"I've ordered two or three hundred times from amazon over the past ten plus years and they have consistently met my expectations. I'm very surprised to see their relatively low rating here, and while I'm sure most of the people complaining have legitimate beefs with amazon, I figure that it never occurs to many of amazon's regular customers (like me) to rate them here.

The only times I have ever had an issue with them was when I was ordering something they did not have in stock for immediate shipment, and then occasionally, they'll take longer than estimated or even cancel orders. (Other times, a delayed item comes sooner than estimated. You can always cancel any order that has been back ordered, as long as it hasn't shipped, without penalty.) But it can be risky to order something not available for immediate shipment. So in that situation, always check, and if you want it fast, order elsewhere. Frequent amazon fliers should do the math and see if Prime membership is worth the fee, as you can save a lot of money and get your Prime-eligible items superfast and very reliably. (Many items, especially heavy items, are not eligible for the Prime deal, and it still pays to comparison shop, as sometimes you get a better deal elsewhere even with shipping.) Nonetheless, I remain a huge fan of amazon.com

"I am very satisified with the price I paid for a Sony DSC-W80 digital camera, memory stick and case. After much searching, Amazon had the lowest prices, while still being reputable.

The products arrived intact and whole, and have had no issues in the past two months since.

The only gripe I have is the slow delivery. I did choose the free shipping, and Amazon did state that it would take two weeks, so I am only complaining because I'm impatient. It took all of two weeks and a day for the camera to arrive.

"Just want to report my latest experience with Amazon, which I thought was going downhill with their shopping services. Well, not this time...

Ordered a digital camera on 8/30/07, and based on past experience, I told myself I should expect to see this camera sometime around the week of 9/10. I was surprised to receive a shipping confirmation the next day, and bigger surprise to actually able to hold the camera with my hand on 9/1. I can't be any happier with Amazon this time.

But, on 9/2, I found Amazon dropped the price of the camera. I emailed customer services and ask if they'll match their own price, even if they already shipped the product to me. I got a reply a few hours later and was told that they refunded the difference. kudos to Amazon for such a huge improvement in their services. I will definitely do business with them more often in the future.

Great job, Amazon!!

"My first major purchase with Amazon and what a disaster. I ordered a 47” LCD television and received an email that my 42” television was on backorder. I immediately called Amazon and they told me not to worry that the generated message was probably wrong. Yea Right!! I checked with the vendor’s site to confirm my order. Yep! I paid for a 47” LCD television but the shipping invoice was a different model with a 42” screen. Furious, I called Amazon again, they said that the product is not Amazon merchandise so I will have to deal with the vendor. Absolutely no support from Amazon and I am currently out $1500!! Amazon a day later after my purchase sells this Toshiba TV as Amazon merchandise and they still won’t help me. Ouch! Talk about insult to injury!!"

"I tried to cancel this order before it was shipped. Customer service said I couldn't because the order went to their "fulfillment center" and could not be stopped. The order has not yet shipped, and yet is impossible to stop.
WTF! I've never heard a more ridiculous excuse.

I've had countless orders canceled by amazon without notice, and now the one small order I have I can't even cancel!

This is going to be the last purchase amazon ever gets from me.

"I love Amazon.com! When I need to buy something online. I immediately check if amazon.com has it first. I dont shop around for prices, I just order directly from them. Everything from ordering, shipping and even returning is painless with them. I'm a amazon prime member, everything is shipped and delivered exactly when promised. I don't order from other merchants on amazon.com though, i'm somehow skeptical of them. Anyways, I love amazon.com!"

"I ordered through Amazon an Mastercool infrared thermometer MAS52226-A-SP at a very attractive price. The merchant providing the item was HandsOnTools. On 8/10/07 Amazon confirmed the order; on 8/13 HandsOnTools confirmed order. On 8/17 Amazon notified me that the merchant was not going to ship, because it was out of stock. The merchant however, shortly thereafter started advertising the item for a much higher price.
Amazon states that they frown on this practice, and furnish other platitudes, but no other satisfaction. Basically a customer can not back out of an order, but a merchant can. I will think twice before doing business with Amazon.

"I ordered a Garmin Forerunner 305 and received it the next day using std shipping (warehouse happened to be in my town). Product was defective so I went through the process on the website to exchange it. Amazon paid return shipping, had the shipper pick it up, and shipped out my replacement immediately (even without having received the defective unit). New unit works just fine, although Amazon's packaging was less-than-stellar (the Garmin box was serious squashed, but product was not damaged, fortunately)."

"So I guess Amazon.com has a policy of requiring a signature on delivery for orders over $420. This is terrible because many people cannot just stay home for a day to receive a package, especially when the arrival time is not specified. I've ordered from other companies that do not require a signature on these packages. This means I'll not be ordering packages over $420 from Amazon.com anymore.
Thanks for causing such an inconvenience. Somebody needs to wake up and realize if people can't GET THEIR PACKAGES THEY WON'T SHOP WITH YOU ANYMORE. Dummies.

"I was extremely irate with amazon with my last purchuse. I'm a photographer and needed a flash by a certain date; when the falsh arrived it was for the wrong type of camera even though the invoice and the reciept and everything but the actual flash said it was for my brand camera and when I called amazon to get it straightened out they completely questioned me about it!! And here the lady didn't even no what "So." in my address meant. Ridiculous. They can't ship it any faster than ground and I'll have to wait another 2 weeks aproximate delivery from the location it's at. No other shipping options. I will recieve the flash a whole month after I ordered it. And have to go through the hassle of returning the initial incorrect item. I'm still irritated. Last Time ever for amazon! "

"I have been shopping at Amazon.com for over 5 YEARS now. My experience with them has been nothing but total customer satisfaction. When I order, they ship the product out to me immediately. If it is out of stock, they let me know ever before I click the "order" button. I have lost count at how many times I have ordered from them. I have ordered everything from books, DVDs, music CDs, video games, computer software, blank CDs, video game accessories, you name it! One time, a tape that I purchased had a defect in it (mostly my fault, since I let my tape player eat it up). I requested for a replacement and after returning the defective tape set, they sent me a new one FREE OF CHARGE! There was also a time when I ordered a computer game with a rebate, but no rebate slip was with the game, neither was it available to download on their website. I immediately emailed them and they sent me the rebate card FREE OF CHARGE through snail mail. The people there were very friendly to me.

I love Amazon.com. I've been shopping with them for over 5 years and I believe those years will continue to grow. They are the biggest online retailer and they know how to do business with the customers they love. 5 out of 5 stars!
