"Home Advisor provides absolute junk leads and refuses to offer credit for those leads. They also repeatedly charge you for leads you also pay for on Angies list.
Do yourself a favor and pass on this lead service. I promise you if you do you’ll save yourself a lot of headache and a lot of money!"
"If you go to their site for a recommendation of a supposedly reliable contractor for a certain job, you will start getting calls from random contractors that you have not chosen nor researched. And they will call repeatedly. Before I figured out the scam they are running, I hired 2 of their recommendations and both did terrible work that I had to have re-done. It's "free" to the consumer because contractors are paying for it (and they are not vetted in my experience). It and Angie's List are now one and the same. When you had to pay for Angie's list, it was actually pretty good. Now I won't use either service. "
"This is the worst company I have dealt with in a very long time. They couldn’t do the job when they showed up and wanted more money to come back and do the job. I was fine with paying more in order to get the job done. The so-called contractor kept putting off the job and finally stopped responding to me at all. I Complained to Home Advisors and they rescheduled with another contractor only to cancel the new appointment. Do not do business with this company. Zero stars is not an option here so you must give them 1 star to write a review. According to the information on this site 94.4% of their reviews are 1 star."
"I had a bad experience with this company recently. I booked a roof cleaning for a large and three story house and was given a quote. I paid for it, and I thought the experience was seamless. The contractor showed up and spent about 4-5 hours on the roof. He then sent me a text with pictures of unfinished portion of the roof and said that if I wanted the whole roof done, I had to pay him more. Otherwise, his time was up, and he was ready to leave. Frustrated, I had to pay him more to get the job done; I did not want to pay another person out to finish the work. I don't know how the contracts between the home advisor and their contractors are constructed, but the experience as a customer like me was not good; I felt I was misled into something and was force to pay more; definitely it was bait and switch. I would never use this service again, and I want people to be careful when booking services through this website."
"they won't refund money on leads who's area i don't want to service. they make it a hassle to remove areas, you have to chat and or call in to do that. I'm not gonna spend 30+ minutes removing 100+ zipcodes from LA when I could click them on and off on a map. the map makes it stupid easy to add coverage are but not remove, it's like the feature is not yet enabled, although there is a legend for it.
They won't credit your $30-$80 per lead when they're in an area you don't want to server.
this service is a joke disguised as a marketing tool. "
"1. They're owned by Angies' List.
2. When a customer goes on their site, every contractor in that industry associated with Home Advisor gets the lead and everybody is charged whether they even talk to the customer or not.
3. If the consumer clicks "Budgeting" it means they're trying to figure out what it's going to cost. They're not ready to buy. But everybody in the area gets charged like they are. That is not a legitimate lead.
4. Calls come in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Don't even think about going to the bathroom without your phone or going to a movie because if you do you'll lose out on any chance at the lead.
5. They will shove leads into your inbox and charge you even when your leads are turned off claim ignorance about it and refuse to refund the money even after your show them on your statement that they were wrong.
6. Their customer service reps only know one answer when you call for credit. "No."
7. Be prepared to be on the phone for at least 30 minutes when you do call in because of the high volume of complaints coming in.
8. Their sales reps only care about money and do not care about you if you cannot help them.
9. Their lead quality is terrible. 2 out of 10 are qualified but you have to pay for all 10 no matter what.
10. If you truly want a credit, push past the original person on the phone and ask to speak directly to a supervisor. They will likely issue credit but you never get your money back. It comes in the form of an in-store credit to be used toward future leads which amazingly enough, you'll get a bombed with a bunch of leads in the next 48 hours and exceed that credit by double.
11. Most of those leads will not be good leads."
"Hopefully you're reading this before you sign up with HomeAdvisor. There is a class-action lawsuit with 1,300+ people gunning for them. Between The BBB, ripoffreport, sitejabber (and so many more); there are thousands of people who reported the burden HomeAdvisor is causing them; financially and emotionally. "
"If there is anything less than one star, I will give to Homeadvisor. They scammed me into signing up with them through their "never give up" sales rep. I signed up with $300 and was sent fake leads. They started charging my account for the fake leads until I called my bank to claim my money for service I never received because they refused to cancel my account and make a refund. When I got my money back through my bank, they sent me a bill of $175 for 3 leads that I never do business with and they knew this. When I rejected the bill home advisor sent the bill to collection. This is a terrible company. I think Better Business Bureau should read all these review and take action against fraudulent business behavious as this. Please stay away from Home advisor before you fall a victim. And, if you think you are enjoying their service, goodluck. I am sure the trap is ahead of you. God knows I speak the truth nothing but the truth. I dont mean to bring down any business because I am also a business owner but, I have never experienced this kind of fraudlent business transaction in my life."
