"Wonderful book store for browsing and help. Courteous, plentiful attention always available. Nice discounts of bestsellers. Huge selection for those of us who enjoy looking through new books before choosing. Nice cafe and magazine section. Wonderful kid stuff!"
"Barnes and Noble is the best. I always find what I am looking for. I like the fact that you can browse and relax at the same time. Great place."
"If I could rate them lower I would. At this point I wish Borders were still open. I shop in Springfield Illinois Barnes & Noble for things even though their employees are typically not helpful at all with anything. I am a person that will find my own way to what I am needing without help so I do not let that bother me. However, any time I go to buy something and I have a coupon that is valid they NEVER accept it. Especially their own. Tonight I brought my daughter to the store to buy an expensive game and she found a book she wanted. I also found two items I knew my brother would like and racked up over $110 in things to buy. I had a Barnes & Noble coupon from a site known as Retailmenot.com for 15% off of one item. I read the coupon thoroughly and it did not limit me from using it on my purchase. However, the coupon has a code number on it that apparently is duplicated for everyone that finds it. The recipient is not given a unique code and the Barnes and Noble cashier is always eager to find ANY excuse not to allow you the use of your coupon even though it is one of their own. In my case the cashier tells me the problem with third party coupons is that they have this code and it shows up as already being used by someone. I have never used this coupon before, so some other person got the coupon first from the website and used it and B&N will only honor it for the first customer. The other ten to ten hundred folks wanting to use theirs don't get to. One coupon for only one customer and nobody else because their code is duplicated on every coupon that the customers get. So I was not allowed the use of it and left the largest part of my would be purchase behind. I am tired of Barnes & Noble. They do not have a problem bugging me in their store with help that is never helpful, offering me their annoying discount card that they want you to buy from them, but you come up with a coupon of any kind and see if they ever take it. They will not even accept the blame for their choice not to. I am looking everywhere else that I can to purchase things I want from now on before I ever consider them again."
"Bought a book through the online store and received so quickly and safely!"
"I ordered 3 items on Dec. 8th...
On Dec. 31st I received an email telling my my items have been delayed... Thanks!
On Jan. 6th I revived an email telling me 1 of 3 items has shipped.
I received that 1 item Jan 9th (an entire month after I ordered it). The outside cover/jacket was in pretty rough condition. All the corners were bent in and missing color. It looked used.
On Jan 7th I received an email telling me my other 2 items will be canceled if they didn't hear from me in 24 hours. They asked me to go and check my order status (followed the link) and click on "I still want this" next to each item. This option wasn't there. The only option was to "cancel" each item. I replied back saying, I could not find an option to say "I still want this". I never heard back and 24 hours later I received an email telling me my items were canceled.
I used a coupon for this order. All of the items were eligible. They applied the coupon to one of the items that were canceled. The coupon was the only reason I gave B&N a try.
By the way, all the items were suppose to be a gift to my wife for Christmas.
I purchased the 2 canceled items from a different on-line retailed and had them the next day with free shipping. B&N should not be surprised when this other retailer puts them out of business."
"I didn't have a pleasant experience with shopping from Barnes and Noble online. My items were shipped December 18th (a Wednesday), it was suppose to be delivered 2-6 business days. (I didn't even count 21st-22nd for Saturday and Sunday.)I received a tracking number (items were packaged separately) for one item and not the other. The only number they sent never changed from the town Reno, NV, I live in several states away. I called to see if they had any information on my items, because I was assured they'd be here by Christmas. I called, I believe the following Tuesday and the customer service rep. told me one item was in Georgia and the other was sure enough still in Reno, NV, from the time I ordered it. So 7 days goes by and one packages hasn't even left the post office. She told me the latest date would be the 30th! She said she could refund some of my money or send my items again. Because I couldn't find one of the items in stores I asked them to resend it. A week later (the 30th, 2013) the re-order arrived. I would have expected some kind of money back on shipping, etc. But they pretty much acted like this was normal, she resent it and just incase sent a return label if the other items ever came. BUYER BEWARE! If you are ordering something you need within the next 2 weeks don't order online! Because they MAY be able to fix it in a week, but really you cannot go by their shipping dates."
"Dec 27, 2013 Very poor customer service!!!!! Spent 50 minutes in chat, timed out the first time although it said I was connected to some one. 2nd time, connected, some one there although took a long time to reply. After 15 min. told me shy could not help me and transferred me to "someone that could." 3rd time, again much time before answers, the answer AGAIN was an apology, but the answer was NO AGAIN.
It is no wonder AMAZON is running them into the ground. Guess I will give up trying to help them and go with some who believes in CUSTOMER SERVICE."
