"I will never deal with this company again. Goods arrived dead (PC and monitor), took about a dozen phone calls and a letter by recorded post to get them to take the goods back (2 months later). Am still waiting as I type for a refund, which has taken numerous phone calls to arrange. Have passed the matter on to my credit card company."
"I called Dell and wanted to upgrade my graphics card. The person who answered the phone was confused about what a graphics card was. They couldn't speak english very well. I was put on hold for several minutes. When the person came back on the line they asked me if I would like a larger hard drive with my memory upgrade. I explained that I didn't want a memory upgrade I was calling about a graphics card. I paid for next day air shipping but it was sent 2nd business day. It came in a plain brown box with no instructions or drivers. I installed it and it didn't work. I called tech support and all they would say is return it and we'll send another one. Similar confusion on their part. I returned it and got a second one after several calls with extreme discomfort. Same thing it didn't work. Both cards were used. I called tech support again a guy answered that could barely speak english. After about an hour on the phone he said the card wouldn't work in my machine and I already had the best card I could use in my machine. He was sorry that the sales people sold me a card that wouldn't work in my machine.
In total I had to make about 7 phone calls and spent about 5 hours on the phone and I'm right where I started except I have to call again and set up a return for this second card that didn't work. I might throw it out and just take the $150 loss to avoid speaking with another one of their employees. I'll never buy Dell again.
Dell still advertises "Award Winning Tech Support" even though this was before they fired all the Americans and offshored their tech support to India. There should be a law against making a claim like this. Could an auto maker advertise this years model with claims from safety stats on models designed 5 years ago?

"I have found Dell to be astoundingly dishonest and unprofessional. Two defective Inspiron 9100's in a row. More than 20 hours, total, of my time trying to get Dell to do something about the 1st "dead on arrival" and then dealing with the replacement corpse that they sent.
The techs who respond to emails could not possibly read the emails that they are sent, as their replies never discuss the issue at hand.
Their customer service people do not respond to letters, faxes or emails, except to "pass the buck" to another department.
I've had to contact the Texas Attorney General's office as well as its counterpart in my state of residence.
Stay away from Dell."
"Used a Dell 20% coupon and got an awesome deal! Computer was received in less than a week from order date with 3-5 days shipping. Have not had any problems."
" I've ordered systems from Dell in the past and have never had any problems with them. However, this time around, it was a true nightmare.
My biggest complaint is their Customer Service. Not only do they not speak English well, but they haven't a clue about anything computer related. Now this is to be expected these days. Seems like anywhere you call to order something, they rarely know anything about it. But come on, I'm so tired of putting up with it. And when I'm ordering something as important as a computer, I want to be able to ask questions of these ppl and get a straight answer. One gal told me that the chassis in one model made all games run faster.
Another guy I talked to when I was transfered to the parts department didn't even know what a video card was. AT ALL. It took alot of explaining to get to a point where he could look up anything I asked. It also took 3 or 4 repetitions of the card I was interested in. He couldn't understand english well enough. Even after I had told him the card I was looking for, he kept telling me about things I wasn't interested in. After going through all that I just told him nevermind and hung up.
So I ended up ordering a system via the website. Now I liked what I saw because of two things primarily. Free 2 day shipping and the build time was faster than any other place I was looking at. After going through the picking process (and taking the video card that came with it) I got to Checkout. Now at the checkout place it said Free 3-5 day shipping. And if I had checked 2 day shipping, it was going to cost 125 dollars. That really irked me. So I called Dell yet again and told the CS guy about it. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and so I told him to look at his own website to verify the free 2 day shipping. After doing so, he offered to place the order through the phone for me and give me free shipping since the website was messed up. Reluctantly I agreed, since in the past they have messed up orders this way. At least online, you know what you are getting first hand. After going through the order, he asks me to hold and then comes back and tells me my Free upgrade to 250 gig HD isn't available and why don't I take 120 gig hd. I'm to frustrated at this point and tell him to just forget the whole order and hang up.
Now I'm at my wits end. I'm TRULY ready to go elsewhere at this point. I had been researching prices at Alienware, VoodooPC, Cyberpower and even FalconNW. But dell's prices were more in my price range and the build and ship time was the fastest.
I waited a couple of days trying to figure out what to do. I checked Dell one last time and they had changed the Checkout to the advertised 2 day free shipping. But wait, no not ENTIRELY free. If you picked 2 day shipping, it was going to cost you 3 bucks. Sure that is better than 125 dollars but that is not free either.
I decide to go ahead and get the dell system because of the price being cheaper than the other places. Now I've placed my order online and wait for the confirmation. I get that the next day and the build time is only a few days. After that point, I get a shipping email and check it out eagerly ONLY to find that my ship time is now 3 to 5 days. It says I PICKED 3 to 5 days. I'm so frustrated now. It seems Dell is doing Everything to get out of abiding by their advertised specials.
