"the service at 42nd st photo was great. I orede the camera and picked three day pick right away i got a call to pick the day of delivery. after a week of recieving it i got a call to make sure i am satisfied with my order. I ordered a canon 7d with a lens 18-135 IS i so happy with the product and i got it for a great price. "

"Before purchasing from this company PLEASE read the negative reviews.

I purchased an item online (Sunday), Monday afternoon I received a call stating I forgot to check if I wanted a signature required upon receipt of the package. I said yes. The person stated it was a good choice of camera and asked if it my first DSLR. I said yes. That was all he needed to try to sell me an SD card. "A regular SD card will not work with this camera, you need to buy a 500x one". I was instructed to go to Amazon and type in the type of card and look up the card on their website. Sure enough their price was lower AND I would get double the memory.

Shortly after the phone call, I did more research online (I had never heard of this "special" SD card). Sure enough, I had been duped, I did not need the card. TEN MINUTES later I called back, stating I wanted it removed from my order. I was forwarded to an answering machine, I left my contact information and was never called back (five days later and counting). I called back an hour later (6:40pm) stating I wanted to alter my order - sorry the item has shipped already. That was a lie, according to UPS, the order had not been picked up until 7:40pm. I wrote an email - still no response.

The order arrived at my door - no signature required even though I requested there was one. I called today and left a message, I refuse to pay to restock something I was conned into purchasing.

We will see how this story ends.

PROS - Good prices, seeming friendly sales people
CONS - DO YOUR RESEARCH (every negative comment mirrors my story, selling the uninformed consumer items they do NOT need), did not return my phone calls or email message.

UPDATE: Later that day I called back again and spoke to someone about the problem. They held steady with their claim that there was nothing they could do to avoid me paying the restocking fee. After seeing my post on this website, and me not giving up, they gave in and said I could return the item and be refunded my money (funny how things change). Shortly after that phone call I received another phone call by someone in their customer service department. He insisted I keep the card and be refunded the cost of the card in exchange for an updated review. They refunded my money, and this is my updated review.

One small issue: they can improve their shipping packaging. They sent me a small bottle of lens cleaner for free but it was broke so the whole box got socked wet...thou it didn't go into the actual camera.

"I purchased my new Panasonic DMC-ZS10 14.1 Megapixel Digital Camera (blue) online for $189 w/ free shipping. I thought this was a great deal considering I was trying to purchase a used one on E-bay for a little less, but decided after losing out on several bids to purchase a new camera instead from 42nd Street because of the price and free delivery. The camera is everything the posted online reviews had said. I'm satisfied with the camera and the delivery time. It arrived in two delivery days to my home and love the photo quality and zoom capability. Very efficient delivery service. I even received a complimentary 3-piece deluxe cleaning kit for the camera purchase that I was not expecting; however, I was not pleased with the customer sales agent that called me on the morning that he was packaging the camera for shipment.

He asked what kind of camera I had been using before. I told him that I had a Sony point and shoot. He immediately informed me that the SDHD multi-use card for the Sony would not be compatible with the new Panasonic, which I assumed was probably the case. I informed him that I just purchased (2) 32GB SDHC SD Flash Cards (class 10) from a vendor on Amazon.com for my new Panasonic camera for under $60. He told me that the cards that I had just purchased would not go with this camera and that he wanted me to purchase one Digital Speed 700X memory card for the camera for a price of $399. He was very persistent and wanted me to buy the card with the camera before he shipped the camera. He told me that the card would sell for $99 on this day (the shipping day) only because of the instant factory rebate and he recommended that I Google online the cost of the card and check for myself that he was not kidding. I hesitated because I felt like I was being suckered to purchase one HD memory card that I didn't need. He said once the camera box was closed, that he could not honor the instant rebate for the memory card (even if I was to call him back within 5 minutes after doing some initial searching online). In fact, I told him no and simply to send the camera w/out the high priced memory card. I received my Flash Cards from Amazon and my new Panasonic camera from 42nd Street on the same day and everything is working great. My intuition told me that he was trying to force me into buying something that I knew I didn't need.

Be careful of the pushy sales reps from this store if you are an online customer and you get a phone call at an unexpected time of day. This is the first time I've ever been called from a seller after completing an online transaction had been made from any website vendor. The sales rep thought that he could take advantage of a naive customer. Unfortunately for him, this Midwesterners was turned off immediately by his aggressive salesmanship and I will not shop here again. If the camera needed the Digital Speed memory card, it should have been advertised as an optional buy with the camera to inform the customer. This stores agressive sales tactic has the word "SCAM" written all over it where one gets a good deal, but then a product ends up costing you more in the end because of the accessory costs.

FOLLOW UP REVIEW (Friday, April 27, 2012): Do not give this company your phone number when ordering. It's all part of the SCAM. Continue to read other negative reviews about this company and like me, there are customers being called at odd hours of the day and being duped to purchase something that they don't want or need in addition to their original online purchase. It's the perfect sales tactic and it appears to have worked based on reading other reviews on this site.

I was asked to revise my initial review from the company after being called from a sale srep named Jonathan who wanted to make me "happy". After consulting with him over 45 minutes of my time, this company did own up to it's aggressive sales tactics and said that it was inappropriate for how the sales rep handled the situation. I reminded the company that the best form of advertising is done by word of mouth (i.e., online reviews) and cautioned them of their corporate culture of hussling the consumer. However, after the lengthy discussion, this company provided me a 3-year free warranty on my new camera worth $500 from the date of purchase, along with a new camera bag, a free Panasonic battery, and a 3-Pack LCD Screen Protectors for my new camera to update my initial review. Therefore, my review is edited to reflect this change from 1 to 3 with regards to customer service.

In the future, ask for Jonathan and you will be taken care of. Do not deal with anyone else. If you feel you are hustled or mistreated, write a negative review on this site and it will get immediate attention by Jonathan, who is not located in NYC (their main shipping warehouse) by the way, but at the Virginia Beach call center. Bottom line: Customer reviews are VERY important when making a purchase from this company.

"It's true: this place is a TOTAL SCAM. I knew it was too good to be true.

When I saw the low price of the brand new Nikon D7000, I couldn't help but making the purchase. I got the confirmation email, but the order status never changed from "Being Picked". 2 days later, I got a call from one of their reps, asking whether I wanted any protection plan. I told him no, as I'd be happy with Nikon's 1-year manufacturer warranty. The guy said no, it only comes with a 30-day warranty, as this is an import model. NOWHERE does it say on their website that this was an import model. I guess that's why the price was low. I told the guy I no longer wanted the camera from them, and that I wanted to cancel my order.

If it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Stay away from these guys.

"I've been researching and saving for my dslr for about a year now, and I recently 'clicked the shutter' on my Canon 7D with two L series lenses from 42nd Street Photo.

I checked all the online sites as well as the big box stores, but I kept coming back to 42Photo.com as they seemed to have the best prices and the best website for quickly checking prices and features.

When the time came I thought I had found a slightly better deal, and started to order there, but luckily I received a call to verify the large order and discovered that I was getting grey market goods, without the warranty from Canon USA. When I checked the prices for the USA products, it was more than my budget. I might have continued with the purchase if it wasn't for the fact that the imports weren't really apparent from the web site. I hate that business philosophy and cancelled my order, and went right over to 42Photo and did my business with them.

The ordering went smoothly, the USA models were easily identified. I got a confirmation call the next day, and a tracking number when it shipped. All in all, it was exactly the kind of service we all hope for. It shipped quickly, was professionally packaged, and arrived in perfect order!
