"I recently ordered a quad core PC from Geeks.com after many years of hearing good things about the company. Unfortunately the PC I received was defective, because one of the cores of the PC was faulty. I can understand it getting through quality control, because the system hangs at random intervals, between 15min and an hour.

I emailed technical support, and they promptly issued an RMA for the computer, but refused to send a pre-paid shipping label for it.

Let me get this straight, you guys sell me a defective product, which I paid to have shipped to me, and then you expect ME to pay to ship it back to you? FORGET IT.

What if the next pc you send me is also defective? Will I have to pay to send that one back too? I could see myself racking up hundreds of dollars in shipping charges! That is absolutely ridiculous!

I emailed customer support early this morning about this, but have yet to hear back from them. I'm sure they're ignoring my email at this point since its nearly 24 hours since I wrote it.

How a company can expect to have their customers pay for returning THEIR defective products is beyond me.

I just want the computer that I spent my hard earned money on to function as advertisd, I don't think that's too much to ask. :(

-UPDATE 9/13/10. After much fighting, I got Geeks.com to pay for return shipping on the original computer, after a bit of waiting and them getting the address wrong for pickup, FedEx finally picked up the computer, and Geeks.com shipped a replacement. To their credit, the replacement arrived pretty quickly! Unfortunately, upon opening the package, I realized that they had sent me an inferior model of computer which had a less powerful GPU, Less RAM capacity, no DVI input, and no Firewire ports.

I immediately notified Geeks.com of the error, and they issued me an RMA. With no prepaid shipping label. Again. If I wasn't going to pay return shipping on a defective product, I am CERTAINLY not going to pay return shipping on a replacement that is WRONG. Frustration isn't the word.

UPDATE: 9/14/10 - Geeks.com has done the right thing and sent a pre-paid shipping label for the PC now. Will send it back. Here's hoping the next one is the right one :)

UPDATE: 9/27/10 - Received the 2nd replacement PC. Unfortunately it's the SAME WRONG PC as last time. Still no Firewire, Still no DVI, 2 ram slots instead of 4, less audio inputs. I'm at my wits end with this company at this point.

UPDATE: 10/1/10 - Finally worked out a deal. Kept the second replacement pc, but Geeks.com sent a bigger power supply and a replacement video card to bring it up to the specs of the PC i was supposed to get. Solution isn't perfect. But is certainly better than nothing :) Just wanted to say thanks for the effort to solve my problem, even if we had to go back and forth a few times.

"I ordered a 47" lcd monitor from Geeks that had been "refurbished" for $500. It outside the 90 day warranty period but had only been used 10 hours. It cost $508 to repair it. I contacted Geeks they said sorry it was over 90 days. I asked for information regarding who "refurbished" this unit and they would not provide anything. The unit was junk, probably had been heavily used, never refurbished by a certified technician and had to have MAJOR repairs.

Geeks customer service is very poor and so is the quality of their "refurbished" merchandise, buy at your own risk.

"Ordered webcam online. Supposedly works with XP (SP1/2) and VISTA operating systems. Found it does not work with VISTA, though will work fine with an old, slow laptop running XP. Called for a refund. Company authorized return, with a 15% restocking fee and I have to pay shipping.

This is a rip-off...they misrepresented the product and now want to charge these fees and shipping.

"I ordered a refurbished 47" led Vizio TV model # SV472XVT from geeks for $1021 and received it in a timely fashion. I was aware that is was a refurbished unit and that it came with a warranty. However - the serial number was removed from the box AND the TV itself. Without a serial number Vizio will not honor the 90 day warranty nor will they sell me their extended warranty which I planned to buy with the savings from buying the refurbished unit. I called Geeks and they indeed admitted that they (or the people that refurbished the TV) had REMOVED the serial numbers from the box and the TV. They claimed they will provide the 90 day warranty and that a 3rd party would offer an extended warranty of up to ONE YEAR. The cost of the 3rd party warranty was about the same cost of a VIZIO factory THREE YEAR (yes 3 years)warranty. I consider this unethical AT BEST and would NEVER had made the purchase had this been shown on the product or order page. I had already passed up the same TV with the SAME "dealer type" 90 day warranty for a full purchase price of $800 (now $900) - this ebay vendor was MUCH MORE HONEST about the product and warranty than Geeks. They even said there might be missing items or non working units. Geeks sent theirs missing the batteries and owners manual(no big deal but just shows how they do business). I talked with Chris in tech support and he was very polite and took his time trying to explain what they had done and why. If they choose to do business like that- just let me know and I can choose NOT to do business with them. They said I could return the TV for a refund. I would bet there will be a restocking fee (I have not looked) and the return shipping would cost me $120-$130. I suppose customers that "take" dishonest business practices AND/OR pay restocking fees are a revenue stream that shows a profit. I dont like it very much. I have been in business far longer that Geeks (2nd company name - I wonder why) and my guarantee is much more simple - 100% customer satisfaction or ALL you money refunded or we remake you product until you are happy - old fashion but I sleep well at night. We have about 1 return a year and thousands of thank you's every year. The bad part of this is: With the little time checking it out and the set up -the TV seems to be working fine and it may never give a problem. HOWEVER - that does not make for a good transaction - what Geeks has done fall far short of good honest business dealings. For those that doubt - I always save the product page and order page just in case something like this comes up. I have been buying on line for a long time. (even before Resellerratings and recall the short time they closed) Thanks for being a consumer sounding board.

