HIGH RISK OF FREEZING FUNDS WITH NO WAY TO CONTACT/DISPUTE - DO NOT USE
"Terrible - literally said no way to dispute a false claim resulting in lifetime ban and refused to follow up on releasing funds.
Only recourse is to get the press to do a story specifically about your case and they contact PayPal on your behalf."
"Ordered Samsung DDR3-1333 SODIMM 4GB Notebook Memory at the best price available in my searches. Received notification of shipment the same day, and had it in the laptop within the week.
Excellent overall experience. Thanks SuperBiz!"
"I purchased a Samsung OEM Travel Charger (Detachable W/ Micro USB Cable) ETA0U20JBEBSTD and a matching Samsung OEM car charger. Both products were VERY reasonable priced with VERY reasonable shipping charge. The USPS delivery confirmation number was sent in an email within a day, and the products arrived in a durable box at my home in NC (from PA) within a few days. EXCELLENT OVERALL EXPERIENCE!"
"Sending my mother items she did not order. Now have to pay shipping to return the item. Hoping they don't charge my credit card. PHONE NUMBER GIVEN FOR CONTACTING THEM BURIED THREE LEVELS DEEP IN WEBSITE - ONLY INTERNET/EMAIL SUPPORT ON PRIMARY PAGES!
United States: 1-***-***-****
Canada: 1-***-***-****"
"STAY AWAY! Immediately noticed call quality issues even when no other internet activity was going on. Call-in echo that was NEVER there when previous AT&T phone service. Decided to give them a chance because price was so good. Followed Vonage tech bulletins to point of just having cordless phone plugged directly into Vonage box. Echo never went away. Calls from NC to NY were often 'no lines available' and when could get through just acceptable quality but frequently degraded and dropped. About 2-3 weeks ago it became almost impossible to even get NY. Cost $130 to drop service because I was 1 week away from 1 year. STAY AWAY - TECH SUPPORT IS USUALLY FOREIGN SPEAKING AND OFTEN USELESS!"
"Bought Motorola "MotoRoKR" S9 Stereo Bluetooth Headset
++POSITIVES++:
+ Received email communication when shipped including tracking number.
+ Product received in great working condition.
+ Excellent price.
--NEGATIVES--:
- Over 72 hours before I received a shipping notice (vendor claimed laptop quit).
- Website advertises "Super fast 2-3 day USPS Priority Shipping!" but my product was sent First Class mail.
- Vendor is in Florida according to website, but product shipped from Brooklyn NY?!
- Product not in any kind of official Motorola packaging, so how can one distinguish from a refurbished or open-box product? (website states new bulk, but seems like should still use a Motorola-labeled bag vs plain ziploc bag)
- Manual not included despite website saying it was. Had to download from vendor website.
Overall, still very satisfied but a little concerned as I did not have to rely on customer service, and I fear it may be less than satisfactory."
"Ordered my product WITH FREE SHIPPING in the morning, and by afternoon I get an email asking me to call them to confirm the order.
All this was merely some scheme to try and up-sell about 5 other accessories I did not want or need.
By the end of the call, the person tried to SNEAK BY the fact that he was adding HANDLING AND INSURANCE charges of nearly $15 to my order.
I asked him to cancel the order immediately and explained this was bordering on fraud.
>>>>!!!!! BUYER BEWARE !!!!!<<<<
I only hope they truly DO cancel the order, so I don't have to bring legal action against them."
"Here's my experience time-line:
===============================
OCTOBER 14, 2007: Received my new account package via email
OCTOBER 18, 2007: Mailed off my package of Lexmark Cartridges (7x82, 8x83 and 1x88) for total of $24.30 per purchase listing of that day (NC to CA shipment)
NOVEMBER 13, 2007: No communication from FreeRecycling, no PayPal payment rcvd, I submit a Customer Service inquiry
NOVEMBER 14, 2007: Quickly receive response email from FreeRecycling's top gal "Processed, statement issued amount of PayPal transfer $ 24.30 by tomorrow morning!"
NOVEMBER 16, 2007: PayPal payment not recived - it is now 2 days late - I email back to let her know.
NO RESPONSE FROM FREERECYCLING!
DECEMBER 6, 2007: 3+ weeks later, no response or payment, I email again
DECEMBER 11, 2007: Still no response or payment, I decide I must warn others regarding my experience
** UPDATES! (1/28/2008) **
JANUARY 15, 2008: Receive letter with statement showing receipt of my $24.30 of cartridges on 11/7 last year, still no payment received over two months later.
JANUARY 22, 2008: Receive another letter pitching their business, and asking me to verify my account details, still no payment.
JANUARY 28, 2008: Finally - PAYMENT! An email arrived from PayPal saying I had to accept a payment from FreeRecycling.Com. PayPal took a $1 fee, so maybe it would be better to have opted for a check. But anyway - I was FINALLY paid, but it took them over TWO FULL MONTHS!
Use extreme caution, and spring the $0.50 for package tracking otherwise you have no recourse. Might wish to avoid FreeRecycling issues (VERY slow to pay!) and get the free ream of paper (per cartridge) from Office Depot instead."
"I have been making purchases at NewEgg.Com for many years now, as they always seem to go the extra mile in their pricing strategy.
This morning, I goofed up and forgot to do a "COMBO SPECIAL" on my video card which would have given me a DVI-TO-HDMI adapter free.
I called and spoke with a representative who immediately noticed I had used PayPal on my order, so she could not alter it. She graciously made an "exception" order for me so I could get the complimentary adapter as I had originally intended.
Thanks NewEgg - you have always been a GREAT e-tailer and this morning's purchases have been no expection!!"

