"I have never been treated so poorly in my life as a customer. Their "game" goes like this: order an item on their website. Soon, you get an email with an extension to call "before your order can be shipped". I called, and the only purpose of my call was for them to "tell" me what they were adding to my order asking if I understood how the item would work with the product. I said yes to each, next thing I know each of the "needed" items was now on the order to the tune of another $1,000. They now say they recorded my call. I called several times with explicit instructions to cancel the order and they refused! Only when I received an email from a fulfilment center advising me they would be shipping did the order get stopped. I advised the fulfillment center the order was to be cancelled and if they shipped it I would refuse it. That 'back channel' info got another call (showing a bogus 800 number on caller ID) from an individual who pretty much said while it was cancelled, I would have to pay the shipping both ways if I refused it. Well, the big item hadn't shipped and I knew it, but they insisted that it had. A small UPS delivery was made to my front porch (probably with the added parts they decided I needed) which I will take to the UPS store and "refuse shippment" for. Not a pleasant experience by any means and a company that should be avoided at all costs would be my advice."
"I have had a similar experience to the review I just read from another customer. These guys appear to be slime balls. They use a bait and switch variation. They offer a good price on a camera, then say you must call to confirm, insist you purchase full price accessories and when you refuse, they send you an email that says your camera is on back order. I waited 2 months and asked when the camera would be avaiable, asking for a specific date, and they replied 4-6 weeks. You can see how the scam works."
"tryed to buy nikon d40x for $443.total scam first they did the hard upsell for battery and memory card, then the warranty.four days later customer service (not so much service) states camara is on back order will be 2 or 3 weeks.
these guys make used car sales people look like saints. "
"BEWARE CAMERA ADDICT.COM = RIPOFF!!!!
I purchased a Zumo 550 and the on line price was $581.00 USD, then it was $632.00 USD, so I pulled the trigger and purchased it, since they offered "Free" shipping. Before they sent it, they sent an email saying I had the be "Confirmed", which is another word for UPSELL warranties and SD Cards. I told them NO thanks and thought all was fine. Still no GPS unit, so I called and they said I "haven't been "Confirmed, so I did it again. then they said do I want the accessories I said no send just was Garmin sends along with the Unit in the box, at this time they said "OH" that will be extra money, the on line price was "ONLY for the unit. At this point I felt this was a TRUE Bait and Switch, but I needed this so I said "F" it and went with the added charge. I got it several days later and much to my shock or maybe not to my shock I was charged another $19.99 for " Handling and Insurance" another ripoff as it's NOT stated anywhere except for the following cut from their website as follows:
"Free Shipping Promotion
The Free Shipping Promotion only applies to UPS Ground delivery which excludes Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Post Office boxes as well as APO and FPO boxes and does not apply to A/V Receivers, Home Theater Systems, Scanners, Printers, VCR Decks, Televisions, Television Stands and any other oversized or overweight items.
Handling and Insurance fees may be additional."
NO where does it state a cost on the on line invoice and when they so called "confirmed" me. so..... AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTSFree Shipping Promotion

"Worst bait-and-switch experience I have had on the web.
They were offering a Panasonic SDR-H18 at $389, a very low price compared the $450 or so at the other sites. After I made the purchase, I received an email to call to verify the order - sounds bad!
When I did call, I was told that the camera did not come with a battery. Fine, 3 hour battery for $79. I was then put on hold for 10 minutes. The sales person then returns and said that the camera does not come with a charger, which I can purchase for $59. At this point, I simply told them to cancel the order.
Hopefully this will prevent a few buyers from wasting their time with this disreputable company."
"Ordered online because of the low price. Received email informing me of the need to call their customer service to verify the order. After calling 6 times and getting disconnected, I finally spoke to a salesman. He put a real hard sell on extra batteries. "The camera comes with a battery, does it not?" I asked. "That battery is no good. It will only last 15 minutes," he replied. After he dropped the price 2 times and he agreed that I could send it back if I wasn't satisfied, he moved on to extra memory cards. "I own 3 SD cards already." I said. "Those are older SD cards and won't work with this camera. Do you want to receive a useless camera? Is that what you want to do?" he commented. "Your website lists this kind of SD card and the ultra speed SD cards as compatible accessories. Is your website wrong?" I asked. "You need different cards for your camera to work," he again added. "I am not sure I do," said I. "Are you calling me a liar?" said he.
At this point my wife could barely contain her laughter, as this exchange was straight out of a "Crank Yankers" episode. I asked if he was honestly trying to sell me a camera. He replied, "I am trying to get you a good deal, but you won't listen to me. What the hell is wrong with you?" he added.