UPDATE: Since I posted this review and mailed a copy to the product sales mgr at Geeks and to the VP of the holding company of Geeks, I have been contacted by square trade. They informed me that Geeks had purchased a warranty for my TV. I was just in from the hospital recovering from back surgery two days earlier so my recall of the conversation is not very clear. I do think Geeks went FAR beyond what would normally be expected from any company in an effort to make me a happy customer. If I knew how - I would up my rating of them if for no other reason than they made the effort. However - as I said THEY WENT FAR BEYOND THE 1ST MILE AND HAVE MY HIGHEST RESPECT FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. BUY FROM THEM WITH CONFIDENCE.

"I have been a loyal geeks.com customer for a while now and have never had any problems with the service...Until Now!! I placed my order and received it at my home 5 days later but 3 items where missing from my order. I emailed them with no reply so I called the next day. I explained to the lady what was missing out of my order, a universal charger (the most important item of my order) a wireless card, and some bankers boxes. She stated that all the items where sent and asked how was the packing when I received it , I told her the package looked fine, she said for me to keep my packing box for 30 days due to Fed Ex may want to view the condition. She stated she would place all the items back on order that I had not received and send them out express which made me feel better because mix up will always happen, but a company dealing with the mix up in a professional and fair manner is never guaranteed. I was totally floored when I read my email the next afternoon and seen that my incident number had been resolved and closed but the only item that was being shipped to me was the wireless card that was missing from my order.. no mention of my husband's universal charger or my boxes... it was like they never where brought up in the Incident Report! I have always raved about these guys but I am very doubtful now and I am not sure if I will be ordering through them again! They have the best prices around but they do not remain the most cost effective when you pay for something and never get it, it then seems more like a rip off to me!!"

"Before I placed my order, I called to speak to a technician. I had an idea of what I needed but his confirmation of which item would work best for me got me to complete my order online (plus adding a few things I needed.) I felt confident in my purchase and when my package showed up yesterday, everything worked out just as we had hoped. Thank you!"

"After searching a number of other vendors including eBay, Geeks.com had the best price and the best description of this product. What I ordered was a CPU cooler that is a little difficult to find, due to the fact that my CPU runs hotter than most.

I had ordered an inadequate CPU cooler from someone on eBay, because the description was not sufficient to determine that it was not the correct one. So, I was glad to see that Geeks.com had the correct one, with a complete description, and for a good price.

Shipping was very prompt; it was delivered to my door in less than a week. I'm happy with my purchase, and Geeks.com is now a vendor I check regularly whenever I need something.

"I ordered 3 sticks of ram from computergeeks.com through amazon. I knew it was going to be used, which was not an issue at all. A few days later the ram arrived and I installed it, but 2 of the sticks were totally unusable. I immediately informed the seller, and they shipped out replacements a few days later. When this set of ram arrived, I was sure that it would be okay because I had already had an issue with the product. This set I assume is most likely a set of good sticks, but the problem is that this time I was shipped a set of the wrong type of ram. At this point I was starting to get a bit aggravated, but I contacted the seller cordially again, and they sent out a new set to me again. Finally they came and were ok. I waited about 3 weeks for some ram that should have been a quick easy deal. I'm not dissatisfied with the product, but I'm disappointed that so little care went in to packing my orders. I don't think I'll make that mistake again."
