"I bought an open box demo TV in a local compusa store (#597) and was assured by the manager and another sales man that, if I was not satisfied with it, I can return it without 15% open box fee because it had been an open box item for a year. When I went back home, I found the screen has a noticeable scratch. I took it back to the store one week later, the manager insisted to charge me 15% open box fee and refused to admit what he said. I asked him it had been opened for one year in the local store and why I still should be charged for opening box which should defined with respect to new item. Then he rephrased the "open box fee" on the back of the receipt with "restocking fee". What a bad business there and what a manager!

"GOD I HATE THIS STORE!!! Every time I have ever had to deal with there ‘Customer Service’ be it online or in store, it is just sooo clear that this company is run by idiots and charlatans. It is so amazing that CompUSSR has stayed in business this bloody long. Getting anyone to look for something, or go the extra mile is an exercise in futility. And anything that is one ‘sale’ usually comes with a rebate 90% of the time, whic is often much more trouble than its worth. And for the life of me, I don’t understand why they ALWAYS have their products selling for full retail. Simple things like DVD’s or video cards that are discounted at places like BestBuy or online places are NEVER on sale there. And their rebate process is chaotic and overly complicated. Usually I hear of someone waiting months and months to get a rebate on something like a HD or most other high-ticket items, or getting denied for the flimsiest of reasons. One of my worst experiences involved was ordering two Video Cards back in May, and then later the same day the order was placed, I called to cancel, as there was a problem with my address. Well low and behold, 5 weeks later I get a box from FedEx on my porch when I got home. They still mailed me these video Cards 5 weeks AFTER I CANCELED??? Then I had to go thru the hassle of returning them due to their mistake. And the sales agent denied anything was wrong, and then just told me to give it back to the FedEx guy next time I see him. If I did this, I would never of been properly credited the charge, and most likely I would of never gotten my money back!--------The only ‘good’ thing I can say, is that I live relatively close to one of their shipping warehouses, so usually their ground shipping is really Overnight. But all of this is still not worth the hassle.----------------------To sum up: Don’t EVER expect any help or people who really know what they’re talking about at a store. And God help you if you need to return something or have a rebate. And of course always expect to pay FULL MSRP every time you buy something from CompUSSR. Did I mention at all that I REALLY HATE THIS PLACE!!"
"I will be very hesitant to ever again respond to a CompUSA advertisement that offers a rebate.
There was an ad in the Nashville Tennessean on February 16, 2003. On the back page of the circular, it states "FREE! FREE! FREE! after savings & rebates". I saw the new version of LapLink was included. I like LapLink and use it several times a week. So, I bought it for $109.23 (including sales tax) and sent the reqiured rebate forms to LapLink on February 20, 2003. I received a U.S. Postal Service Delivery Confirmation Receipt on February 22, 2003.
After 12 weeks, I have not received the $100 rebate as promised in the CompUSA advertisement.
Upon sending a request to LapLink regarding the status of the rebate, the company responded with this notice:
"LapLink Inc., ("LapLink") filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on March 18, 2003 in the US Bankruptcy Court in Seattle, Case No. 03-13521. In addition we signed an agreement to sell our assets to a third party. The bankruptcy court will consider the proposed sale at a hearing to be scheduled sometime in early May. You will receive notice of this hearing. The sale should be concluded by the middle to latter part of May."
It certainly seems suspicious that one month before declaring bankruptcy, the company offered a rebate through CompUSA. Both CompUSA and its customers are suffering.

