"I recently ordered a BYTECC DIY 3.5" 7200rpm USB 2.0/firewrie/Combo (New) Aluminum Flashing LED External HDD from CoolerExpress (order #cooler-express-45902). When I received it, I was dismayed to discover two shortcomings:

The drive case has numerous scratches and scuff marks on it. In particular, the area on the front of the case around the LED, which is the part everyone sees, is very unsightly.

The enclosure box claims there should be an enclosed manual, but no manual was included.

I wrote to request an "RMA-Shipping to be paid by adressee" so that I might return this order for a refund. Since the item was defective and incomplete, I believe they should have had no problem paying for return shipping as well as waiving any restocking fee.

Cooler Express responded stating that not only would I be required to pay shipping to return this defective piece, I would also be assessed a 15% restocking fee.

I am disappointed that Cooler Express would ship me a blemished product without a manual, but even more disappointed that they would not correct the problem without incurring more cost to me.

"The items arrived very quickly, however they were in the box without adequate packing. The drive's box was crammed diagonally over the DVD-R spindle. No packing peanuts or anything. The drive's box had its own Styrofoam, and the disks were not damaged. The drive enclosure's face plate was hanging off, and the activity LED was no longer attached. Fortunately this was a simple matter to fix, but it shouldn't have happened at all. The only reason I'm not furious is that the product is fantastic, and was a very good deal."
