"What's happend to Dell?? I've had some minor issues here and there over the years but have been pleased overall with their products and customer service. At times they outright surprised me with their prompt service and delivery.
Lately however, things are going south in the express lane. I'm still waiting on the balance of an order placed on the 23rd of September for a couple of Sandisk Ultra II cards and a Sandisk 8 in 1 reader that were all supposed to be "in stock" with a promise of 3-5 business days. When the shipment arrived, only the card reader was enclosed. Calling early last week to inquire about the missing cards, I got a customer care person who PROMISED delivery by the end of last week.
Calling again now to see what happened to my "promise", I'm gettting the run around and after a 90min wait, the phone shuffle is turning into a slow burn that's getting hotter with each word I type. Going on 25min waiting for the next "next available representive" and listening to what sounds like a third generation 8-track recording on a wally world phone system that's just barely legible.
Earlier today I tried purchasing a refurbished system online only to get an error message when I hit the "add to cart" button. No problem, I'm thinking maybe someone jumped in on it before I did. Well, two more systems later with the same message and things aren't adding up. I cleared the cache but got the same result, wxcept the systems aren't available anymore when I do a search. So they are being updated. Either I'm not fast enough on the trigger or something is broke with the cart button. I tend to think the latter and put off calling Dell CS till now. And here I still sit with a pinched neck and broken heart at what's happening to Dell."
"I have never in my life been conned so badly by a major international company.
I took up their web site offer to purchase a Dell 4700 with free flat screen upgrade.
When it arrived the free upgrade was not included.
I rang their customer service number to be told I had received what I ordered.
I could not get put through to a manager.
I was twice promised a manager would call me back, but no one ever did.
Also when I tried to order on line it kept including the three year service package that I DID NOT WANT.
Before placing the order on line I called their sales number to order it by phone. Only to be told by the sales rep Mr Andy Smyth that he could not find the offer with a FREE FLATSCREEN upgrade.
I even e-mailed him a copy of the DELL web page because he claimed he was unable to locate the web page, despit me giving him the page's full address.
SHOULD I HAVE SMELLED A RAT THEN?
All I can say is that I will never buy from DELL again, and I will do everything in my power to dissuade other people from using them.
Note I have entered my order number because I have not received an invoice."
"The PDA was amazing and I really like it alot. It fulfilled all my needs.

" I BOUGHT A VIDEO CARD FROM DELL IWANTED TO RETURN IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT OF UPGRADING I WOULD JUST BUY A NEW COMPUTER FROM DELL WOW THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS REAL BAD THEY SCHEDULED FOUR PICK UPS FOR THE ONE CARD THE PEOPLE IN INDIA DO NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH! "Just letting anyone know who's curious that DELL CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AS OXYMORONIC AS 'MILITARY INTELLIGENCE'.
The people at Dell must have NO CLUE how frustrating it is to deal with their idiotic 'service' people. I have a Dell printer. BIG MISTAKE. Just ordering an ink cartridge refill is a major headache.
Ugggg."
"I would never buy a computer from Dell, but as others said, when buying 3rd party peripherals from Dell there's nothing to worry about.
Dell had an awesome deal on a Mitsubishi 930SB monitor, 10% off and free shipping. The best price I could find.
I was told that I should expect to wait at least a week before it could be processed and shipped, and then wait 5 business days for the shipping itself. To my complete surprise and joy, Dell got me my monitor 4 business days after I ordered it.
I won't hesitate to buy again from Dell if the I find another good deal."
"Overall Dell is great. Good prices & deals on a variety of products. Customer service isn't the best tho. I have nothing against foreigners but it is extremely difficult to communicate with the reps beyond the basic placing of an order, and I'm usually transferred from one rep to another, and each one makes me repeat my name, address, phone number, order #, etc. The website isn't as efficient as it could be, as I often have login problems and it's hard to find the link to contact them."
"From reading these reviews I have to say I would think twice about buying a computer from Dell, but I would, in a heartbeat, buy peripherals, etc. after my FANTASTIC experience!!
I ordered a brand-new Canon A95 yesterday at 10 AM, along with a CF card and a Canon i960 printer. Got 10% off everything plus another $40 with a code, plus free 3-5 ground shipping.
I got home from work today and my packages awaited me!! They were delivered LESS than 24 hours after I ordered, unreal!! Now I am still waiting for hte CF card, but the camera comes with a 32 MB one, and the card will be delievered tomorrow (it came from a different distrib. center).
Gotta love overnight free shipping and a hell of a deal on a hot camera!!"
"I purchased a Demension 8400. My choice of a Dell was based partly on my experience of helping a neighbor setup his new Dell and how easy it was. I ordered the X800 video card upgrade and had to wait an extra week. I received free shipping, an extra 512MB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. The free shipping saved me $99. The bottom line is that Dell did everything they said they would and so far I hav'nt had to deal with tech support. I am very satisfied with their product."
