I bought a "Cool Lift Portable Notebook Cooling Pad" from its marketplace - "HandStands". I didn't like the product so I want to post a negative review. I had read the customer reviews before I bought. The reviews were all very good. However, when I tried to submit my negative rating and comments, my post was not shown up. I then tried several times, all failed. At one time I saw another negative review for the product from another customer, but it disappeared the next day. All left are very positive reviews.
Now I believe buy.com's reviews are all bogus. I will never trust them anymore.
Since I cannot post my review on buy.com, I am posting it here:
"This product is made of form/rubber, it does not help cool the laptop and it is way too small. I just wasted my $8 for it."

"I am very unhappy with the service I've gotten from Buy.com.
I ordered an HP Mini, for what I am sure is a very good price. They needed to verify the purchase via phone, which seems very reasonable to me, but for some reason they pulled, pretty much out of nowhere, my dad's office line at my parents home. Now, I live two hours away from my parents and I have no car. On top of that, my dad religiously screens calls,b ecause he's trying to run a business, and will not answer 800 number calls. I didn't even know this was his number until after I looked it up, trying to figure out what number they were calling.
I wrote their support section, and found their customer support number and called them, but the customer support woman made it sound like very little could be done, because I need a "verified" number, something that is still very confusing to me.
I need this computer for school next monday, and paid extra to have it shipped in 3-5 days. I'm a college student, and 10 dollars extra for shipping is a lot of money, a whole meal in fact. Had a known I would hit such a ridiculous problem, I would not have paid the extra money. In fact, they are wasting my money, which makes me more mad than anything else. "
"I ordered one Seiko watch and had very bad experience with Buy.com marketplace sale.
I got a defective watch! One rubber piece (possibly waterproof washer between watch and back over) was peeping out.
When I checked return policy, Buy.com says that I should deal directly with seller. I am sure at the time of placing order, you will miss the marketplace word.
Buy.com is responsible only for collecting money!!!!!!!!!!!

I called seller and he was prompt in giving me RMA number but just number. I had to pay for freight and insurance. I didn’t choose to pay further on the watch. I was not sure if I send watch back, I will get something in return.

"***RESOLUTION*** FINALLY I was contacted by & had an email conversation w/ one of buy.com's higher echelon customer care personnel on Sunday evening no less (8/30). More to the point I received a complete explanation of the events concerning my order and a full refund. Now I don't care about the money but it was considerate of them to offer the refund. While this review reflects actual circumstances surrounding my order, my opinion of buy is slightly improved. This was not due to the refund but the explanation I received.

**UPDATE 8/29** OK the flag on this review "we have contacted customer and are waiting for reply" is typical of buy's customer service!!! I replied to their email, returned their phone call (ONLY voice mail there), I even contacted them via eBay days ago.
I shopped with buy.com thru eBay on mon 8/18, it' thurs 8/20 I'm still waiting for my pkg to arrive...
I paid for next day & wanted the Item I ordered to arrive aprox same time as other products from newegg, where this item was out of stock. well since it supposedly shipped today it should be here by Monday :( Only problem so far I haven't received any tracking info for my order only that it shipped (supposedly). we'll see how this goes. I've always been weary of Buy.com.
*UPDATE 8/24* I got an email from buy today with all tracking info, assuring me order should arrive soon. Hmmm guess they didn't even track their own shipment, pkg arrived friday 8/21.
I spent WAY to much to get this to finish a build about 5x what it cost @ newegg where this item was out of stock. "