"They have very poor customer service. They cancelled my christmas orders because I have a paypal seller account and they think I am reselling. That is the dumbest policy ever. I haven't bought anything from them in a year and I try and get some books for christmas gifts and they cancel my orders. Stupidity. They say I am banned from buying from them because they think I am a reseller. "
"Ordered a nook book for my grandson as a GIFT. It was listed as a gift! I had to provide an email addy. He does not have 1 so I gave mine. Received 2 notices. 1 telling me it was sent and 1 to him at my email. HOWEVER, I can't just print this and enclose it into a card. It has a link you have to go to and then ??? (well I don't know). It also states that he can choose to exchange it toward something else. NO, NO, NO! I spent a long time choosing a book for him. If he had a kindle I could have just printed the book/gift notice with a code to put in to access it. Unfortunately this grandchild has a nook and not a kindle like the other 2. I am so frustrated over this stupidity. I wish I had just bought the paperback off of Amazon. At least then I could be sure he would get the book I chose and not trade it in 4 something less! Like toward a game. I will NEVER buy him another nook-book again. They just don't offer in gifts what I am looking for. It isn't like he is an adult, he is only 9. So I am ticked and upset that I have nothing to enclose in his card as I do for the other 2. I can't even forward the stupid email. And if I could there would probably be something that does not allow it. Lastly, B&N Customer Service DOES NOT EXIST. It just takes you to a blank page. They don't want to be bothered. You bought something on the nook so tough! We don't care and we don't refund. "
"This is a long review, you can only read the last line and you'll see why I rate Barnes and noble 1 star only.
Received a damaged Blu-ray set. I live in Canada so returning it to the store isn't possible and they don't do exchange only return for a refund.
And naturally, if I just bought something I don't want my money back , I want the item I bought.
Fortunately, no discs were broken but the packaging was seriously damaged. It was a 100$ set, on sale for 50$ , made of cardboard and was in such state that seeing it on the shelf I would have never took it with me.
I asked for a 10$ refund (20%) and proposed to keep the item as is. That way they're not stuck with an hard to sell item, both because of its condition and high price, I don't have to pay to ship it back, and I don't take the chance of ordering again and getting another damaged one. And since they don't refund shipping charges, I don't have to pay both ways,to send it back and to get hopefully one in good condition in return.
I was given a 5$ refund, in this case 10%, with no explanation as to why 20% was too much or if they needed proof or anything.
Thinking 5$ isn't much out of a 50$ item I wrote again asking this very same question:
But why only 10% ? Would you need pictures of the item (I'm willing to provide them) in order to give me a higher refund ?
And was told:
We have issued a credit of 10% off the price you paid for the item, $5.00.(Yes I know that's why I'm writing again) Unfortunately, we cannot issue a credit on the Retail Price of the item when you did not pay Retail Price for the item.(??? where is that coming from?? )
Which is as you see, far from what I asked about. Did I said I wanted to be refunded on the retail price ? No, so why mention it ? And still no reply as to why 20% isn't possible or about my suggestion of bringing proof in order to maybe get an higher refund.
And that's why I give Barnes and noble a low rating today,
for avoiding to reply correctly to questions when asked and forcing their decisions with no listening whether you like them or not. That's worth a 1 star for me.
EDIT: I receive today my refund of 4.59$, not even 5$.
I spent 598$ in a single order and another of 204$ two week before (both online) and that won't even get you 5$ if you have a problem with an item. Does that explain my rating ? "
"I love this store. Absolutely love it. Some things are a little more expensive here than if you were to get them elsewhere but you know you're getting quality."
"B&N.com is very misleading...
Last week I ordered "Mark My Time Assorted Animal Print Bookmark with LED Light" Notice the description reads ASSORTED and it shows 3 bookmarks.Nowhere in my order did B&N ask for a certain color so I assumed my order was a pack of 3 in assorted animal print. One each for my 2 granddaughters and the brown for my grandson. I received one pink. B&N Customer Service cannot be contacted. They only list FAQ's no email or phone number to contact them is available. I went to the shipping order email and replied and that was undeliverable. I'm glad I didn't buy a nook The nearest B&N store is about 35 miles away.
Sincerely, VERY UNSATISFIED "
"I ordered a Nook HD November 28. Rather than wade through Black Friday traffic, I placed the order online because the website said it would be shipped Nov. 29. On Nov. 28, I received a notice that the shipping would be delayed more than a week -- until Dec. 6. I went online Nov. 30 to cancel the order and was informed that it was in the "shipping process" and couldn't be canceled. I called two customer service reps and emailed another, all of whom said they'd try to cancel the order. The emails I received subsequently stated the order couldn't be canceled.
I figured I'd best bite the bullet and wade through Black Saturday traffic to get a Nook by the time I needed it (and to take advantage of the reduced price), so I picked up (earlier yesterday, Nov. 30) a Nook HD from my local B and N store rather than wait a week plus another two days for the Nook. I wasn't happy happy that B and N could unilaterally delay the promised shipping date by a week, but it couldn't cancel my order 7 days ahead of the rescheduled ship date it had given me.
Then today (Dec. 1), I find that someone at B & N may have been paying attention to my plight. I got an email from B and N at 1:12 a.m. telling me the Nook has been shipped.
I now will have two Nooks, only one of which I need. I'll have to make another trip to Barnes and Noble to return one.
"
"Although, this site is very easy to navigate and locate what you're looking for, the prices are are not the best, and i could easily find my books much cheaper elsewhere."
"I am not sure why the stars are low because I have always loved Barnes and Noble. This is a wonderful store!"
