I used the method mentioned in some videos where you do steps 1-4 to access the insides, skipped 5-33 where all the other parts are disconnected, and picked up on step 34 where the battery removal takes place. "First, the feature of identifying your computer's exact model on iFixit's website is awesome. It really feels like this company is trying to make it easy for you to feel like you have the power to do maintenance on your machine when everything (and everyone) else tells you that you don't. iFixit's guides are comprehensive and beautiful (for a MacBook, anyway). The community feedback feature is awesome as well - it allows for clarification in areas that are a little ambiguous. Although the guides are sufficient on their own and I think the repair would have gone smoothly even without this feature, it certainly provided comfort that I was on the right track whenever I had questions.

I got everything open, torn-down, replaced and closed within the span of an hour. For such a complicated procedure, I'm massively impressed with how well it all went.

"The chemical they provide to remove this GLUED in battery worked fantastic. You just have to be patient and take your time. There are 4 separate parts to the battery glued down. Each part takes about two or three squirts of the chemical waiting a couple of minutes between each squirt and then gently prying up on that part between each squirt using the plastic tools they provide in the kit. It went much smoother than I thought it would and didn't really take that long.

When we turned the computer on after replacing the battery, the computer did not see the battery. iFixit took us through a bunch of software possible fixes, but no go. iFixit's communication via eMail was top-notch. However, the day before trying the software fixes we had made an appointment with Apple so off we went to the appointment.

The Apple tech had the computer up and running within 15 minutes or less. The problem was what I suspected it might be since the replacement process went pretty smoothly. This particular model Macbook has a tricky connection from the battery to the main circuit board through a chip called the "Interposer" chip. It is easy to put it back together, but then not quite get things seated just right and so the result is no connection. That's what had happened, we didn't get the "Interposer" seated right with the two screws around.

Apple's charge to check out our Macbook thoroughly, then run a bunch of diagnostics, as well as fix the problem was done for FREE! So I went from depressed to elated in a split second knowing my $100 was well spent. I think iFixt's web guide was very well done. However, I was able to easily replace this battery without taking the speakers completely out. You can just gently push them out of the way. I figured the less connections I removed the less troubles I'd have.

I will definitely have no problems in the future going to iFixt for a less expensive repair.

The brand new display assembly has a spot a bit smaller than a dime that is dim. I've experienced these types of dim circles on LCD TVs and displays, but I'm fairly disappointed that a new display assembly would arrive like this.

I actually installed the new display over a month after ordering it, so I'm certain there's no chance of swapping it out and I plan to live with it. I have had terrible experience with ifixit support in the past -- their phone number is useless, they will never answer and after 5+ voicemails for a human to return my call, I gave up. Not a company to buy from if you have high expectations from customer support. I personally don't trust sourcing components from ebay/aliexpress/etc so I will probably continue to let ifixit do the sourcing, even after a subpar component this time."