From the Magna Fortis Order Confirmation email:
"Please allow 10 business days for production during off-peak periods, and 15 business days for production during peak periods. Tracking information will be sent once the order is shipped."
Of course, I was immediately drawn to the blatant fact that "peak periods" is left undefined - very convenient for Magna Fortis.
It is now February 1 2007 - nearly TWENTY(20) business days later, and Fedex has still not been provided a package that Magna Fortis claimed was ready for them to ship on January 26th.
Again, how CONVENIENT that the package data was presented to FedEx right on the 15th business day, but when FedEx is there to get the package, it is not available. I guess they fibbed a bit saying the tracking information was sent when it is SHIPPED, because mine is not shipped yet!
And to add insult to injury, a fellow classmate called Magna Fortis and inquired on his order that was placed only a day before mine (same exact thing I ordered), and he was told that if he paid $40+ extra shipping dollars, they could magically overcome the production delays and send his product out right away.
WORD OF WARNING - it appears "peak period" is every day of the year so expect a minimum of 15 business days before shipment regardless of when you order.
ALSO - expect a lame excuse from customer service (they are rude too) when you call to inquire why the shipping notification is sent, but they can't seem to provide an actual package to FedEx.
ADVICE - try another vendor if you want the product in your hands in a reasonable amount of time. If you've got all the time in the world, this company MAY fit your schedule."

"My Area-51 Extreme (6/22/04 $4,477) is the most expensive computer I've ever bought. My Alienware experience started out badly when it took them 4 months to deliver.
Finally I get it and:
Probelm #1: The Creative Audigy external hub has no power. I call Alienware support & get someone with a difficult heavy accent who wants me to uninstall & reinstall drivers. A person who knows NOTHING about computers in this situation would have taken this advice and started messing up their PC. Well I doubted drivers had anything to do with providing power to a hub so I abandon the call & find the install diagrams for the sound card. The diagram shows a seperate power supply feed is supposed to go to the sound card. I find the wire still in the bag of accessories from Alienware - never installed. I had to open the PC case & plug in the wires - not a job for a novice. I later find the support rep (later identified as a supervisor!) logged my issue on the website as "Sound fails in certain applications. (<Tech Rep Name>) 10/18/04 - Speakers are not connected properly.". HUH?!
Then, over the following weeks:
Problems #2: I start getting File I/O errors. I had to do a full CHKDSK on reboot several times and it marked off bad clusters each time. Eventually the PC stopped having these problems.
Later I realize that I ordered software called Alien Adrenaline and it wasn't anywhere to be found.
Problem #3: No Alien Adrenaline software. I logged an issue via the Alienware website on 10/30/04. My issue sat unanswered for over a month. Finally I just call Alienware Support (another difiicult heavy accent) and the software was provided to me, but not before I was hung up on. The log of the support call on Alienware's web site was again imprecise: "Response (<Tech Rep Name>) 11/29/2004 - Answered various questions that the customer had." I said I needed the missing Alien Adrenaline software - no questions! Later I find this is actually shareware called PowerStrip from http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm .
All is going smoothly again, and then BOOM!
Problem #4: Suddenly my PC starts running incredibly slow! I reboot & get this dialog: "Windows File Protection- Critical system files have been changed. Please insert Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD to restore the correct files." Well that's odd. I hadn't installed software/hardware for quite a while. I used another PC to get info & here's what I found:
"WINDOWS FILE PROTECTION- Protects core system files from being overwritten. If a file is overwritten, Windows File Protection will restore the correct version."
Cool - All I need is my Windows XP CD and it will restore the original files! A search of all my Alienware accessories shows they didn't give me the Windows XP CD. I have a System Restore disc with a warning (paraphrasing) "If you insert this CD, it will repartition & reformat the C: drive. Have everything backed up or you will lose it!" I call Alienware Support hoping they can get me the missing XP CD. The Alienware Support rep (another difficult heavy accent) says Microsoft & Alienware have an agreement stating they won't give the CD to customers. Fine (LAME though), send out a technician who has this XP Pro SP2 CD and let's get this fixed. Oh NO! They want me to roll back my registry, go into SAFE mode, and try the killer RESTORE disc, all which cause loss of data and software. Support says they simply won't send me a CD or send a technician. The root of the problem is they supplied a restore CD which does not restore the same image used to build your PC - therefore worthless for 1) adding OS options like Internet Information Server and 2) Windows File Protection. The restore is not even an SP2 XP Pro image. What utter BS!
Looks like I'm fixing my own problem yet again for the fourth time (Customer 4, Alienware 0).
Summary - I spend $4500 on a PC, wait 4 months for the PC, it arrives with an issue I must fix on my own, then Hard Drive failures I fix on my own, then missing shareware software, and lastly I get OS/hard drive failures I must buy another XP Pro CD to fix due to Alienware shipping PCs without a proper XP CD. When should I start feeling happy with my Alienware Support experience?
UPDATE 12/27/04 Alienware Specialist assigned (thanks to this review).
UPDATE 1/28/05 EVEN MORE DISGUSTED! I'm sent a replacement hard drive with an accompanying letter saying I have ONLY 5 DAYS to replace it and send THEIR BAD ONE back or they will charge my credit card & NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN EVEN IF BAD DRIVE IS RECIEVED A DAY LATER! Folks, think twice about Alienware. They have some VERY CUSTOMER UNFRIENDLY ATTITUDES AND POLICIES! Only 5 days they give us after SPARING THEM the hassle of an onsite call. You would expect a little consideration after all the BS customers have gone through with THEIR defective parts! This is uncalled for & if Alienware wants to be like that they should be REQUIRED to WARN the customer up front! I ought to send the new HD back & force them to incur an onsite call if their gonna be such jerks about their stupid faulty hard drive!"