I call Dell again and they tell me over the phone that it is a mistake and it is really going out 2 day ground. So I have to sit tight and wait. Well the free printer comes on a thursday. They both shipped out same day it says. (on the shipping invoice email it says 2 day shipping for the printer and 3-5 day shipping on the computer system)
I'm so frustrated now, I'm ready to send everythign back. My husband tells me to just wait and see if we get it Friday. Friday comes and goes and no computer. So definitly did not ship the 2 days they said it would. I do not know for sure if they would ship it on a Saturday but I'm hopeful. It doesn't come then either.
Monday morning I check my order on the Dell website and the update section says something like this:
Updated last, Monday August 2nd, 2004. Your order should arrive July 29th, 2004.
But what can I do? I could cancel but the system should be here today or tomorrow at the latest I hope. Finally it arrives late afternoon.
It really only took a bit over 8 days for the system to arrive after I had placed the order. That is faster than any other place I researched. However, its just annoying to pick one option and not get it. I didn't have to pay for the shipping so there is that. And their Customer Service ppl are a bunch of idiots.
I highly recommend going elsewhere until Dell gets their act together. They used to be a pretty good company to buy from. On the other hand, the system runs great and I've had no problems with it.

"It pays to go to the top. I finally got a response from the Dell corporate office. The man straightened the warranty mess out and could not have been nicer. I am now totally satisfied."
"Hard to reach customer service. Customer service refuse to offer any alternative means to solve the problem. Warranty is still active, but dell still advise us to go directly to the manufacture."
"I purchased a DP2070SB 22" CRT. When it arrived there was a fist size whole in the box, also when I asked was the product in stock the person said yes but after I gave them my CC number and recieved an email the next day suddenly it was back ordered and will take aprrox 10 days to recieve hmm. I called cust service to help with a tracking issue and they transfered me twice and then I finally spoke to a lady (who was nice) but very broken english and after being put on hold so she could ask someone how to help me she comes back and says ok we will fix it and never did, so I couldnt track my package. The price was the cheapest, but I feel I was lied to twice and cust service needs have english speaking reps for the english speaking people who purchase here. I will not order here again ill pay the extra 30 dollars. Horrible place"
"Dell is making the resolution of a Dell caused problem as difficult as possible. I placed an order for an item correctly, according to Dell. I received the wrong merchandise. From that moment forward, Dell consistently put every conceivable roadblock up to make the return/reorder process as obscure and frustrating as I can imagine. Horrible phone trees, clueless phone and instant (Hah!) online support is no help and are so scripted that you have no idea what will happen next. Days pass and what they said would happen...doesn't. Serialized support records are unavailable and nobody knows anything about me or my problem. It's been a few weeks now and I'm still trying to get Dell to commit to anything. Oh, I am getting mail that I am being charged for the replacement merchandise. I guess they figured out how to do that much...after all. Do yourself a favor and don't get sucked in by price... Your time and peace of mind is worth much more than any deal you think you are getting from Dell."
"I recently purchased the Audigy 2 ZS from Dell. The sound card came with a $15 Mail-In-Rebate. The rebate was linked from the product page, but when you clicked on the pdf file you would get a "Page Not Found". No problem, I waited a couple of days to see if the error would get fixed. Then I re-visit the page and the MIR link was completely gone. I call up Dell Customer Support and they claim there was no such rebate. So it looks as if this product is on it's way back to Dell. So beware when using Dell Mail-In-Rebates. Make certain you get them printed out before purchasing the product."
"I have been given 6 different dates to receive my computer and it hasn't been delivered yet. Not only has it not been delivered yet, they haven't even started building it yet. I have talked to numerous representitives and none of them can give me an answer as to when I can expect it. Nobody will even give me an order number for it."
"Fantastic LCD monitor. No dead pixels, fantastic auto-resize feature, I absolutely love it. Great shipping, it got here in about three days!"
"Surprised to see so many complains.
I bought Dell's 600m laptop twice and have not had any thing bad. The first was in April for a friend from overseas and he said he had no problems. I just order another one last week and it arrived yesterday. Billing and shipping processes were smooth. I will have to wait to see how the quality is.
"
"I placed an order for Inspiron 9100 last night.
Dell.com is stating that all the inspiron notebooks are 10% off instantly, and free 3-5 day shipping. (which is $49) i got through everything smoothly and saw the discounts on the page along with the free shipping charge.
This morning, i check my email. i see my invioce with +49 dollars for shipping. what kinda business are they running? scamming people with the shipping charges?
I had to be on the phone for about 45 mins with one of the dell's rep, and they refuse to refund back my 49 dollars that they charged thru my CC.
sadly, i was given $50 dell online coupon.
RIDICULOUS!"
"The computer came and would either boot up and freeze or not boot at all. I was not worried because I have a dell work laptop and thought it would be an easy exchange. Well, first assumption get drilled. It took me 3 hours, 11 minutes, and 54 seconds to get a return number. I hope it actually works. Wow am I glad I spent extra on extended support, would still be on the phone otherwise. It was the 7th call and finally just speaker phoned it through all the transfers and waited it out. The other calls I had hung up after 20 minute minimum on hold. "
