"On 12/12/2007 I ordered a refurbished laptop as a Christmas present for my visiting daughter. I was told it would ship no later than 12/17/2007.
On 12/19/2007 it still wasn't showing as shipped so I called customer service and changed my shipping method to overnight.
On 12/20/2007 I get an email saying that my order has been delayed and won't ship until 1/2/2008. I sent approximately 10 email or web form requests and didn't receive a single response.
On 12/28/2007 I'm notified that my order shipped. There is no tracking number provided. I check on the status daily, but no tracking number is ever provided.
On 1/8/2008 I try customer support again and am told that my order shows it was delivered on 12/17/2007 to someone in Florida (I'm in Ohio)! Now I have to have a replacement order. I then opened a Better Business Bureau complaint.
On 1/17/2008 I get a bill for the computer that still hasn't come--two calls to customer support finally get that straightened out.
On 1/18/2008 I finally get a call in response to my BBB complaint. I'm told that a replacement is being expedited. I check the order and see that the replacement is missing a Gigabyte of RAM. The replacement is then replaced.
On 1/22/2007 I get home and find my new laptop was signed for by a stranger and left on a cold damp porch for over 6 hours unattended.
I bought 2 Hewlett Packard laptops in the past year and had great service and great machines. I should have used them again. I will never do business with Dell again.

"I attempted to purchase an item on Nov 24 2007. Dell's website listed the item as out of stock, but the estimated shipping date was Dec 10 2007. This allowed plenty of time for Christmas, or so I thought. On Dec 10, I received an email telling me it was delayed until Dec 17. Still no problem, but on Dec 17 I received another delay: Dec 26. This is a problem, so I attempted to resolve it with customer service.
After robotically asking me for a list of unnecessary information I learned that the new ship date was Dec 26th. This didn't solve my problem or answer my question, nor assuage my doubts that I would receive my item in December. I spoke with the customer service manager. He apologized, 'expedited' my order, and upgraded the shipping to next day air. The manager didn't commit to a ship date, but promised to call me on the 21st (friday) with additional information and suggested that I would receive the item before January.
The manager never called, the item was delayed, and the website did not show the shipping upgrade or mention anything about an 'expedited' order.
I contacted Dell to correct these errors and ask for any information that would allow me to estimate a real ship date. I was again (apologetically) read information from Dell's website and my other concerns were ignored. I do not believe the representative was capable of, or interested in understanding my request. I decided that dealing with Dell was a complete waste of my time, I sent an email to cancel my order. Six days later I receive an email stating that my order was cancelled because the item is no longer manufactured.
The item is most certainly still being manufactured, and I would hope 6 days is long enough to process a cancellation request.
I now believe Dell is run by robots. If an automated system is all the problem resolution you'll ever need, maybe you'll be alright, but if you ever need someone to understand and solve your problems you'll have to look elsewhere."
"Dell'ed
Ordered an XP and it came in damaged. I didn't even tell them and fixed it myself...no problem. When I ordered it I was told "12 month free financing" however when I received my first bill it was at a high interest rate. I called them and they refused to fix the problem. They told me the only thing I could do was return it and so I did. That's when the fun started. They continued charging me. I spent hours on the phone. I literally spent hours on the phone with people I could barely understand. I was told 2 or 3 times they had resolved it. It was never resolved. One of the persons I spoke with even asked to write a letter thanking her for taking care of it. They would put me on hold and then cut me off...over and over...What do they want me to do? Pay for a computer that I don't have? What a joke. I am still working on getting it removed from my credit report. I have spread the word far and wide to my friends, enemies and family warning them against "Dell He1l". I'm currently helping with the specs on a new Fairfield Inn prototype and one of my few requests was no Dell computers! How long will it take Staples, Wal-Mart and Best Buy to distance themselves from this type of product? Sorry to vent like that but I'm terribly mad over this."
"I placed an order for an MSI 8800GT on 11/28. They said the item was in stock. After 2 days, it went on backorder. After waiting patiently and getting a 2nd delay notification, I cancelled on 12/20. Dell, please do not sell stuff you don't have. Terrible experience."
"Hopeless. No commitment. They just cancelled my order saying that the coupon that they gave me was issued in error."
"I was one of the unfortunates who signed on to buy one of the 8800GT video cards from Dell when they had them on special offer. The gave a ship date of about two weeks, then they tacked on another two weeks, followed by another couple weeks, before finally cancelling my order. I did speak to them a few times and they assured me the order would go through and that everything was good, although it sounded more like they were guessing than anything. Very disappointed in the service and their operation. If they took on too many orders, they should have been upfront and honest instead of deceptive."
"I am the director of I.T. for a midsized company located in WI, have been dealing with the business department for several years and have never had any issues. I know as a business customer you receive North American Tech Support, fast shipping, great warranty and awesome customer service. I see most if not all of the reviews are from home users and the feedback is negative but the business side is not bad at all. In December I purchased 2 new computers from dells Home user section of the website and I admit if it was not for the push from my Business sales guy the gifts would never have made it on time. My experience with Dell has been positive, I will continue to do business with them and hope the business support remains in America. Last year I took our company through a Technology refresh, we purchased 40 Desktops, 10 Laptops and 3 servers, and yesterday I purchased 2 more servers without hesitation.

