"**HOME OF THE REBATE SCAMS**

I purchased two Belkin products with rebates and 3 months later I get notices saying that the items I bought don't qualify for a rebate.

What a complete joke. Having been scammed by CompUSA rebates in the past, I now keep copies of the advertisements and everything else including the ads to protect myself.

After endless time on hold and more submissions, Belkin agreed to allow me to resubmit my proof. Now they say it can another 12 to 16 weeks. That is terrible. It's already been 3 months now another 4 for a total of 7 months and many phone calls and aggrevation in getting them to pay (if they pay).

This is all clearly a scam to avoid paying rebates and CompUSA willingly participates in allowing this to happen.

I've chewed the ears off the local store manager so many times over rebates that I know he dreads seeing me in the store...lol

NEVER BUY ANYTHING AT COMPUSA because of a rebate. You've been warned!

"Sucks!
I placed an order from compusa.com, and choice pickup at local store.
When I drove half hour to the local store, they didn't have such product in stock and they even prepare before customer go to pickup.
It's totally different from what they promised on their web site.
This is not only waste my time and gas, also lost my trust.
I won't buy anything from compusa anymore, even they got the cheapest price.
Compusa sucks!
BTW, their online customer service only provide during regular hours, even shorter then the local stores. This sucks again!

"As an update to the below... I was approved to receive a replacement on my DVD burner and when I went to pick it up, I was extremely disappointed. The TDK burner I paid $219 for was replaced with a $40 Mad Dog burner. I told him I could understand cost difference if they gave me a similar quality burner. He told me the Mad Dog was alot better than the TDK.... Which I disagree with. I asked if there was something else he could do, and he said he could give me a $40 credit towards purchase of another brand burner. I showed him where it said on my receipt $100-$199 replacement TAP and he did not even acknowledge me with an answer except to say he was following policy. I had paid $25 for the TAP. In hindsight I would have saved my money for the TAP and sent the drive to the manufacturer for repair. I will not purchase anything other than maybe DVD or CD blanks there ever again. Goodbye Compusa!

I bought a 2 year TAP on a DVD Burner in February. The burner went out and I tried to take it back to the store for replacement. The clerk I bought the TAP from said if it ever broke, bring it back and we will replace it, or if the same model was not available, they could get me one similar or give me a gift card. Well, I took it back and they had to check it in to the system. They said it could take about 3-5 days before I could pickup my replacement drive. The guy next to me had the same trouble with a printer. His wife needed something to print the church bulletin on and they would not help at all. The guy told me they may replace it with a similar item more than likely. I didn't see any DVD burners even close in price to the $219 I paid for this one about 7 months ago. If they will act decent and replace it with a model close in price to this I will not have a problem. If not I will demand a refund. If not satisfied....

"CompUSA has great prices, but their execution makes me pause to consider if it's worth the trouble sometimes.

I found a great price (after rebate) on a memory module which their website said should ship within 24-48 hours. After checking my order status two days later it was still "Open". 3 days later the same, so I decided to call customer service to see what's up.

After navigating the maze of the phone network I speak with two individuals, both of whom seem so bored with my questions. I find out there is some undefined problem at the warehouse and my order will not ship for at least 8 days. 8 days, wow.

I immediately cancel my order. Hop on another website, RECEIVE my memory 2 days later for about $10 more (no rebates involved). Well worth the extra week I'd gained.

My experience with CompUSA summed up: good prices, low quality customer service, bad logistics. I have to remember the negatives whenever I see a good deal with this retailer.

"I find CompUSA a decent place to shop, at least the people in my local store are much better than what i found in bestbuy and circuit city.

I however understand the following policies they have at Compusa not everyone likes:

Online ordering: being in the retail bus. myself i can tell you right now that all of you complaining about the website should hold nothing against the store as it isnt operated bty the stores, probably a seperate entity.