"I bought a top of the line Dell notebook, as I had heard so many wonderful things about the products they sell, their great tech support, etc. I received my Notebook and was VERY pleased with it. I had NO problems whatsoever with it, and thought, all in all, it was a great experience with Dell.
Then I had a minor problem and had to call tech support.... I got thru almost immediately to a person, but in all seriousness, no kidding or joking, I could not understand but maybe 1 word in 10 that the women was saying! This is truly no exageration! I kept saying "I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are saying, could I PLEASE talk to someone else?" Finally after 5 or so minutes I gave up and hung up. I called back and the next person I could understand maybe every other word. From what I came to find out Dell has outsourced their tech support to India, which is why I was having the language barrier issue. I never did get my issue resolved, and I know not to ever bother calling back. I guess this is one way Dell keeps their costs down, huh?
Well, my mother in law just bought a notebook from Dell. When I heard I tried to get her to cancel the order, because I know she would need tech support. She is not terribly computer literate. Her system had a problem out of the box. The CD drive shakes and rattles so bad you cannot hardly type while it is reading from the CD! She called tech support and is going through the same issue I did. I really don't know what to tell her, other than maybe trying to email them. I guess I would tell people if you want a pretty good system at a reasonable price you could do worse than Dell, but just pretend that there is NO tech support available. You take your own chances. I would NEVER buy another product from Dell.
PS: I sure hope I did not come across as a racist red neck here. I have no problem with other nationalities trying to make a living. It's just that if Dell is selling me a product and talking about their great tech support, it's not so great if I can't communicate with them!"
"You would think that after 16 hours of hassle and letters to the BBB and TX Atorney General Dell would start trying to work with me. Nope. They sent part of the order and got it wrong - another hour on the phone getting that straigtened out. My laptop was delayed four days for an unexplained reason. And for all my wasted time they offered me a piece of junk printer or, if I could produce the original fax I had sent them in JULY proving I had asked to have my billing address changed, they would deduct $200 from my lease.
Now, I just don't happen to clean off my outgoing fax machine tray very often so I had the original fax. But, what kind of idiotic condition is that for getting a credit?"
"I placed a order for an advertised LCD screen and the next day they say the estimated ship date is OVER a month late. I was ordering for a birthday so I did the 'live chat' to see what the backorder was and if I had to just cancel.. VERY UNHELPFUL. "
"What happened to dell?.... They used to be good... Now I do not recommend utilizing them for use... Here is why
1. Sub par technical support... Unless you are an indian (from india) good luck dealing with their support reps... 9 out of my 10 calls landed me in a suport que in india or some distant land with the support guy speeking ESL (english as a second language.)
2. the ESL product rep would not LISTEN to me... I have been working on computers for over 5 years, so I know the in's and outs of basic trouble shooting... I had to re-trouble shoot my issue, after I had already identified the problem (power supply popped and sparks flew out of the machine, Power supply fired)
2.)the idiot in india wanted me to unpug the workstation then plug it back in... He then wanted to see if it would boot... I told him ... it was dead, but obviosly he didn't understand me, even though I spoke very very slowly.
3.) Even though I had a full system warrenty, Dell has made me wait in line as though I was purchasing a new workstation.
4.) Dell messed up my return and some how, the workstation got held up in "the approval process" over a month later and I still do not have a replacement workstation to cover something that broke UNDER WARRANTY
Due to the fact that I have been on hold for over 20 minutes, transfered from one department to another and their service reps don't care when I get my replacemnet, I will be makeing all computer from another company
This is what happens when you try to save some money by out sourcing.... Bad service abraod, and workers who don't care about service because their jobs might be outsourced too..."
"Lightning quick service!! I purchased a Panasonic PV-GS120 camcorder on 1/22/05 at a good price using coupons I found at techbargains.com. The order was confirmed the next day and shipped out the same day. I received the item on 1/24/05. Now that's quick! I didn't deal with customer service this time because of the fast shipment, but from my previous experience with their customer service department, they are very helpful and accomodating. I had no problems returning multiple items and getting them to pay for the return shipping and getting my refund in a timely fashion. I really don't know what the other comments are all about."
"I jumped on one of the recent 2001FP deals from the Dell Home webpage, when the coupons brought the LCD's price down to $700. The order was confirmed the same day, and was then in limbo for two days before it shipped via UPS. Once it shipped, it arrived in three days, earlier than Dell's original estimate and even a day earlier than UPS' own tracking system told me.
The only complaint I could have about the whole deal was that UPS' tracking didn't bother to update after it left the pickup location, heh. Otherwise, everything has gone just fine."
