Another Solid Computer from Velocity Micro

"This was the third computer I have purchased from Velocity Micro. As with the previous machines, the quality is excellent. I recommend Velocity Micro to anyone who wants computer tailored exactly their needs, rather than something off the shelf.

The only problems were minor: There was a loose screw rattling about in the case. I has promised a HDMI port but there wasn't one (the only adapters included were from mini-DisplayPort to large DisplayPort). And I was told that the motherboard "probably" had a socket into which I could plug a TPM, but that is apparently not the case. Finally, it took me 16 days to the get the computer; I would have liked to get it a little sooner.

Still, this unit well worth the price. I will most likely buy from Velocity Micro again in the future.

Experience is not as good as it was with the other machines i ordered from Velocity

"This is my 5th machine i ordered from Velocity. In the past Velocity has done a much better job keeping me informed of the progress of my machine. I placed my order on 10/31 and was assured my machine would be built the next week. They are having trouble getting the motherboard I ordered and it is now going on 3 weeks from when it was supposed to be built. Amazon.com has 20 of the motherboards in stock and Newegg has them in stock. I am having a hard time understanding why they are not getting the motherboard as promised when it is still listed on the Velocity website as an option for the machine I ordered. "

They Made Me Happy

"First time customer of Velocity Micro. I ordered a Z25 workstation. My order arrived, but was not working out of the box. Velocity stood behind their product and made sure that the issue was addressed to my satisfaction. Other than a slight delay in being able to use it, I am completely satisfied with their integrity and would buy from them again."

Great Product

"My first Velocity desktop ran for 11 years and only needed repairs once. I'm just setting up its replacement now. If you want reliable hardware, delivered with no bloatware and a quality build you'd be hard pressed to do better than Velocity. The new computer may well outlive me, but if it doesn't, its replacdment will come from Velocity. I would never consider another manufacturer.

Amazing product!!!!!!! Raptor Z55

"This computer is for my husband. I was going for the best speed, least likely crash, ability to have as many chrome browser tabs open as he wants while working and watching movies at the same time, and also trying to get a better computer than the iMac Pro if that's possible. It was a challenge! I needed the computer to support 3 displays. Main use is husband's work (lots of google chrome tabs), and Adobe Creative Cloud. I read PC Mag reviews and researched the computers tested. I chose Velocity Micro because of the support and the ability to upgrade later, and because I could configure the world's greatest computer!!!!! My husband and I love it!!! Velocity Micro's website also impressed me because it is really informative and will be helpful when I need to know something or how to do something with my computer. Did I mention the blue lights? My favorite color.

Registry Problem

"I’m a returning customer, purchased an overclocked Z-55 about seven years ago. Time to update my laptop and purchased a Raptor S55 15.6” Laptop, 9th Gen i7 processor, 32GB memory and 1TB Solid-State Drive at a cost of a little over $3000.00. After receiving the S55 I noticed a software problem and immediately contacted Velocity’s tech support. A registry thread in the software they provide was missing. They couldn’t help and told me I would have to contact Microsoft, you would think this being a brand new machine it should be Velocity’s responsibility. It became evident they would not help correcting a problem in a $3000.00 machine they had just delivered, so I took it upon myself to contact Microsoft.
After going through a Microsoft chat session I received a call from their technical department. Understand that if you do not have an ongoing paid support account they will want to charge you for their expertise. The first phone call with their technical assistant lasted almost 4 hours. Yes, four hours and the problem was not resolved. The Tech said he wanted to confer with others and would call back the next day. He returned the call and after another hour the problem was corrected.
Combining the calls from Velocity and Microsoft it took me over six hours to correct a fault in a brand new, straight out of the box, Velocity machine. Remember they preach every inch of their computers are checked before delivery. The machine speed is lackluster, the touchpad is poor and it takes a couple hours to recharge.
Take it for what it’s worth, if you’re reading this you’re an experienced computer person looking for an advanced machine. I for one will not be purchasing any machines in the future from Velocity.

“Sorry to hear that you have not been satisfied and that you had a poor experience with Microsoft support (which we are not affiliated with), but we’re a little confused by this review. To clarify, the entirety of the software issue that you mention was that Microsoft Edge asked you for confirmation each time before closing all tabs, even after the box was checked to not ask again. We worked with you through email and phone to fix this for you even though it was not hardware or OS related - eventually determining that it was not caused by a registry error but rather a default setting within Edge. Had there been a registry error within Windows, the only way to correct that would be to either 1) reinstall Windows or 2) contact Microsoft for the key, which is why a support technician may have mentioned this. But again, this was not the cause of the problem you experienced.

It’s disappointing to hear that such a simple issue led to such a negative review. We have made multiple attempts to reach out to you to clarify and address any additional concerns, but have not heard back. We still value your business and hope to earn back your trust if possible.”

Excellent Choice for a Serious Bioinformatics Workstation

"We contacted Velocity Micro through the official AMD partner link as we were looking for a serious workstation for bioinformatics. We initially configured our system, but then asked for a consult, which they were happy to engage in. After explaining our needs, both immediate and for future extensibility, we settled on a dual socket AMD EPYC unit with twin RTX TITAN NVIDIA GPUs. As with all major builds, there were some problems. In our case, we had two fairly major ones; (a) Velocity Micro discovered that SuperMicro hadn't yet updated the BIOS for two RTX TITAN GPUs on the H11DSi-NT motherboards, so Velocity Micro was able to work with SM and get the BIOS updated to the 1.2 release. (b) The second major issue was that the RTX TITAN stock coolers were simply not going to be able to keep the cards cool enough to prevent them throttling down during computations. This was definitely a deal-breaker. After a discussion, we and Velocity Micro decided to go with liquid cooling via the EK Vector cooling blocks. After solving these two major issues, the rest of the build progressed smoothly. We now have the machine up and running Ubuntu (Linux) 18.04 LTS and crunching through bioinformatics data. We've very happy with the unit and the service. Highly recommended. As several people at Velocity Micro told us, "we will not ship the system until we're confident that it will work to spec under maximum load" - which it does!"

Months of failure to provide a working hard drive on a very high end computer.

"I purchased a high end PC and spent over $5,000. The 2 TB hard drive does not work. I have been ignored about this for months. Despite numerous emails, the firm has not sent me a working hard drive.
Working with Velocity had problems all along.
Instead of sending a replacement drive, I am given the run around.

“Apologies that you've been disappointed with your level of support. We have obviously not provided the level of assistance we pride ourselves on. You initially contacted our sales team regarding your hard drive issue and were referred to support for resolution but we then did not hear from you for four months. We have attempted to contact you through our support portal to initiate some troubleshooting steps prior to sending you a replacement hard drive and followed up with a direct response from our customer support manager. As a matter of policy, we cannot send components to customers until that process is complete, even one with an impressive list of credentials such as yourself. We look forward to hearing from you and resolving this matter to your satisfaction.”
