asked for a return. The customer service was bad. She said there will be a 15% restocking fee. I said the item is defective. She said scratches cannot be considered as defective. Finally I send the item back to Ubid asking for a full reimbursement. After 2 weeks I got the reimbursement after deducting 15% restocking fee. Eventually I lost $150 + $45 original shipping (That is too much for a fedex ground as return shipping with $1000 insurance cost me only $25) and the return shipping ($25). Finally lost a total of $220 for not a mistake of mine. I tried to save $200 by buying this item in Ubid and ended up paying an extra $220. Never ever I buy anything from Ubid. They are real cheats. Go to the store get the new product when there is a deal. U will have mental peace and lot of satisfaction.
The bottom line is STAY AWAY FROM UBID....THEY SUCKS!!!!!

"Longtime user of uBid, back from the days when they allowed comments next to bids. Have purchased 2 computers several digital cameras and several speakers and stereos from them.
No more.
Same customer service experience as profiled below...two identical e-mails challenging my identity (for the same info they already had on file). uBid made no calls for verification to either VISA, or me. I requested 2x that they call the number on my registration page so that I could verify THEIR identity. No phone calls.
VISA security said my card was already charged, indicating valid order. Confirmation received on bid win prior to that. Three days later, order cancelled by uBid.
General: Customer service doesn't read their e-mails or make phone calls. My guess is, that with customer service like this, they are headed the Egghead route.
I used to be a customer, and a good one. Too many other good retailers of the same goods out there to put up with stuff like this.
Update: I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and wrote a letter of complaint 10 days ago and received no response. I cancelled my uBid account yesterday. I'm using eCost and Tiger direct more often now...their service has been more predictable and prices are comparable.
Update 2: I was contacted by uBid and offered the merchandise at the same price as I won it on auction after the BBB contacted them a second time. No apology, no explanation, just "Do you want it? It is still available." I already purchased a different laptop from another vendor by that time, and to be quite honest, I won't buy from uBid again due to their customer service department. uBid really needs to upgrade this, and be aware of the growing Identity theft problem.
For those of you who are satisfied with uBid, I spent almost $5,000 with them over several years, and worked through several minor glitches (not as advertised goods, improper amount shipped, items DOA) When it works, it works well. When it doesn't, good luck.
