Double checked the estimated processing times as I needed a book for my child's school reading club. Ordered the book on Thursday, and was sent a confirmation that it should have arrived on Tuesday - it didn't arrive until THURSDAY afternoon, by which time I had gone to a local book store and paid for a second book so my son would have it for class :("

Their website is clunky, labyrinthine, and they use an antiquated shipping address system that takes forever to get your own home address right.

Meanwhile, getting an order shipped from BN.com is a lot like roulette. Don't want the nice two-day shipping from UPS like Amazon gives you? Try going through DHL, an infamously horrid carrier that is so broke they'll just pawn your package off to USPS, adding days to your shipping time and muddying the waters on who holds responsibility when, inevitably, your books finally arrive and you find that they've been heavily damaged during shipping. If you need to buy books online, try either going through the publisher's site directly (especially if they're a small press), or tried and true Amazon."

"I shopped online for a Mothers Day present for my Mom. I ordered a tote and another item for her. The tote was advertised to be on sale for $4.95. It showed the discount being deducted from the total in the shopping cart. When I checked out it never showed me an itemized view of the total. After paying and receiving the email confirmation and receipt I noticed I had not in fact received the discount. When I went to the online chat help provided by the company I was disconnected by their staff three different time for inactivity before I was final able to receive help. When I was helped the answer I received was that they had determined that gift cards were not an eligible purchase for the discount on the tote bag. When I explained that it had shown up in the shopping cart as applying the discount the gentleman acknowledged that it originally did but was removed after I had entered in the payment phase. What!!!

It was only a $3 discount but I would not have ordered it otherwise. Besides I do not appreciate my totals being added to after the payment process has started. "

"Worst customer service ever. Paid for order with gift cards and credit card to cover 90 cents over the gift card amount. BN cancelled one of my items saying that it wasn't available even though it is still being offered on their site, and charged the remaining order to my credit card. After 4 phone calls and being on hold for over a combined 2 hours, my gift cards were recredited but I was told nothing could be done concerning the credit card charge since the items were already shipped. This constitutes theft by an unauthorized charge on my credit card. Very disappointed and WILL NOT be renewing my BN membership."

"I'm very upset with how customer service has handled my order. My order was placed late Tuesday night and I noticed I forgot an important detail to the recipients info. after submitting payment. When I called Customer Service first thing I was informed that a message would be put through to the shipping facility and I would receive and email of confirmation. So I'm thinking Great. No, I NEVER received the email stating if my changes were able to be made. I was only notified that the order was being shipped and delivered by Friday. I freaked out because here I am not knowing whether the correct person will be receiving the book and so I sent an email with my concerns and also tried the online chat thinking I would be helped faster. Only to receive a message stating my conversation had timed out. RIDICULOUS if you ask me. I did receive a response to the email I had sent requesting me to include more info other then my tracking #. Frankly by then I was already annoyed and contacted the recipient facility myself to make sure the correct person received the order. Needless to say I will stick to Only going to this store and NOT shopping their online site."

"Ordered two books, one my kid ordered with his own allowance. Shipped only one (not the kids book). No email about cancellation. Did online chat, offered me 5 bucks. The book was STILL listed as available when I was chatting but rep told me they did not have it. I only ordered the 2nd book to get free shipping (it cost more than at other sites). Book STILL showing as available on the site four days after they cancelled (which I only found out about when only one book showed up)."

"My credit card was charged a penny from this company and it claims it was for a downloaded book from his nook. The nook has been broken for a long time and could not possibly be downloading. They have a security breach of their credit card system. Someone checking to see if the card is any good and refuse to do anything about it. I am suppose to just suck it up."

"I ordered a book as a gift through B&N Marketplace. I am so disappointed! Although it was sold as 'new' the book is - VERY obviously - used. The edges are frayed, and the book is separating from the cover, which is faded. It is a favorite children's book - meant for a new mother. I am going to keep it, since it is in better shape than my own tattered copy, but can't possibly give it as a gift. I will never buy through the marketplace again. :( "