"Another "victim" of the now infamous msi 8800gt scandal. I Placed my order 11/24/07 with a ship date of 12/10 that never happened. Everytime the ship date arrived, they delayed another week. This went on for a few weeks, until the other day i logged in to check the status and it was cancelled. No email, no notification or anything. I was chatting with tech support twice, and they did not do a damn thing for me. I got a few different answers and was basically told, sorry, you're out of luck. I didn't think ordering from them would be like a lottery to get the item or not. I've ordered from them in the past without incident, but this will most likely be the last time i ever order from them. Absolutley dishonorable service and very unprofessional conduct by such a large company. Oh and by the way, all the indian tech support SUCKS!!"
"Terrible. I've read the news stories about Dell's service and now I understand first hand. Ordered a webcam (the price was the lowest I could find) on 12/14/07 as a Christmas gift. They didn't tell me until after the order was confirmed that the est. ship date was Jan. 4. On Jan. 4 I got an email that the new est. ship date is Jan. 16. So much for being a Christmas present! I contacted Dell's support via email and phone and just got the run around. In the future I will pay more to use anyone else but Dell."
"I ordered a video card during the thanksgiving special sale on game equipment. It was scheduled for shipment on 12/2/2007, then delayed to 12/10/2007 then delayed to 12/17/2007, then to 12/26, then to 1/4/2008, now to 1/26/2008.
Customer service is in India and they have no clue what's going on nor can they communicate properly. I contacted them several different times. One rep says the product is no longer manufactured. Another says it will ship on time. Another offered me free next-day shipping to keep the order. Another tried to cancel the order because they thought it wouldn't ship. Yet still another offered me a $25.00 discount when the order ships for me to keep the order.
It just doesn't make sense. One of these reps is lying. This is just poor order taking and customer service."
"I bought a Canon Camera bag from Dell before the holiday and they sent me a Targus laptop bag. Email replies from their customer service is very sluggish. Almost two weeks after I first ordered the bag, they still havn't sent out the camera bag!
Now they claim the item is out of stock. I don't understand how Dell is making money. I'll try my luck to get my money back."
"I don't understand how Dell is still in business. Our family bought my mother in law gift certificates from Dell to use toward a new computer. We attempted to purchase the computer using the gift certificates but had a difficult time applying the gift cards at check out. I contacted Dell and worked with a sales rep for over an hour and he had no clue how to apply the gift cards. (You'd think this would be a standard practice) He then transfered me to an Asian man who did not speak clear english. I had to explain the situation again and after another thirty minutes he finally told me I couldn't use the gift cards and put the computer on a Dell preferred card (dell credit card). Why not? What's the difference? If I would have known we couldn't use the gift cards in unison with the dell credit card we would have simply given my mother in law money at christmas so she could apply it to the computer and put the rest on her preferred card. I asked if I could return the gift cards so we could use the money to buy a computer from them and the answer was no lol. So instead of getting 150$ off her computer we had to put money toward a printer we really didn't need on a separate order and we still have 50$ left over. I will never buy from Dell again. I always assumed Dell was a good company from the popularity but looking at there score of 1.8 on here I see I'm not the only one upset with Dell. If you want a computer shop newegg.com. They have a rating of 9.8 and they've always been wonderful. "
"seriously one of the most unprofessional companies out there. Im an office manager for a company of 1,000 people. Most of those employees have Dells. Guess what, when it comes to upgrading computers next month, I am going with someone else. I will be canceling my business account shortly. When speaking to customer CARE, in a kindly manner they told me to "f*ck off" and stop calling. "
"I ordered 2 Logitech MX Revolution mice from them since they were selling them for like 40 bucks each and it was a great deal. Everything went fine initially and the mice arrived alright however 1 of them was faulty. I called them up on 11/29/07 and the guy setup a replacement order with next day shipping which was supposed to be shipped out on 12/5/07. Quite often 1 lady would call me tell me they don't have the mouse in stock, blah blah and their site also showed Usually ships in 6 weeks (even though all other retailers had it available without any problems). However about 2 weeks ago (today is Jan 3, 2008) they changed it to Usually ships in 24 hours but still didn't ship out my mouse. Their email customer service is even worse and their responses usually made me wonder if a robot was replying to my emails. I got so sick that I threw away the mouse and called them up yesterday to cancel my order (emailing them to cancel the order was also a pain and guy would tell me the order is under production and will ship out soon so it cannot be cancelled). I'm through with dell... never ever shopping at their site again. Having their customer service center's based in India doesn't help much either (and I am an Indian myself btw)."
"I ordered a MSI 8000GT video card as a xmas gift on Nov 24, 2007. Thought it was early enough for Dec 25th, but DELL never fulfill the order. Contacted several times regarding the order, but never solved. and they made no promise on when the item will be shipped. i will stay away from DELL from now on, just my little penny."