"They give jobs to at least 4 pros at a time so you pay for work you never get. They make at least 200 per job while you get nothing "
"I'm extremely disappointment is Home Advisor overall. We signed up several months ago because their sales representative said they made changes and are so much better now. He promised a lot of things that sounded good. They have totally let us done, we called them a over a month ago and asked them to stop our account until they could deliver on the promises the representative sold us on. They continued to charge us for leads we didn't take. We finally had enough and canceled you today. We feel they are a totally unethical company. If we could have given them less stars we would have. We gave them every opportunity to make this right with us and they just kept our money and it seems their people just read the same script and don't give a damn!!!!
Tell all your fellow contractors to stop using them, if we band together maybe this will force them to change the way they treat contractors"
"LIE: Sales rep claims they are receiving 700+ leads per year in my market and there are no other professionals in my area. REALITY: 1 to 2 leads per month
LIE: 80% of leads turn into jobs
REALITY: 10% of leads have turned into jobs
OTHER CONS: Of the VERY few leads I have received, most are "just looking" yet I have paid for these crappy leads. Leads in trailer parks (NOT the good ones - AKA - METHVILLE) where we refuse to do business for safety purposes and they will not refund. I have been charged for leads where the customer does not want to talk to anyone. You will spend 45 min to an hour on hold to speak with someone only to have an extremely frustrating experience attempting to be refunded for leads you cannot even contact. In general - you will spend $300 / year for the membership then for each lead. At the end of the year, it's a loss. Don't bother with HomeAdvisor. It is a BAD business decision I ultimately regret.

"If you work at homeadvisor or scammies list.....you, are, guilty!"
"Iwas with them for a year. I did make a small amount of profit, but the man hours I spent on the phone with them each week trying to get credits, the aggravation, and grief, more than offset the small profit. I was routinely charged for leads that did not even relate to my field of work. I would call in and speak to a rep weekly and they would agree with me that I should not have been sent the lead and should not be charged, but no credit given. I quit after the first year. Four months later they promised me the world to sign up again. In the following the weeks they sent me 11 leads, of which 9 were bad. Again no credit. I quit again. They turned me over for collections because I did not pay for the 11 leads. I will never join again.

"So I checked out Home Advisor over a year ago. Didn't lock down any work as I was going to look into reviews and other things about the company. As I looked I found terrible reviews and the local word of mouth has home advisor ranked as horrible, a rip off, and a scam.
I have called corporate and requested being taken off the call list and they said they did it. I have been continuously contacted but a sales rep named Larry hes stationed out of a whapeton office in north dakota. I have ignored all calls, emails, and messages to still be continuously called. I answer say nothing and end the call only to receive three or four more calls back to back like take the hint. Then after months of this calling game they played on march 6th of 2020, Larry called and I asked to stop contacting me and I hung up.
I was then sent two text messages immediately after ending the phone call basically guilt tripping me for not giving them any follow up calls with the claim from Larry "I thought your business was legit but guess not". I informed him I'll contact corporate and file a complaint since he cant be a professional and leave well enough alone. I told him my reputation is to valuable to myself then the work he could bring, especially when the local word of mouth is poor. He began telling me I was wrong and thg at their reviews were flawless. LIES LIES LIES AND A SCAM CONTACTORS BEWARE.
I simply told him I'm not interested in damaging my reputation and that the complaint against him has been filed for harassing me after requesting to be not contacted further. I have shared post to my business page to steer other clear of this mess in my area! I hope others across the country follow suit. "
"I am not affiliated in anyway with Home Advisor and never would be. Earlier today I was contacted by a sales rep from Home Advisor with a long text message stating a discount to sign up, however the idiot that did so, included me in a group message to over 25 other people. That started a bombardment of responses to all 25 fro each other to get the messages to stop. I called the main number for Home Advisor and they didn't seem to care and acted as though it was normal. Just a few minutes ago, I got another message from the same salesman texteig to call him. This set off another round of responses from about 25 recipients of the same message. I think this is an attempt to get back at companies that have said STOP or requested they do not contact us anymore. The person responsible for this outrage and aggravation should be fired. They have been bugging me for over two years non stop after repeated requests to STOP. Stay away from these idiots."
