Home addition 2015

"We used a recommended person to build an addition. Bottom line is the person wasn't qualified and he subcontracted out the jon to an ex con. Needless to say I got rid of these folks. I would seriously question Home Advisor's claim that they screen contractors. I would never use them again."

Stay away

"I scheduled an appointment to have my squeaking stairs repaired. I even supplied the material to repair. Waited for 5 hours and the guy was a no show. His number was also disconnected. How unprofessional do you get? Wish I’d read the reviews. Awaiting my refund. Stay away from this group. They’re nothing but a scam!"

Monetary and emotion trainwreck,

"Ugly and dirty people who make your life a hell everyday.. Negative and complete horror. They prey on hard working contractors..just a bunch of parasites and leeches. The contractors are treated like garbage because home advisor can get away with it...because the business are desperate for work...Just starting out or don't have enough customers. A few pros are already established and can get by but even those question Home Advisors practices. Stay clear of this scam outfit. They drain your bank account and try to **** you dry of your hard earned money and break your back till you give up...
They will make hate your self for signing up..don't be fooled by these scammers

Homeadvasor is a paid search service that does not screen or review the firms that pay them to be listed

"As a contractor, I can tell you that I was cold called over 100 times several times a week by aggressive homeadvisor salespeople trying to get me to sign up for thier paid-search service. Paid-search means that I pay them for every lead they provide, whether the lead ends up as a job or not. The more I pay, the more often my company shows up at the top of the list for specific regions. Now, I can also tell you that I have used Homeadvisor in a pinch for concrete work and roof repair. Both of the contractors came highly rated by HA and BOTH WERE TERRIBLE! The concrete contractor was argumentative, made all kinds of excuses, told me the steps he was pouring were bot aligned with the front door because the stoop was not plumb (not true as I measured...and a dumb reason), etc. He was just lazy. The roofing guy was just as bad and would have skipped steps had I not been there to ensure he did the job as bid. Now, let's talk about the deceptive process that Home Advisor uses to get YOUR information. Google "top 10 window installers in (your city). The FIRST ENTRY is Home Advisor. They pay Google a lot of money for that slot. When you click on it, you are asked a bunch of questions about the job, your name and contact information, etc. YOU NEVER SEE THE LIST YOU WERE PROMISED! Instead, you get 10 vendors cold-calling you for your business. Vendors that paid Homne Advisor for your contact information. That is how they make their money. So, that top ten link is essentially a phishing scam to get your information. Do you really want to do business with a company that operates that way? I know I don't. Ask your friends on Facebook or Nextdoor for recommendations instead. I absolutely do not ecommend Home Advisor. "

They don’t care how good a business is...

"I wrote a less than shining review on one landscape company paying HomeAdvisor to be on their web page and it was never posted. Since HomeAdvisor makes money from businesses they support, they will not post low star reviews or vet any companies they advertise. Beware of any business advertised in HomeAdvisor as reviews are not complete and honest. "

HomeAdvisor is very dihonest

"I was scammed by Homeadvisor roughly 4 years ago. The reason I am writing this review now is the many small business owners I see getting sucked into HA's conn causing a financial strain on there businesses.

My story started with a call from HA and after hearing what they had to offer I was interested. I told them I was not interested in any leads but, I was interested in getting a bit of advertising out there. I was told they could accommodate my request for $300 for 1 year. I was told if I wanted leads I could turn them on later. Great! I was sold. I gave them my CC# (big mistake)

The next day I received a lead. I call HA and told them I didn't want any leads. I was refunded for the lead. Little mishap no big deal. Three days later get 2 more leads. Call HA, now Im told they can only turn leads off for three days at a time and I would not be refunded. I tell them to cancel my service. I was told I have a 1 year contract and they will not cancel. Annoyed I figured I would call HA every 3 days and put the leads on hold until my year was up then cancel HA. Worked for while but I missed a few times. The times I didn't get the leads held on time HA would send anywhere from 5 to 10 leads in a short time, most of them not relating to my business. Very shady! At this point I had enough and cancelled my credit card. They were quick to get in touch with me after that and told me I owed them $200. I told them I would pay them once I had proof my HA account was cancelled. They cancelled my account then asked for a credit card to make the final payment to them... I don't think so... Send me an address I can send a check. I was told they do not accept checks and would send me to collections if I did not provided a credit card. I bluffed them and said I am recording the conversation and them refusing to accept my payment will be taken up with the courts if sent to collections. Immediately the lady gave me an address in Golden CO.

HA can not be trusted. Take some time and scroll past the first page on Google and look up reviews on https://www-resellerratings.com. Youtube.com. HA spends allot of money to burry negative comments.

