"Do not do business with this company online. Ordered what was advertised as a Garmin Edge 305 GPS with heart rate monitor for my bike. Received the item and turned it on and found massive amounts of workout history on it. They had sold me a used piece of equipment! No where on the website does it say "used" or "refurbished". I should have listened to the reviews on this site before purchasing. Big mistake!!!"

"I was hesitant ordering from dickssportinggoods.com based on the lack of feedback here and the fact you can't return online orders in-store, but everything went well and I was pleased with the order.

I ordered a set of golf clubs on a Saturday, they shipped on Monday, and arrived (in MD) Wednesday; that was with the free standard ground shipping. Everything arrived in good condition, without a problem.

"The nightmare began when I foolishly decided to purchase a bicycle for my girlfriend's birthday from www.Dickssportinggoods.com on April 16, nearly three weeks prior to her birthday party on May 2. A reasonable amount of time for handling, shipping and assembly, I thought.

I was very wrong.

The troubles began when I attempted to use the "Bill-me-later" option on your website, lured by 90 days of free interest. I had used "Bill-me-later" only a few weeks earlier to buy myself a bicycle from another sporting goods site, so I figured it would be convenient to use it again. However, this was not the case - The purchase was declined immediately, with absolutely no reason given from Dick's web site. After calling Dick's and speaking to a customer support representative who seemed to care little about his job and even less about my issues with my purchase, your rep promptly distanced himself from the issue and told me to talk to Bill-me-later directly.

After working with Bill-me-later for a number of days (with absolutely no help from Dick's), we finally got the issue resolved and the order went through. The issue was with Dick's website, which was down for some reason and prevented the order from going through. Regardless, I finally got the confirmation email from Dick's on April 23, a full 6 days after initializing the transaction.

The bicycle and all of my other ordered goodies arrived on-time a week later, around April 30. This was great, as I had plenty of time to assemble my girlfriend's bike before she got into town that weekend.

Except...the boxes that my merchandise was shipped in were nearly destroyed. The box that held my girlfriend's helmet was ripped apart and partially crushed, but fortunately the helmet was intact. Not so much for the bicycle box and it's contents, which each apparently received the same fate. The large bicycle box (which cost me around $25 for shipping!) was completely ripped open, with large gashes torn into all sides of it. There is no excuse for shipping something in this condition, especially when an object inside has so many small parts that could have fallen out.

The bicycle itself was in terrible condition. The decorative stickers were applied wrinkled and crooked, and the rubber on the handles, as well as the paint, was scuffed and marked. The pre-installed gear-shifter sat crooked on the right handlebar, totally misalligned from the rubber handgrip. The whole thing looked like it was put together using slave labor.
It also looked incredibly cheap, like a trinket from a gumball machine. This wasn't the most expensive bike available, but if I was looking for bargain basement prices and quality I would have bought a used bicycle. I expect a new product that I buy to at least look new!

All of this would have been tolerable if the bicycle had come with a seat, which it did NOT. I now had a partially assembled bike for my girlfriend's birthday with no safe way to ride it.

Upon calling Dick's Customer Service, they once again distanced themselves from the situation by suggesting I call the manufacturer, Huffy. Dick's made it clear to me that their "brick-and-mortar" locations have nothing to do with www.dickssportinggoods.com, and in fact don't even carry many of the same products, nor do they support them.

The Dick's Customer Service reps that I spoke to were completely uninterested in the fact that I made my purchase through THEM, not Huffy, and not only were they unwilling to check to see if they had another bicycle that they could quickly send me, they wanted nothing to do with calling Huffy, something that they felt was apparently was my job. Nice punishment for doing business with Dick's. They were gracious enough to give me the customer support number for Huffy. This saved me five seconds on the internet, compared to the hours of time I had already spent attempting to complete this tiring transaction with them.

The actual bicycle seat finally came about a week later. I was excited, thanks to Huffy's responsive product support. The seat matched the bike and looked decent compared to all of the other flaws and scuffs that were present from the moment I opened the box. A little tweaking here and there and some boyfriend TLC would have been just what the bike needed, except...the shipped seat post was the wrong size.

Nearly a month later and I STILL did not have the complete product that I had originally ordered from Dick's. Fortunately I was able to borrow a seat and seat-post from my father that fit the bike, so my girlfriend was able to ride the bicycle, but it still looked like a mismatched, used bike made of spare parts, and my father was now out of a bicycle seat.
I called Huffy directly (by this point it was apparent that Dick's has no interest in helping me or standing by it's products or customers) and Huffy promptly sent me out a new seat post for the second time. It arrived just last week.

Here it is, June 4th - over a month and a half after initializing this transaction with Dick's Sporting Goods, and my girlfriend STILL has not seen her completed birthday present. She will be back in town on June 21st, where she will finally get to ride her completed bicycle. By the time she does, it will have taken two full months of embarassment, frustration, anger and an INCREDIBLE amount of wasted time to get to this point. This was her first birthday with me as her boyfriend, and due to these issues I was unable to give her a gift even worth using. This is unacceptable.

My experience with www.dickssportinggoods.com and Dick's Sporting Goods in general has been absolutely horrendous. I don't understand why I would ever do business with these companies ever again.

"We ordered a softball bat from Dick's online on 5/11/08. They were offering free regular shipping but we paid for Priority Mail as we needed it quickly for our daughter's games. Although the item was listed as "in stock" it did not leave the warehouse until the afternoon of the 13th. The package has made five more stops and as of now, the evening of 5/16/08, it is still in Edison, NJ (We live in Woodridge, NY). Five days and arrival at our doorstep is nowhere in sight. Had we known then what we know now, we'd have ordered it elsewhere."