Tap: the program works, however i noticed they changed it due to "corp reasons" or so i was told buy a tech guy. so you buy the ipod for 300 bucks and it dies and you bought tap, you get approved for only 100 bucks but you get an ipod of comparble value for that. the tech also mentioned if i wanted a better model i could upgrade for extra money, so 50 bucks more gets me a way ebtter gfx card? im all for that.

People who buy crap and bring it back: you are morons, the store poicy is 14 days and bb and cc are around the same length as well. If your gonna buy and keep returning wtf is the point. if you dunno what you want then this isnt the store for you.

In closing i notice alot of people int he store feel that they are exempt from the rules. to them i say go fly a kite.

"I placed an order for a Sony VIAO laptop online with CompUSA on 9/21 specifically because of a heavily-promoted $150 rebate offer and well within rebate period (09/18/04-09/25/04). The web site showed 24 hr shipping and as I wanted the product asap I paid extra for the 2-day delivery option. I was not informed of any delay in shipping until phoning customer service a week later to find out where my non-received order was. The product did not finally ship until 10/5.

Now, to add insult to injury, I have received an email notice that my $150 rebate was denied because the purchase was made outside the rebate period. As far as I am concerned, the fact that they failed to ship in the time-frame indicated on the web site (though still charged me for expedited shipping) is irrelevant.

This is a scam to attract suckers with rebates knowing that shipment will be delayed beyond the rebate period.

Customer service has not responded at all to my complaints about this.

I will never shop at CompUSA again and would urge anyone else to shop elsewhere.

"I purchased a video card from compusa one month ago. They claim they sent it and it was delivered. I never received it. I understand that these things happen and do not hold it against Compusa. My problem lies in their service after I informed them that the item was lost.
I emailed them around the 14th to tell them that I still had not recieved the package. They wrote back and told me that Fedex said they delivered it and they would contact fedex.
I again emailed them for status. They said to give it a few days for the driver to see if they could find it.
I AGAIN emailed them and they said that they would file a claim with Fedex so I could get a credit. They never even mentioned sending me a replacement. I wrote them back and told them I wanted a replcement send. After all, I still wanted the item! They wrote back and said I would have to call to get it shipped.
I called them and they told me that they would have to charge me again for the item and a credit would come through in 3 weeks after the fedex claim was processed. I told them fine, ship it.
I called two more times and was told on 09/29/04 it would be shipped that day. Today is 10/04/04 and I just called and was told the item would not be delivered until 10/06/04. Every time I call I seem to get the same person, Trina. She is nice but doesn't seem to care about servicing the customer.
I recently had a similar situation happen with Amazon (I received damaged goods). They were awesome. They sent the driver back out to pick up the item and sent me a replacement (at no charge) the same day I called to tell them the item was damaged.
Compusa.com will probably never see my business again.

"I fully understand the return policy, but my situation has a twist to it.

On September 9th 2004, I walked into the Vacaville Comp USA with my brother-in-law to purchase a hard drive. Brother-in-law was in town to build me a computer and was at that point in the process that it was time to pickup a hard drive. The local COMP USA ads indicated a Hitachi 160GB on sale. We entered the store and went directly to the shelves with the different hard drives. We immediately noticed a section of the shelf was empty and after a brief look around, we figure the store has sold out of the hard drive. At this time, a Comp USA employee was walking by so we asked if there were any more of the Hitachi 160GB hard drives available. He said he would check in the back. He came back saying he did not find any, but stated, "hold on, let me check one other place". He came back with a new Hitachi 160GB hard drive in what looked like a "SEALED BOX". (I'll come back to this). Brother-in-law and I inquired about the return policy and the employee replied "full refund for unopened box and minus 15% if the box has been opened." Brother-in-law stated he had his eye on a similar hard drive going on sale the following day at Fry's Electronics. Employee stated, "we can buy the Hitachi, and if we find something else, as long as we return the hard drive in 30 days with receipt and unopened, we could get a full refund". He commented "oh, we do it all the time".

We purchased the Hitachi and left.

Turns out, we find and purchase a cheaper hard drive from Fry's.