"I saw they were selling a CompUSA brand wireless router for $30 on their website. I placed the order and received the product about a week or so later. Not too bad. The router I received however was fried. I called customer service, they told me to go to the store and they would exchange it. Went to the store, and it happened just like they said. No questions asked, just handed me a new one. The new one works great!"
"I just received the $300 rebate for the Compaq Notebook that I ordered on 11/28/2002 ( about 5 months of waiting). I'll never deal with this crapUSA again
"
"After being told of a WD 175g hard drive for $99, I checked out the CompUSA site and found that the real price was $199 with a $100 rebate. I was willing to go for it though, so I placed an order for one and downloaded the rebate form. The rules on the rebate form were pretty strict; the hard drive had to be purchased between 4/22 and 4/29 and had to be mailed in before 5/15. Since I ordered the drive on 4/22, that didn't seem to be to much of a problem though.
A couple days after putting in my order, I get an email from them saying that the shipping address wasn't confirmed with my credit card company. The billing address for my credit card is a PO box, but I have everything that I order online shipped to my business address. I use the card constantly online without any trouble at all, and I KNOW that the businesses address is listed with my credit card company. They told me the order was on hold until I called my credit card company and added the address that was already listed.
I also got an email from them saying that the rebate form listed on the web page was the wrong one (it was for the exact model that I was buying) and they sent me a corrected link for the 'right' rebate form that, when I went to look at it, looked right until you read the fine print and then I noticed it was actually for a 40g hard drive.
After canceling my order, I received 3 more emails from them before the order was actually canceled, 1 telling me that they weren't sure they could cancel the order before it shipped like someone else mentioned in their rating which seemed rather odd since the order was supposedly on hold.
Basically, their web site is run the same way as their stores are, quite poorly by people who don't know what they are doing. You can get good deals off their site and in stores sometimes, but it is rarely worth the trouble dealing with the hassles.

"I thought I found a great deal on an optical mouse. I placed my order and everything was fine. Until they decided that the deal was too good and would not be honoring any orders for this item. What good is online ordering if you can't trust the pricing. Find a good deal and if CompUsa decides not to sell it for that advertised price then they cancel your order. Crooks, Liars, Cheats. Never order from them."
"Unreliable pricing, very untrustworthy, would not do business with again. Do yourself a favor and go to Newegg.com or Fry's (Outpost.com) instead!"
"CompUSA has significantly improved over the past few months. I was frustrated with delivery (both speed and cost) on orders placed 6 months ago.
In the past 2 weeks, delivery has been well under one week and prices seem to be much better.
Now they quote an item as "Out of Stock" even when there is reasonably good quantity in the local stores. (I think I would rather have them do that than to say they have an item that they cannot deliver in a timely manner.)
Only problem recently was that some rebate forms would not print after downloading, so it took a trip to the store to get those forms after all. (Oh well, it gave me the chance to pick up items they had said were out of stock.)
My experience has been that their rebates are paid at a much higher rate than most other sellers.

"Bought a video card back in Nov of last year... $40.00 rebate - still waiting. Have made several calls/emails...
These guys stink"
"Found a great price for an extended battery for my Compaq Ipaq on the website. Ordered it at the slowest shipping rate (5-7 business days) and received it the next day via Fed Ex. All the while I received e-mails telling me the progress of the shipment. Everyone should have as quick and pain-free service. "
"it is not convenient to obtain RAM number to return my order(can only via calling instead of email like most of other retailer).
Also,they charged me $1357.74 originally,however only refuned $1348.12, I don`t know where is another $9.62 gone.
I will not buy anything from this retailer any more whatever how lower the price."
"This company should not be in business.I would advise anyone who does not want a headache or gray hair not to buy from these idiots.
It took me a month and a half to get them to finally credit my credit card for an item I ordered which never left their warehouse which they said they would have to investigate before they could credit my account plus the fact the Item I purchased was way over retail price but due to not finding it anywhere else I made the stupid mistake of ordering from them.
I won't make that mistake again as there are plenty of honest and reputable companys out there just waiting for your business.

"I hate CompUSA - I hate their return policies and their CUSA labelled products. I will NEVER shop at CUSA again - period."
"Purchased a PNY GeForce4, Ti4200 video card via CompUSA.com internet site the second day of their recent sale (3/15 thru 3/20). The expected shipping time was "usually 48 hours". On the third business day after placing the order, I phoned customer service to check on the status of this order since the order conformation status email hadn't been updated since the original order was placed. I was told this item was out of stock and discontinued. I'm disappointed that I didn't receive an early notification email from this company regarding this problem. Because of this delay, I was unable to purchase this same item offered by another retailer (Best Buy) at the same sale price within their sale period. I don't think CompUSA ever had sufficient quantities of this item on stock before promoting this sale and only used it to attract potential customers to their site in hopes of selling them something. Very reluctant to do web business with CompUSA ever again without confirming that the product was definitely on hand and ready to be shipped. I suggest you do the same before placing an order with them. "
