"Ordered the hard drive cable for my old MacBook Pro. I had consulted with Apple a few years ago when suddenly a flashing file folder with a question mark was the only thing on my screen. They told me that means my hard drive was physically damaged and there was no hope. I stored it away because they told me there was no way to recover anything from it either. Bought a new MacBook Pro. Now, 3 years later, did some research to discover that the particular MacBook I had was susceptible to this cable issue, I immediately took the computer apart to get my cable's serial number and searched where to order one from. As far as I could tell, iFixit had the absolute best reviews, so I took a chance for about $40 and ordered my hard drive cable. About a week later, it arrived, I installed it... and magically & miraculously, my laptop turned on and picked up right from where I left off when it "crashed" three years ago! I was so excited I couldn't believe it. It took some doing to recover my iPhoto files, but after a day dedicated to fixing everything, I managed to back up all of my files, photos, videos, etc. Now I've got two laptops. I can't thank you enough - what a wonderful service you provide... thank you!!!!!!!"
"Ordering was easy. Delivery was on time. The repair went very smoothly and everything works. What more could I ask for?"
"The battery works great and is a perfect fit. The supplied tools were necessary. Thanx! "
"Very Frustrated spent 200.00 on a new screens for my watch 2.5 hours putting it on only to see the touch doesn’t even work and it won’t regulus to the watch so destroyed a 400.00 Watch, should have just spent the extra hundred and bought a whole new watch very very angry. "
"From the user friendly website to the detailed repair instructions, iFixit is hands down the way to go. I have done three repairs on different devices and they are still running seamlessly. I have recommended iFixit to anyone who will listen! "
"Ordered the Memory Maxx ram upgrade kit from iFixit. Upgraded my iMac from 8GB to 32GB Ram. It's not an easy install, but if you can change a plug you can accomplish this as long as you follow the guide and take your time. iFixit also sell just the Ram on its own, but I would recommend buying the full kit which includes all the essential tools needed to upgrade. If you use your Mac for intense work or with demanding programs then this upgrade is the way to go. Very happy with the positive effect it now has on my iMac. Thanks iFixit for a great product at the very reasonable price. "
"I acquired a "GripStick Headphone Plug Extraction Tool" to remove the tip of headphone jack tip. It appeared to be a cheap rolled aluminum piece with a ring! With shipping it was $29.99. It did not work and the company refused to authorize its return. I strongly recommend not to purchase this item. Frye's has a similar piece, without the ring, for less that $5 and it is as bad! Buyer beware."
"I ordered 4 iPhone 6 replacement batteries for our families phones. I have installed 3 of the 4 over the past few months and all of the phones that have the new batteries are running slower and seeing the batteries run down faster than the ones we replaced. In addition, the phones get too hot to touch after a few minutes of web surfing. I thought we would save a couple of bucks versus taking the phones to the Apple store, but now I regret that decision."
"I applaud iFixIt for their guides and commitment to the repair community as a whole. Their Apple after market screen for the iPhone 7+ was far from the original in my case. I followed their excellent guide to the T and experienced multiple issues with the screen.
EDIT: iFixIt reached back out to me and offered a 50% refund. Seemed fair to me.
Lower quality color performance. Touch glitches including unusable force touch and bad swipe action from the edges of the screen.
They gave some troubleshooting tips, admittedly I did not follow every step. I did not want to take the phone apart again as I was confident enough that I made good connections with the new screen ribbon cables. They offered a money back return, but my old screen is gone and in light of the issues I went ahead and bought another phone on eBay as I require a good phone for work. I'll sell my now crappy one on eBay as is.
After telling them my plan to sell the old one and cut my losses I get a response back saying "Sounds like a plan!". Tom was obviously more happy about my plan than I was. At my company we would have met somewhere in the middle, but I suppose they aren't my company.
Bottom line, the screens are not top quality and are still quite expensive when compared to Apple's guaranteed replacement for a little more $$... with OEM parts too that work. Take it to Apple and save the trouble and sub-par off brand hardware."
"Their crowd-sourced guides are OK and mostly just take advantage of the community. Their products are OK quality and are not as good as some of the similar sites. Above all, their customer service and deceptive shipping practices are complete trash. "
"I recently had an issue with the keyboard on my 2013 MacBook Air and ordered a new upper case assembly with keyboard from ifixit. The new part arrived and I immediately noticed that there was a problem with the keyboard (4 button stuck in the depressed condition). I freed up the 4 button and installed the part. By the time I was done I noticed that the backlighting was not working well and the return key took a few presses before it would function. Tom Gantt from customer support followed up on my order and contacted me to see if everything was proceeding smoothly. I then told Tom about the problem I was experiencing with the new part and he had a replacement on its way immediately. I was impressed by the follow-up and very quick resolution to my issue. I got the new part within two days and replaced the defective part that I had installed. The replacement part Tom had sent to me worked perfectly and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with ifixit. I will be going to them whenever I have issues with my Macs...."
"Battery I got from Ifixit has no holding capacity. Went dead in 6 hours"
"Battery is expanded in size with in few weeks. "
"Sent me a faulty product. This is hardly my first fix. I have fixed MacBooks, iPhones, etc. I purchased an iPhone 6 screen. After providing proof through photos that the product (and I switched my original screen back and forth with their new screen multiple times, each time my screen worked and theirs did not) they issued me a return for the full amount. After sending the product back, I received 5.00 less than I should have, their reasons being that the product tested working on their end.
They did not provide proof of this.
Save yourself the money, you would be better off buying from amazon or eBay where they actually publish legit reviews about how their products work."
"The first battery failed after 2 weeks. Worked one day, then plugged in for charge over night. When I pressed the home button, nothing. All attempts, including Apple customer support, the phone was dead. I contacted iFixit, had to jump through hoops but to their credit they did send a new battery. Followed install directions to a tee. Ran battery down below 10% as per directions.. after two weeks the battery only gives me 125 hours standby time (down to 3%) which is exactly half of what Apple claims for standby time. I have not used the phone for any of the other normal usages since I needed a phone after the first battery quit and bought a new iPhone7 (nice phone) so I do not have any stats for normal usage. "
