Endless hours in B and N. it's just lovely to pick out some books from their vast collection, and sit down in one of their comfortable chairs by the window, or at a little desk, and read, research, take notes, etc. the atmosphere is very conducive for peaceful and undisturbed reading. "I purchase a Nook HD+ when there was a promotion that promised a $25 gift for me and my friend who made the referral. However, the gift cards were never sent out. I had to make numerous call to barnes and noble to claim my gift card, and ever time i was told to wait for 72 hours, and then no gift card was mailed. On my 5th call with barnes and noble now, still haven't got my gift card.
Will never make any purchase from barnes and noble again, and I would suggest anyone who doesn't want to deal with hassles to stay away from Barnes and Noble.
Definitely a disappointed customer."
"I use Barnes & Noble all the time. I cannot believe the bad reviews I am seeing on here. I have NEVER had a problem with them at all. I have returned items without hassle or incident as well as canceled orders before they were shipped with out any issue from them at all.
I am a member of their club, which I find is EXCELLENT, because I purchase enough from them over the year to make it worth my while and then some. It gives me unlimited free shipping on items sold from them (not the marketplace). It doesn't matter if the item is $1.00; it's still free ship.
Again, I am so surprised about the negative reviews. Between the great prices and the (for me) free shipping, I wouldn't get books (and a lot of other stuff too) anywhere else."
"I can't believe how many of the reviews on here are similar to my experience. I wish I would have read them before placing my order.
Very poor service. Do NOT expect your package to arrive on time. I paid for "expedited" shipping (1-2 days), and it is now the 4th day and still not here. I "chatted" with customer service and they said they show the "package is out for delivery"...yes, I can read that much via the tracking number. No resolution. No refund on shipping fee. They left it at "call back when you receive the shipment and we can look into refunding the shipping fee". I guess it doesn't matter that it's past the 1-2 day shipping time and that it was for a birthday that is now past. I would highly recommend not buying from B&N online and just pay the little bit more to get directly from the store.
UPDATE: I just talked to UPS. They said the sender did not send it expedited; they sent it ground (1-5 days). So basically B&N charged me for expedited then only paid for ground service from UPS. Somebody should turn them in for these delivery scams that it seems so many of us are dealing with. "
"I wanted to "gift" a Nook app advertised on the BN site at 50% off. After I filled out my information, though, I was informed that my credit card would be charged full price. I called BN Customer Service and was assured that the discount would be taken so I made the purchase. Then I received a receipt for the full price! I called again, but this time I was told "Not our fault, we don't write the copy, etc. etc." and the supervisor I finally spoke to made it clear that she was doing me a huge favor by canceling the order. I emailed a complaint and was told the "issue would be resolved in 2-3 days" but I didn't hear from them again. I followed up and got a standard reply about when their chat team was available online. (No thank you -- been there, done that, "cut 'n' paste" answers, very frustrating.) The policy seems to be "Just keep passing it on until the customer gives up." Shameful excuse for a QA department and probably the worst "Customer Service" I've ever experienced. Still waiting for the charge to be removed from my credit card, too."
"Gee,I sure wish I read the reviews for the online store before placing my order!! I ordered a book that I need within a few days and opted for express shipping. Much to my chagrin,the following morning I received an email apologizing for any inconvenience but it cannot be shipped as my order was delayed. I was then given a link to cancel the order,upon using this link I was notified that my order number and email was not recognized. I called the number and the nice lady said the same. I said well ma'am thats the number that was given to me? So she then found the order and said she could not guarantee that my order will be cancelled. That in itself striked as odd to me,as I have never been given such a response. A few minutes after hanging up I received an email stating that I could not cancel the order because it had already been shipped or in the process. All of this occuring pretty much over night as I placed the order yesterday and received the email this morning and immediately called them. My only option is to return the order given it does arrive to where it was shipped to. I will NEVER and I reiterate NEVER order from this site again they are horrible when it comes to customer satisfaction,and good,fair service. I feel as if Ive been scammed. I expected more from such a well known company. I have never left a bad review of any site I ordered from,even shadier sites but I do not wish for anyone to go through such a thing. Proceed with caution."
