"Had to get the Sony Optiarc AD-7260S-0B 24x DVDRW Drive. For $19.99 it was a steal. OEM so that means nothing came with the drive but after all the years of updating and moding I had everything I needed. Got it in four days, not bad from the Mid West to FL. I've been a COMP-USA customer since 1999."

"As long as your order is small, it will ship quickly and accurately. However, if you place a large order, be prepared for delays and errors. I placed an order for 2 laptops and 2 system builds on Friday 10/1 and specifically selected UPS ground. Someone decided my order was better serviced by shipping it via Yellow Freight. It is now 10/6 and it is still sitting within miles of the shipping warehouse and I'm told to not expect it until 10/8. 7 days to go 180 miles. Totally unacceptable. Finally, when calling customer service, was told there was nothing they could do. Yellow Freight says different. CompUSA could pay extra and expedite the order. Very dissatisfied.

UPDATE: 10/7/2010 - 1) YRC (Yellow Freight) was VERY accomodating by expediting a trailer unloading to get my order and allowed me to make a dockside pickup a day earlier than scheduled. YRC rocks!

2) My business CSR refunded my complete shipping cost after a great deal of additional prodding, but sometimes that just isn't good enough. I've had to discount this order through to my customer to keep them happy since it's taken so long. It's approximately 180 miles from CompUSA warehouse to my location and it's taken 136 hours to get here, and that's with YRC being so accomodating. That's 1.32 MPH. How do you explain this to a customer?

RESPONSE.

Sir, that is incorrect. There were 5 boxes in all, none of which were over 25-30 pounds each. According to my UPS guy, they deliver things like that all the time. If that was the case, then your website should not have allowed UPS as a shipping option.

"I don’t know what your feelings are on them but I think that they are a great idea. When I buy a package I think of a complete compatible deal not a bunch of parts that are thrown together.

I recently purchased a bare bones system from CompUSA. The price was fantastic and would totally allow me to replace my aging computer with an upgrade path. The problem is that once I put it together the BIOS reported a problem that the CPU was not compatible. I found it to be odd because it was a kit, I didn’t select any of the parts. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version and still had the problem.

What did I do wrong? Nothing I found out. CompUSA packaged a AMD Phenom X4 9750 (HD9750XAK4BGH) with a Asus M2N68-AM PLUS Motherboard. Doesn’t seem like a problem and when you look at the processors that the mother board supports it looks like it compatible. The problem is that what the mother board supports is a Phenom X4 9750 (HD9750WCJ4BGH). Yes the three letter difference between the two models makes the one I received incompatible. There is a slight difference in the CPUs... The one that is compatible is 95w and the one that CompUSA packaged is 125w.

I contacted customer support where I was told that the person on customer support was not technical enough to answer the questions. The solution was that I could be transferred to a sales person to discuss the issue. The sales person reviewed the previous conversation I had with the customer support person. The sales person preceded to tell me that the CPU I was sent Phenom X4 9750 (HD9750XAK4BGH) was supported and I was wrong. After providing more evidence that I was right I was told that he would contact the product manager in charge for the bundle you purchased.

What happens now I don’t know? I am currently waiting for an email back to see how they will fix this situation.. For now I have a paper weight sitting at home. I submitted this problem to them on Sept 30th.

Lesson for me, even though it’s packaged never trust what people are putting together.

UPdate as of today I have recieved an email on Oct 5th admitting there was an incompatibility in the package and they are willing to replace the processor with the correct one. I need to ship the original one back which is fair. Lets see how long it takes to ship.

I will update this again when I recieve it.

Sorry for the delayed update but real life gets in the way some times. On oct 5th I was told by the sales specialist that he would send me a return label to ship back my processor and that I would have to call the sales department and let them know that I should get the new processor at the package price. The other thing that shocked me was the new processor would be sent out 2nd air.

I was personally really upset with this response, not only would I have to ship back my current one but I have to contact the sales department and try to get the correct part for the original part. Not only that but it would be shipped 2nd air?

I was really upset by this, not only had they made a mistake but they had also half corrected it. I sent an email to the sales specialist’s boss complaining about the process and how I was treated unfairly when I had pointed out their mistake and I still had to do work to correct their mistake.

Much to my surprise I had received a phone call from the sales specialist’s boss's boss. Apologizing for the way the process was handled and had shipped the processor to me over night. That I have to say I was very impressed with. Disappointed I had to jump through hoops to get it but was happy in the end it was resolved.

The processor was shipped back on the 9th so let’s see when they get it and credit back the account.