"When I placed this order, the website told me that the product was in stock and ready to order. Two days later, I receive an email telling me that my order has been back-ordered. This company is another example of internet crooks who take your order, knowing full well that they don't even stock the product. They take your order, then scramble to find someone that they can order the product from, then hope that the customer doesn't want to go through the hassle of cancelling and ordering the product elsewhere. I will never, ever, order another thing from these crooks.
Added 8/23/09 - Although Buy.com has replied, to my earlier posting, that they have contacted me to try and resolve this issue, they have only sent me "canned" email, asking me to explain my situation. I did that, the day after I posted my earlier review, and I have still not heard another word from them, other than to fill my inbox with mass quantities of spam, that I neither asked for, nor want. Be prepared, if you deal with this company.... you're going to get nothing that you want, and everything that you don't.
8/25/09 - Received an email today, offering me a $40.00 gift certificate to make me go away. I told Buy.com that to accept their $40.00, I'd have to buy something else from them. I have no inclination to ever do that again. They addressed none of the issues that I raised, like the fact that they go out of their way to hide the fact that they are simply a reseller, they hide their Customer Service phne number from their customers, and they take orders for items that they don't have in stock. Just give him a gift certificate and back to business, as usual.
By the way, their Customer Service phone number is 1-***-***-****, in case you need it. Their CSR's won't do anything to make you happy, but at least you can reach someone. Good luck!"
"I have placed many orders with Buy.com and have not run into any issues. Good prices on many items, and offers great deals on a rotating number of items. Offers free shipping on many items, but be aware that they use UPS Mail Innovations for much of their free shipping and may be waiting up to a couple of weeks if you use this option (not a problem for me if the deal is good enough).
Overall have had problem-free experiences with Buy.com and will continue to use them in the future."

"Buy.com deserves it's poor rating. I ordered a laptop processor on a Wednesday and paid for overnight shipping. The item showed a 1-2 day shipping time, so I figured it'd ship no later than Friday. When Monday rolled around and it hadn't shipped, I emailed them. They said there was a problem with my phone number (the same phone number that's been associated with my debit card for 8+ years). I got that straightened out and they said it was being sent to the warehouse. That was Tuesday. Today I checked my email expected a shipping notification and instead found that it's now backordered. I decided to cancel the order and will now be ordering it from Amazon.com where it's $20 more but I fully expect the item to actually ship. I won't be using Buy.com again.
Update: So, their "expedited customer service" contacted me and offered me a $40 gift certificate for my problems. I accepted it and since the processor I wanted was no longer in stock, I went with a slightly faster processor for a little more money. Not long after I submitted my order, I got yet another email from them saying there was a problem with my address. Ironically, I ordered something from Newegg the same day, with the same card and that order has now shipped. I'm very wary of this and if I don't have an email saying the new processor has shipped by Wednesday, I'm going to have to cancel this order as well.
New Update: Believe it or not, I got my processor yesterday. I'm still VERY unhappy with the service I got and how big of a hassle this was. From start to finish getting a processor to upgrade my laptop took better then 3 weeks. The second order was one week and that was with 2 day shipping. The address verification problem I had is interesting since I used that card the same day on Newegg and had no issues. Oh well, all in all, I'm just happy I finally got my product!
Update: Yet another issues with Buy.com. They sent me a $20 gift certificate since I had issues with them. I finally decided to give them another chance and once again have issues. They canceled my order with no explanation and tried blaming the marketplace partner. Never again will I give them another chance."

"This is an update to the review bellow. Within a day of submitting the negative review bellow, I was contacted by buy.com Escalations.
They immediately took steps to remedy the situation and I was able to post my review of the product on buy.com's web page without further issue. They also refunded me the cost of the product, plus a gift certificate!
Well, I can say I am very impressed with the way buy.com went out of their way to recover a loyal customer. I will shop there again for sure.

I ordered the product based on the high 4.5/5 reviews I read on the product information page.
When I received the product, I quickly discovered the batteries did not hold a charge and I could only take 10 pictures before my camera turns off.
I tried to write a negative review over 5 times to express my experience with the product and none of my reviews ever made it to the product page.
Since then more positive reviews have listed and buy.com has not given me any explanation as to why they would not post my review.
I feel buy.com is intentionally preventing the posting of negative reviews regarding this product."
"Update: buy.com contacted me about their part of the trouble I've had getting my rebate. They looked into it. They stepped up and agreed with all the things I said and they have paid me themselves. The rebate company, promoprocess.com, still has my rebate listed as "declined" even though I sent the proper rebate in early July. DO buy from buy.com, but DON'T get anything that has a rebate through promoprocess.com. 8/17/09
I bought a 1TB external hard drive with a $20 rebate. I sent the paperwork Buy.com sent. The rebate was rejected because I didn't send the INVOICE. After contacting Buy.com, they told me how to print out an invoice since they don't include one with the purchase. Because of this, I still don't and may never get my rebate. Good response to my getting my purchase, but I won't buy from Buy.com for letting me fall in this trap. The rebate company, promo process, is ignoring me. It's been over 5 weeks since I sent the invoice and my rebate is still "declined"."
