Email service only offered on domain bought on 101domain

"It wasn't obvious that the different email plans were only offered to be associated only with a domain bought on 101domain.
I subscribed for a 1year plan then realised on the panel that I couldn't do much without owning a domain at 101domain.
Fortunately there's a great policy about refund. I couldn't imagine if I did the same mistake on 1and1... I only wished it was clearer that you have to already own a demain at the same place.

You actually can use our email service with any domain (does not have to be bought or hosted at 101domain.com). The email service just has to be using our DNS servers. In nerd translation, this means that your email records just have to point to 101domain so you can send and receive emails for your domain hosted someplace else. We can help you transition to our DNS servers without any downtime to your website.

We apologize for the confusion and we appreciate the feedback so we can find a way to make this clearer to other customers. However, we are pleased that you had a good experience with us nonetheless!

High costs, hidden fees

"Expensive domains and making changes to DNS names servers requires you to pay for them to make the changes after they approve it 2 to 3 days later. We've decided to not renew due to higher and hidden fees. "

“Hi there,

Unfortunately, the .gh Registry charges a fee for making DNS changes. With the exception of a few specific domain extensions like .gh, 101domain does not charge anything for changing DNS records or DNS servers. This fee is required by the .gh Registry and passed along to our customers.

This is not a hidden fee it is clearly stated on all .gh product pages, under “Are there any additional fees for .com.gh?” DNS update and Ownership update both require a fee of $30.

We understand that this is a frustrating fee to have to pay but it is not up to us. It is just a cost of working with country code domains like Ghana’s .gh domains. We do hope you have enjoyed your experience with us otherwise in light of this. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to win you back!

"I ordered a domain and email address, from day 1 this did not work and customer service does not respond and live chat never available once you’ve paid . Very poor and horrible. Stay away "

Did not like the harrassment!

"It was very annoying that I got e-mails over and over notifying me that my domain was about to expire. It actually started months before it was to expire and continued until I went ahead and renewed it. I don't need notifications three months in advance, and I damn sure don't need them on a daily bases. This was super annoying and It is massively disruptive to my practice. "

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Domain names are a very tricky product. We deal with a lot of domains that require manual registration, which is a longer process. This is why we begin notifying customers of impending domain expiration 120 days in advance. People also tend to ignore emails and get very upset when they lose their domains because they forgot to renew them and they expired.

We try very hard to find the balance of informing our customers of upcoming renewals without annoying them (like we did in your case). We sincerely apologize and will consider sending fewer emails for automated domain extensions such as your .law domain.