Returned to the Vacaville Comp USA on September 30th 2004 with Hitachi 160GB/receipt in hand and walked up to the customer service counter. I completed the refund form and presented it to the employee. I noted the purchase date and explained what had happened and what was said on the 9th, the employee behind the counter indicated "it should be no problem, I just need to get managments signature". Mr. Manager walked up, looked at the box. took notice of the purchase date, did not seem to have an exception with it and was about to say something to the employee when he stopped short. He took a second look at the box and asked me "are you sure this box has not been opened". I replied, Yes, I have not opened the box, and added, I'm 100% sure my brother-in-law did not open the box. As I was stating this, Mr. Manager was picking at the seal and stated, "this looks like its been opened". He proceeded to undo the seal and opened the box. He inspected the contents, verified everything was in order and closed the box. Then he looked at me and stated, "he could not give me a refund because the box had been opened". To top it off, he added, it was outside the 14 day return policy. I repeated what was stated to me and my brother-in-law on the 9th. It didn't seem to matter, box had been opened and it was outside the 14 day return policy.

Again, I fully understand the 14 day policy, but:
1..if I didn''t believe the policy to be 30 days, as was stated by the employee on the 9th, I would have come in much sooner.
2..what happened to "we refund in situations like this all the time."
3..regardless of the number of days, seemed like Mr. Manager was about to okay the refund, if not for the seal.
4..employee pulled that box out of some back room, question, was it a return itself. Is it our fault that the seal could have already been tampered with, and we purchased it as is.

COMPUSA will never see me or my family in their stores again. AND, believe me, I'll be spreading the message to relatives and friends.

"Ordered a digital remote control for the pc on a friday, shipment came following monday...great! Except there was nothing in the box except for the packing paper and the packing list! Who does that?!?! Called them and their answer was they have to "research" it, there's nothing to "research" I got an empty box wangs! Plus they said it would take 8-14 business days to do it, how long does it take for you to realize it's an empty box?! Very poor business, I will never do business with them again. 1/10"

"CompUSA Customer NON-SERVICE (or DIS-SERVICE) Order was sent and arrived in about 5 days. Then the nightmare began. ... When I installed the drive it was DOA. I called and got an RMA number so that I could send it back. Now I had to wait for the brand new drive to make the shipped round trip. I sent the drive back carefully labeled with the RMA number but they still screwed that up. After three weeks they still claimed not to have the drive even though UPS showed it as delivered. It took me another two weeks to get them to find the drive and get one shipped out!!!! To top it off, after going through that nightmare, the hard drive had a large rebate for drives sold through CompUSA that week. When I sent the rebate in the rebate company rejected the rebate as invalid for that UPC code even though CompUSA insisted that it was valid. I complained loudly and often to Customer (non) Service and was just shuffled around and not helped until finally they just claimed that they couldn’t (and wouldn’t) help!! … Don’t buy from CompUSA!! "

"I ordered the Seagate 160GB special there were having. I waited for 5 days, no email, nothing! I emailed them asking them what is going on with the HD and they said it was backordered.NEVER even thought to tell me it was on backorder. I did look on Resellerrating and was aghast that CompUSA was bad news online. DO NOT order from this company. I even wrote the CEO a letter stating how mistreated I felt. The letter just acknowledged my plight minimally with ABSOLUTELY no thought of making amends. THIS company will die! Plain & simple. THIS is why the CompUSA stores are empty and BestBuy's is alive & vibrant."

"I purchased a Linksys Router from CompUSA 3 weeks ago. It needed more range so I purchased a Linksys range expander. The Range expander would not work and I learned from Linksys that it will not work with the router that I bought from Comp...
I have talked with 5 people at Comp asking to return the router for one that will work with an Expander. I got sent from person to person and finally to Corporate. Corporate finally said that I am out of luck and they will do nothing to help me.
I believe that they sold me an obsolete model router. They refused to allow me to return or exchange it.I will not do business with them again.