Get ready for a fight. Contacting the right Superviors and getting results your desire for money you have spent..Good Luck.

"If you are a contractor just starting this might work for you. If you are established get ready for a fight. they will deny your Lead Credits almost 90% of the time and will not reverse their decision. You have to give them electronic access to your business bank account that is the DEAL. So, if you can't or won't do that RUN!
If you turn your leads off you will still get leads as "opportunities" if you click on them you will know no more than what your are reading before. We are in the middle of Covid-19 in Michigan with a MANDATORY Stay at home order and they sent me leads and will NOT CREDIT the money back!!!! Oh, so ****! I have been with them 7 years and I am a easy going man. I am willing to understand a lot of things when it comes to money but.......................................Be careful and you have to control your temper becasue they will eventually burn you and it hurts. They used to be Service Master. Look it up...GOOGLE.
They PURCHASED Angie's List for 500 Million. They have big deep pockets. And you are a little fish.

REFUND? You will never get your money back

"The worst company in the world. One day I received the call and they informed me that I had to pay $ 300 for the membership and that they were going to help me get clients. They never told me that they will charge you for each person that enters your page, that is, you still do not make a sale just for them, they give you a phone number and they charge you a fee. The ironical thing is that those people never counted the phone and canceled my 20 hr membership after opening an account. I'm still waiting for my refund. They say they deposited the money into an account that was closed. THIEVES."

Complete Scams

"Totally pray on small businesses for their income. Getting charged for every single lead you get sent regardless if you land the job. 90% of the ppl they send dont answer and for good reason. Their system ****, someone sends in a request then that gets sent to ALL THE CONTRACTORS who have that under their tasks they do THEN THEY EXPECT CONTRACTORS TO CALL THE LEAD. WELL WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE MANY CONTRACTORS CALLING THE SAME LEAD??? I bet the lead will be very annoyed at why they are getting ***-***-**** phone calls.

Horrible for anyone trying to make it out there. Great for home advisor but not for anyone else.

"not sure how this is legal but HA no longer has an insurance requirement. As such all sorts of hacks are now under-cutting the licensed / bonded / insured contractors. Let the buyer beware! "

TERRIBLE! BEWARE

"This company is a scam. I informed the agent I needed same day repair and was booked for a week later! I also gave credit card information and asked when I would be charged. I only wanted to pay upon work completion. I was told I would be charged when the work was complete. I was immediately charged! When I called to cancel I was transferred to 3 different offices. Now I have to monitor to track and ensure I am refunded my money after filing a complaint.

DON'T USE THEM!

Worst Lead Service Available

"Home Advisor provides absolute junk leads and refuses to offer credit for those leads. They also repeatedly charge you for leads you also pay for on Angies list.
Do yourself a favor and pass on this lead service. I promise you if you do you’ll save yourself a lot of headache and a lot of money!

Don't use Home Advisor

"If you go to their site for a recommendation of a supposedly reliable contractor for a certain job, you will start getting calls from random contractors that you have not chosen nor researched. And they will call repeatedly. Before I figured out the scam they are running, I hired 2 of their recommendations and both did terrible work that I had to have re-done. It's "free" to the consumer because contractors are paying for it (and they are not vetted in my experience). It and Angie's List are now one and the same. When you had to pay for Angie's list, it was actually pretty good. Now I won't use either service. "

0 Stars

"This is the worst company I have dealt with in a very long time. They couldn’t do the job when they showed up and wanted more money to come back and do the job. I was fine with paying more in order to get the job done. The so-called contractor kept putting off the job and finally stopped responding to me at all. I Complained to Home Advisors and they rescheduled with another contractor only to cancel the new appointment. Do not do business with this company. Zero stars is not an option here so you must give them 1 star to write a review. According to the information on this site 94.4% of their reviews are 1 star."

Misleading practice

"I had a bad experience with this company recently. I booked a roof cleaning for a large and three story house and was given a quote. I paid for it, and I thought the experience was seamless. The contractor showed up and spent about 4-5 hours on the roof. He then sent me a text with pictures of unfinished portion of the roof and said that if I wanted the whole roof done, I had to pay him more. Otherwise, his time was up, and he was ready to leave. Frustrated, I had to pay him more to get the job done; I did not want to pay another person out to finish the work. I don't know how the contracts between the home advisor and their contractors are constructed, but the experience as a customer like me was not good; I felt I was misled into something and was force to pay more; definitely it was bait and switch. I would never use this service again, and I want people to be careful when booking services through this website."