I said, "You better cancel my order," which he did. The exchange ended with his sarcastic comment, "Thanks a hell of a lot for wasting my time."
I was convinced it was a joke until finding this site. Apparently not. I am shocked, though.
Don't even consider contacting this vendor, unless you work for the Attorney General of NY. All the comments you read about this vendor are consistent with my experience."
"I ordered a Canon Digital Rebel XTi from the website on December 27, 2007. Like so many others, I received an autoresponder e-mail the next morning stating that I needed to call a toll-free number to "confirm" the order. I called and was automatically placed on hold. Then, I sent a rather nasty e-mail telling them either to send the camera or cancel the order. No reply. I called and got put on hold again. I called and got voicemail (I left one -- boy did I leave one!) I called another number and got some guy who transferred me to voicemail. At some point, I found my way to the local post office and sent Camera Addict a certified letter canceling the order. I copied the New York Attorney General. You should, too: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/complaints/html/comp_consumer.html
I will continue to pepper Camera Addict with e-mail, faxes, and voicemails until someone assures me that my order has been canceled. After all, their own policy requires that I speak with a live body to cancel my order! "
"I will not be using this company ever again and advise aginst anyone looking for a camera to do avoid them as well. They had told me much the same as most other reviews. The camera model I was purchasing was a foreign model and would not have Eng. readout. As well I was told the delivery would be by a certain date and then the rep told me that I wuldn't be able to get it as it is a foreign model and would take longer to get to me. For lack of better judgement and urgency I let him badger me into buying a more expensive "American" version. Trying to upsell everything else in the book after repeated and more than politley saying I do not want anything else. Short story long. No more, nunca mas, and never again. And yes... I stopped the order."
"Stay away from these guys and from 86th Street Photo & Video, it seems they have the same fulfullment center. They bait you in with low prices showing them in stock. You are then e-mailed and told to call them regarding your order, then a salesman tries to sell you memory or extended warranties, usually way above retail, and them they tell you your order is going out. The next day you are getting a e-mail saying that your products are on back order and can't be filled for weeks and a link to cancel your order. Its a scam with both 86th street photo and these guys. I'm sure if I ordered the memory or extended warranty they would have sent my products. Unless you are ready to purchase the overpriced memory or extended warranty your not getting your product."
"I had the same experience as all the others. Ordered a camcorder that their website said was 'Available' on 12/14. Received an email saying I need to call them to 'verify' my internet order. I called and when I got through, they were just trying to upsell batteries. I chose 3 day shipping so my product would arrive by Christmas, and the rep confirmed that yes, it will arrive on 12/20. On 12/17 I received an email saying that the item is on backorder. I cancelled my order (hopefully I am not charged), and will not do business with Camera Addict again."
"I received an email to call about the Sony Camera I ordered online.
Service Reps told me this was a Greymarket camera with NO English instructions. Then he asked "what did I think was so funny?", had I been laughing I may have told him. What a scam operation. He then went on to explain how the World Wide Web works. What an ass.
Don't do business with www.cameraaddict.com"
"I attempted to purchase a camera from Camera Addict and Broadway photo (same company). I was then forced to call in to complete the order for both during which they attempted to hard sell me additional items. Then I was informed that i had purchased the Japanese version and if i wanted the US Version i would have to pay approximately $125 more. "
"I wish I had found this website before purchasing my camera.
Same story as everyone else, the place is a scam. I ordered my camera, got an email instructing me to "confirm" the order. When I called I was badgered with purchasing upsell products on battery chargers, cases. The guy told me I could purchase a 15 hrs lithim battery with 2 hr charger for $129.oo, which actually would have been a good deal. Turns out I was shipped a $30 NiMH battery and charger. Upon trying to return the product they would not accept a partial return because it was sold as a "package" and ontop of that they would have charged $100 for restocking fees.
The best I could do is get an upgrade in my warranty and a spare memory card. Even with the upgrades free of charge I still overpayed at least $100.oo. "
"VERY UNSCRUPULOUS!!!!
I was sent an email soon after ordering stating that I had to contact them to confirm my order. They tried to upsell me all kinds of accessories. When I declined all these, they informed me that the unit I ordered was a foreign model with no English instructions (both onscreen and in the booklet). They CLEARLY sold me on the lowest price to get my order then switched prices. "
"I found a surprisingly good price on the Leica D-Lux 3 from these guys and placed an order. I few days later I get an email asking me to call to verify the order. When I call in they try to sell me batteries and memory cards for the camera. I was so annoyed that I cancelled the order on the spot, and after finding this site, I'm glad I did."
