There are many factors that can contribute to the cost of shipping your order. Generally, the heavier the item being shipped or the more boxes, the higher the shipping cost will be. Fragile items will require special packaging and additional materials to provide protection against damage while in transit and this will also increase the weight of your shipment.
Weight is not the only consideration in determining how much it will cost to get your promotional products to you. Some items like tote bags are not particularly heavy, but they are often packaged in large boxes that take up a lot of space on a truck. In this case, freight carriers like UPS and FedEx will determine the shipping cost based on the dimensions of the packaging (a.k.a. "Dimensional Weight"), measured in cubic inches which is calculated as length x width x height and converted into pounds by dividing that number by 166.
Other determining factors for the cost of shipping include how fast you want to receive your order, the shipping method required to meet your delivery needs, and potential insurance charges. Shipping costs are also based on whether your package will be shipped to a business or residential location and the distance between your delivery address and the location of origin (We have production facilities all over the US).
There are of course cheaper shipping methods other than using UPS or FedEx...for example, the USPS. However, these other methods are not always trackable and rarely provide any kind of delivery guarantee.
We work very hard to negotiate the best shipping rates and we pass those savings on to you with the desired result to get your promotional items to you as fast and as inexpensively as possible.
