"Had the worst experience with Gainsaver I have EVER had with any purchase online. I bought a 2.66 ghz 20" Imac from them a few weeks ago. After having it for a week, the display ceased functioning. I queried customer service and received a RMA number and was instructed to return the product via UPS.
UPS return shipping was $75. When I contacted Gainsaver to see if there was some flexibility on the shipping, I was informed that since they would re-frieght the return we were in effect splitting the cost. I paid shipping initially for the product so that's factually wrong.
My wife got a customer service follow up up call saying that they had received the return and would be replacing the unit. She asked if they would maybe consider an extended warranty on the replacement in lieu of a refund on the shipping. This was a warranty issue and the product clearly did not perform as expected within the 30 day period. They replied that their policy was that the customer is responsible for all return freight, but if I wanted to speak to them to please call back.
I did this and reached a customer service rep. When I explained the situation, his response was that it was impossible to refund freight charges. I suggested a number of alternatives to which he countered that this was refunding freight in essence. Before I lost my temper I excused my self and hung up.
I then waited another week while my order status remained in "processing" I put in a customer service request online to find out what the hold up was. The email from Customer service described the difficulty in obtaining a replacement machine and politely suggested I cancel my order if this was not satisfactory. They had already charged my card for the initial purchase, I'll point out.
A few days later, another email from customer service informing me of a problem with the order and would I please call. The rep informed me that they had no identical replacement machines and would I take a 2.2 ghz model with identical configuration? There would be a price break of $25. Fine. Whatever. Just ship the damn box.
2 more emails today: a shipping notification and a gift certificate for $25 toward my next purchase at Gainsaver. The certificate expires in 30 days.
Biggest bunch of losers ever in the history of online retail. Never buying anything from them again. Don't you either."
