The box was a little beat up by UPS, but the contents were just fine and arrived very quickly, and in time for our trip that I wanted this new camera for."

"This is an edit of my initial review. I ordered a product online thinking I would not have to deal with any upsell/gimmick. I received an email to contact them for additional information as order is on hold. When I called, an associate try to upsell. When I refused to purchase the "proprietary SD card", now he gets rude trying to intimidate me to a purchase. I told him to cancel the order and he refuses to cancel. Told him I am going to place a charge back on my credit card, he says there will be 20% restocking fee. 20% restocking fee on an item never shipped? I hang up while he still yells on the other line.
Within 15 minutes after posting negative comments online, I received a phone call from the same sales associate claiming misunderstanding and offers bunch of freebies to “make it right”. He was just as relentless trying to rectify the situation as he was trying to upsell. When I refused to deal him, I received an email from his supervisor. After a conversation and an apology from the supervisor, I purchased the product at a special “I’m sorry” price. Product was sent the next day and he diligently called to make sure things were good and asked when I was going to make the changes on the online comment. To date, the camera works fine even without the "proprietary SD card". Despite the rude upsell efforts of the sales associate, I think it is only fair to mention that the management at 42nd Street has done a solid job correcting the situation.
In summation, my advice is this… Know what you are buying, stand up for yourself and don’t get intimidated into any purchase. Internet offers a strong venue for people to share experiences and vendors understand its power.

"I purchased a canon s100 from 42nd street photo through their website for $340 because google search listed them as the lowest price and their rating score looked okay.
After I made my purchase online I got a phone call from 42nd street saying they were packing up my camera and wanted to know what battery I wanted. I wasn't near a computer and couldn't look anything up.
Adam said they have a 4 hour, 6 hour and 8 hour battery. That the canon battery only last 25 minutes so I need to buy a battery. He said that they were running a special and that if I buy a battery they will upgrade me to the next higher power battery. I was very hesitant since I couldn't look anything up but then he said he would throw in a screen protector kit, the rapid charger, and some retail starter kit. He said most people buy the 4 hour battery and if I bought with them I would actually be getting the 6 hour battery. He also said that it was only $59.99 and you couldn't beat this price, just like the camera.
I know I'm gullible and it's my own fault that I fell for this scam, but I didn't have a computer on hand to research and I did agree that their camera had the lowest price so I assumed that the battery would also be a low price. I've never had an online retailer call me to actually pull this kind of scam so it's a first and now last for me.
After I actually got to a computer I realized a battery only cost $15. Second of all, I don't actually need an extra battery for my canon. So end the end I spent an extra $60 more than I wanted to when I had wanted to spend as little as possible. Plus when I actually received the item, all I got was the screen protector and the extra battery. My camera box was also smashed in the front. Not sure if that means anything but I would prefer a nice shiny box for my nice new camera.
After reading all the yelp reviews I'm really uncertain about my camera. The camera seems new and I registered it with canon. But since they pulled the scam on me and since they are not an authorized dealer I have no way of knowing if its actually refurbished or not. I have had the camera for over 2 weeks now and love it, but I wish I had purchased it from B&H which had the camera for $360 and also an authorized dealer and has no bad yelp reviews of customers being scammed.
If I could I would give zero stars cause I would never purchase from them again and I don't even suggest you try even if you know your camera information. It's just not worth the grief or the possibility that you are't getting what you pay for when you start spending a couple hundred dollars.
Adding a follow up: I received a call from 42nd St Photo after posting this review. Frank from their customer service called and was very apologetic about my experience and he was willing to do anything to make my experience a happy one. I appreciate that 42nd St Photo actually reads reviews and cares, but I wish I never had gone through the experience of being scammed. So there was really nothing he could do to make me happy. He did offer that I keep the battery and they gave me a refund of the battery. He also said he made a note in the sales persons file. Just for the call back I updated the refund/exchange rating from NA to 4 stars and customer service from 1 start to 3 stars."
