"Several days after I placed my order on Gigaparts web store, I received an email from their customer 'service' telling me that Gigaparts' inventory system had malfunctioned and one of the critical items I had ordered was not in stock and was not expected to become in stock any time in the future. The original offer was to ship the order omitting that item. No mention was made of reducing the shipping costs. Since the shipping costs were already higher than other on-line merchants (I guess Gigaparts has never heard of flat-rate shipping from the USPS) I requested that the order be canceled and a refund issued. A couple of days later I got a refund through PayPal. Part of the problem also appears to be that Gigaparts seems to be trying to recoup profit margin through shipping charges, in my opinion."

I see that you placed your order on Friday, after order cutoff, and we notified you on Monday. I'm very sorry for the inventory problem! Monday would have been the first warehouse business day after your order placement for it to be discovered and notify you. Had you proceeded with your order we would have reduced the amount of the shipping accordingly.
The shipping charges do include several things other than just what we pay to the carrier to transport your items. Our shipping fee includes processing and handling your order from start to finish. It takes multiple people to process and pack your order, as well as supplies to package the item(s), and the cost the carrier charges us. While we do not want you to feel this fee is unreasonable, I hope this better explains as to how the fee is calculated and divided among what it takes to get an order processed and on the way for delivery. If it ever seems to be too high we are glad to get a shipping quote from our warehouse to be sure the website is calculating correctly.