"Bought a red dot scope for my 22 rifle. Scope mounts were to large for my 22 so I had to return the item. Dicks does not refund any shipping cost coming or going so I ended up paying $17.24 out of pocket for a $49.99 item. I find this unacceptable and will not shop Dick's again."

"Ordered their venture trizone heated fleece as an X-MAS present. The heater remote didn't fully work and the 2 zones on the back of the jacket never heated up. Returned item and paid for shipping costs to send back. Reordered because they don't have an xchange policy and was sent the _SAME EXACT_ jacket I had returned in the first place. Tried to get them to send me a new jacket--before winter was over--while waiting on a return label to mail the old one back and was lied to on the phone saying they were now out of stock and would be on back order (probably until they received the damaged one back from me); however, seconds before the sales lady was ready to sell me one and was 100% sure they were in stock and ready to ship in 1 to 2 business days before I asked to speak with her supervisor. Overall, horrible customer service, horrible products for that matter. Their gym equipment is cheaply made garbage that breaks within a year too. About the only thing I'd buy from the store are dumbells and fishing lures, but I'll never buy anything online from them again. VERY DISSATISFIED!!"

"Ordered a logo blanket. Received completely different (and 25% cheaper) item. Rep claimed web site photo was "only a sample" and that you don't necessarily get what's pictured. Rep kept insisting that they sent the correct item and that the problem was simply that I was "not pleased with" the item. I pointed out that the brick and mortar (B&M) store had the exact same item at the cheaper price, but the rep stated the online and B&M store are separate entities.

After some polite wrangling, rep acknowledged they might have sent the wrong item. RMA went okay (they e-mailed a prepaid label), except that they didn't refund the original shipping as phone rep promised (since mistake was on their side).

Would not recommend shopping here unless you like taking the chance that you won't get what you expected. Selection is good, but if they cannot deliver what they promise, good selection is useless. In addition, all their prices are pretty much MSRP, and you can definitely find better deals elsewhere.

"Dicks prices aren't that special, but I found a 15% off online coupon so I used them. They offered free ground shipping. I ordered a Wilson tennis racquet with the free stringing option. When it arrived, it was the wrong brand tennis racquet and the strings were broken! ??? I called customer support and they said to send it back and then reorder a new one. Uh, yeah, that's efficient. Realizing they were one of these jerk companies that won't correct their error, but instead rely on you to first prove they screwed up, I said fine, just go ahead and reorder now. I said however I needed it yesterday, and it's your screwup so I want the overnight shipping expedited. They said they can't do that. I said it's says right here satisfaction guaranteed and that I'm not too terribly satisfied if I have to wait another 2 weeks. That isn't satisfaction guaranteed. She had to ask her supervisor, etc. Finally I got the free shipping (we'll see) and then I had to battle her for the 15% off that I found online. Then there was some crap about not getting the 15% off the sales tax. I checked, and online it did take the 15% off the pre-sales tax price. So, as it stands, I'm waiting to see if the shipment actually comes faster, correct, and priced correctly. My new price after customer service is already $4 more that my original price. WTF. These guys have freakin issues. Once I get the racquet from there and my cc has been credited correctly and all that, I will never do business again."

"I placed an order 5-8-2007. I requested the order be cancelled 5-9-2007. The checkout and cancellation was made via Google Check Out. The seller did not honor my request to cancel the order. Google Check Out said they would followup. I was informed by seller the item shipped 5-12-2007. The item arrived 5-18-2007. If the color of the order had matched the picture all would have been OK. As it is, I can not recommend Dick's Sporting Goods and have requested that Google Check Out delete my userid and information. "

"This place is just infuriating. I ordered a basketball, and paid extra to have it 3 day shipping. I placed the order early tuesday morning, the 8th, they didn't ship it till 4:00pm friday! I work as a shipper at a pretty big store, and would be fired if I took that long. Problems got worse, because they use FedEx, one of the most incompetent companies ever, and now the estimated delivery date is the 18th!!! Not exactly 3 days. And when I sent an email to Dick's, I got an automated email. Anyone who has an automated response for their customer service emails, should be blacklisted. It wasn't a "we got your email, we'll respond within 24 hours", it was, "this should answer any question you have, too bad if it doesn't". I will never deal with this place again.

"I was overcharged for shipping on an order where I used a gift card and charged the balance to a credit card. The item description screamed "Free Shipping & Free Return Shipping." However when I added it to my shopping cart a shipping charge was included. I called customer service and they said don't worry about it because the shipping charge would be deducted when I complete the transaction. WRONG! I foolishly completed the order and had to call their inept customer service yet again. They did credit the amount back - TO THE GIFT CARD! They refuse to transfer the credit to my credit card from which the overcharge was originally paid. In short, they turn their screw-up to their own advantage by requiring me to make another purchase from them.

From the looks of their ratings, this unmitigated audacity is very myopic and will cost them dearly in the long run.

"Ordered a softball bat that was on sale online only. Pretty good selection of bats, far superior to what they had in-store. Price was very competitive. Ordering process was easy, but if you have a Dick's Scorecard, I did not see a way for the purchase to be credited to your account. That was a little disappointing.

I picked the free shipping option, because I was in no big hurry to get the bat. They lay it out on the site that it will take awhile. It took about 11 days for the bat to get to my house, package in a plain brown box, with packing inside to ensure the bat wouldn't shift around a lot. Item was in great condition. Had a very good experience. If you need an item sooner than about 2 weeks, however, go ahead and pay for the shipping.