"Horrible experience! I ordered a textbook and purposely chose 1-3 express day delivery services so I could get it in time for classes. When I checked the status 4 days after ordering it, the status said "Processing", so naturally I contacted through the online chat. After being put on hold by multiple people, I finally got someone to tell me that the book was out of stock and that it would be a week until it could arrive at the least. No apology, no offer to make up for the inconvenience. Worst customer service experience I have had in a while! I am beyond frustrated and now have no reasonable way to complete my homework or participate in class fully."
"Well, I learned the real meaning of Buyer Beware today! Turns out that just because a store says Barnes and Noble on the outside doesn't mean it is on the inside. My wife bought a book at a store in Nashville that had Barnes and Noble on the outside and even the receipt had B&N on it. However, she needed to return one of the books and stopped in the store here near us in Hendersonville only to be told that she couldn't return it there. She was told that the Barnes and Noble in Nashville isn't really a Barnes and Noble store so the receipt couldn't be scanned so no return could be done."
"I placed an order 2 days ago, and was just now notified that my order was cancelled. I was given absolutely no explanation, no clue whatsoever. I contacted what passes for "Customer Service" in Barnes&Noble land, and had a "Live Chat" with a Customer representative who eventually told me that they could not obtain (word was misspelled) the item I had requested. I then asked whether it would become available in the future, and I was told to keep checking their website. I then told her that I ordered the book from their website, so they apparently have no idea if their books are in stock, or not. I ended our conversation and actually returned to their website, where the item I ordered was now being offered at a price reduction from what I was going to pay. I was naturally a bit annoyed and attempted to once again contact a Representative; I was denied access to any page on their site which facilitated a customer's ability to either "Live Chat" or Email the company. These Goof-Balls had blocked me!!! I will never, ever purchase as much as a paper clip from this band of disreputable book-hawkers. For a Company that lost $118.6 million last quarter, one would think they would try to be a bit more accommodating."
"I ordered a textbook for class online with 1-3 day shipping. I was informed that it shipped on Aug. 22. It is now Sept. 1st and is not here. I did the online chat with them and they could magically tell me that it was in Kentucky (DHL could not track it, how could they?) and that it would be here Sept. 3. So, 1-3 day shipping takes 11 days?! I needed this a week and a half ago! The guy I talked to says I can return it once it comes in. WTF!? I wanted to order it somewhere else but I knew it would take till the 3rd to get here anyway. Why would I return it if it finally comes in!?!?!?! I've read a LOT of reviews about DHL doing the same thing to others. Not being able to track the package....
In short: The guy I talked to did his job fine but I will NEVER order something that I need (and pay extra shipping for) right away. TERRIBLE! Amazon from now on. "
"Horribly unhelpful. I rented a book from Barnes and Noble, returned it and then a month later was charged $60 to purchase the book. I called and they basically said there is nothing they can do since I didn't have the tracking number anymore. They said I could resell the book; however, I don't even have the book, since I returned it a month ago. They can't access the shipping label either, which was apparently deleted from their website at some time... Seems odd to me. Thus, I am stuck paying for a book I don't have.... unless someone has a suggestion."
"I ordered two apps for my Nook Color. Yes, older version but apps store did not indicate they would not work for Nook Color. I was unable to download these apps. Tried all the tips off/on, archice/unarchive. Went to B&N and rep said it was a known problem and he could not fix it. He told me the help desk will go through all the steps and won't be able to fix it either. They are not putting the same support into Nook Color. Fine but it is not obvious which apps are not supported for Nook Color. Called B&N support went through the steps except unregister/reregister. Asked for refund. They told me they do not refund for apps but would make a one time exception. I expressed my concern that this is a known problem and they continue to sell apps that people cannot download. I asked to file a complaint. He gave me some round about answer and which did not answer how to file a complaint. I will no longer buy apps and some of my old apps have been updated and no longer can be down loaded."
