"I recently ordered a textbook for a class... it was supposed to be in new condition, but it arrived with the cover torn half way off. I notified amazon and not only did they have a replacement sent to me via UPS overnight (for free), but they wound up refunding my money too!

I usually only come on these review sites to warn others after having a horrible experience with a merchant, but I just had to take the time to write a positive review because well, they deserve it. After hundreds of orders with Amazon over the past 4 years, I can't recall a single time they didn't make things right when I had a problem, and for that they should be applauded. "FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! I ordered 3 GPS units for my grandmother so she could give them away as presents. She gave away two of them but realized that her third child already had a similar unit. She asked me about returning the third GPS, but the 30 days had passed. I called Amazon and asked how much they would charge me to return the unit based on the expiration of the return period. Natalie, my customer support representative said she would follow the package and assuming it arrived in new condition give me a full refund. She even offered to send me a shipping label to pay for return shipping. That is way beyond my expectations. AMAZING customer service! "No complaint about Amazon as a buyer, but from a seller's perspective they have been particularly unhelpful by issuing refunds to buyers who refuse to return merchandise. Amazon is in the best position to help achieve a resolution, since individual sellers have little leverage to demand a return, especially when an out-of-state buyer in involved. Although it pains me to say this, Amazon pales next to eBay/PayPal's more equitable claim resolution. BBB intervention was useless, so let the seller beware."

"A few years back, I had some problems with orders that were placed through Amazon, and the really bad part is that the same issue happened three times in a row with three different orders. Their customer service was of no help at all, and they acted like the whole thing was no big deal, and perhaps for them it wasn't. Anyway, I decided right then that I'd never shop there again, but one day they had something in stock that I wanted and they had it for a very good price, so I decided to give them another chance.

Fortunately, that order went well and all the orders placed with them since then have gone very well, so I'm going to give them a good rating based on the most recent experiences and not those from years ago. The rating here can always be adjusted if they should revert to their older non-caring behavior.

"I love Amazon. For the past 8 years I've been purchasing from them, I have had to make only 1 return and it was handled very quick and to my satisfaction. Good prices and you can check the reviews of your product before you purchase. "

"I order from Amazon at least 3-4 times a month. They have everything in the world, and their Prime program ($79 gets you free 2-day shipping for a year) is one of the best ideas ever. Things that I used to search through several local stores to find are now one click away, and I usually get them in less time than it would take me to get to all those stores, and almost always for less money. Amazon is now my default store for most items.

Returns are a breeze - if there's actually something wrong with the item, they'll provide you with a shipping label that you print, tape to the box, and stick outside for the mailman. I've never had an easier return from an online store - no calling and having to beg an employee for an RMA number, etc.

The only thing to watch for is items that are sold by compaies other than Amazon. While many of these companies are great, they all have their own return policy, their own customer service, etc. So if you buy from a 3rd party through Amazon, you need to check the ratings of that company as well (which Amazon provides)."

I appreciate the variety of products and the access to often detailed customer responses about them. Also the Prime shipping is a good deal for my wife and me.
