"I joined Home advisor to get more business. I had read some bad reviews but decided to give It a try anyway. Sure wish I hadn’t. What a ripoff. I had to pay 300.00 to get started, which is rediculous. That didn’t even include any leads. I was charged for every lead that came in whether or not I wanted it. And the cost is crazy. I paid for 22 leads and got three of them. So I spent almost 500.00 and made about 400.00 with the three jobs. Make any sense? I immediately cancelled my card and cussed them out. I’m done."
"I put in a request and received recommended pros. Sent all 4 pros a message for a quote. No one responded after 2 days (which is their timeframe for response - rather long compared to Yelp and other). Questioned this with online customer service and the response was "do you want to re-submit?" Well, if they didn't respond the first time, I doubt their response would improve the second time... and I wanted the work done within a week, as noted on the request. Will not use them again! Yelp pros responded with 20 minutes - 4 hours!!!! Hired a pro same day."
"Horrible company to work with as a business. They will give you horrible leads and even when they say they changed their mind before you called they will tell you to bad it's not their fault. I even had a "lead" tell me they were looking for a different service and called.for a credit they said no that I need proof. Told them to call the customer and they denied to do that to verify."
"We contracted with them to do a move out cleaning, the first scheduled appointment no show, the second one didn't complete the job. When I contacted Home Advisor all they would do was give a credit on an account that I will NEVER use. They need to be turned into the Better Business Bureau. No one including HomeAdvisor would be expected to pay for services that were not rendered. DO NOT waste your money there are reputable companies out there."
"My husband and I had Superior Aluminum, Winter Park, Florida - branch used in Groveland - install our screened patio. It is incomplete due to 1 of two drains that were to have been installed on our patio floor. I checked with the company three times - since January 22 with my complaint to get an appointment for them to "fix" the oversight. They will not set an appointment to complete. I USED YOUR SITE WITH ITS EXCELLENT RATING FOR THIS COMPANY AND YOU LET ME DOWN. There are numerous complaints I have discovered...hindsight is always 2020. You are where the buck stops since you gave them high marks. "

"Absolutely disappointed with "Home Advisor" and in particular the supervisor, Lillian, who oversee customer relations. FIRST I want to warn with extreme caution for everyone who is looking into this service, to BE AWARE!!!! This is ultimately a scam and potentially a turn fall for anyone wishing to start a small business. Unfortunately I had no one tell me of the horrors before signing up, and now my business is upside down. Let me tell you why- Home Advisor offers you leads, where you are then given the option to connect with that lead (which is someone needing a service you provide)...but the TRICK is that Home Advisor takes a percentage of every lead WHETHER YOU LAND THE JOB OR NOT. So for example- they offer you a lead, you get in touch with that person and come to find out they no longer need services, was looking for something else,etc...BUT home advisor still takes a percentage EVEN if there is no actual work exchange between the business and the person needing the service. Through my experience this happened A LOT! Half of the leads home advisor would send me, would be jobs that I'm not qualified to do, and still yet Home Advisor would take a percentage and fund themselves, when the business owner didn't even get the oppourtnuty to do the actual job. I contacted them to find resolution, to find out they are very un willing to help and be transparent. "
"Service Providers Beware. Home Advisor will charge you $50-$100 (or more depending on your location) for the name and "phone number" of a potential lead even if you contact the lead on several occasions and they never return your phone call. In the beginning you are led to believe you can request a credit for these leads, however you later find out that unreturned calls/messages and/or a homeowner deciding that they don't want to do the project are not reasons for a refund. This is a major scam and I would highly advise any designers, engineers, architects, contractors, etc. avoid using this service."
"They got us twice. Once in 2016 and again in the last few months. They swore the company had changed since we were last in it so we decided to give them another chance. $288 fee to start and we were in. You automatically get charged for each lead and if you don't meet exact parameters you can't get a refund/ credit either. I've requested so many credits they now review each credit that is initially approved and then a few days later I get the declined email. We have sunk over $1000 in leads and the start up fee just in the last few months and have closed exactly ZERO leads. We don't have a problem closing jobs through any other agency or people off the street or who find us on Google. This is the only place we can't get jobs through.
They don't want you to turn off leads when your office is closed (for holidays or just the weekends) so to do so you have to go each time and set it up. No recurring anything. We routinely get leads after we close for the day and by the time we call them in the morning the person has likely already scheduled with someone else so they shut us down IF they even answer the phone.
I was out Friday and forgot to put a hold on the leads for the weekend and of course we got one Friday evening and Saturday morning. I called the one from Friday and he wouldn't give me the time of day. When I mentioned I had gotten his number through Home Advisor he got flat out rude and told me he wasn't looking to have anything done and hung up. Guess what! Since we didn't get to call the customer within 24 hours we are stuck with the $55 lead fee!
We do have one almost promising lead that was scheduled for an estimate last Friday. IF we close that I MIGHT update this, though that one sale will do little to go towards the $1000 we are already out.
I now have the leads temporarily completely off for a week and put the reason as I want them to call, so we'll see if they actually do. Please wait while I hold my breath."

"at first it seemed great, they worked with me to generate leads and if the lead wasnt a good one they would credit it back to me. then after a couple of weeks no matter how bad the lead was ( couldnt get them on the phone or they already had someone else doing the work they were just curious what others would charge for example) their policy suddenly changed and you couldnt get a credit for almost anything. they dont care about getting you business to sustain their business they just want to charge you for leads then when you leave them they go on to the next business to bleed them dry too. as a small business owner trust me, its not worth it!! "
"As a pro we signed up to drum up some work. This place is a scam!!!! An example of this is we were charged $129 for a $150 job! The customer service agents conveniently omit information so they get more charges on your card. The leads are terrible and don't amount to much at all. As a Pro DO NOT USE HOME ADVISOR!!!! You are better off handing out cards!!!! "
"After receiving a few quotes I decided to hire a HomeAdvisor "Pro". My big mistake was to give him a fairly large payment to start, he said it was needed for material and labor to start. Then he sends me a second quote for $1,000 more for additional equipment needed. Excuses, excuses but no work whatsoever for 3 months. I requested my money back, he would not return my money. I called HomeAdvisor about this issue and they offered arbitration through FairClaims (3rd party) at no cost to me. Contractor agreed to participate and after submitting documents, emails, photos, etc. we had an over-the-phone arbitration hearing. I was awarded MOST of my money back (minus about $500) and contractor was supposed to pay me back within 14 days. He never paid me. I went further and filed suit in small claims court and am participating in mediation through my court however he has mentioned that he might file bankruptcy which would end everything and I won't get a dime. Through research I have found he has a criminal record so don't believe it when HomeAdvisor says they check them out! I tell people to seek local trades for home projects NOT HomeAdvisor."

I am disgusted, but not totally surprised, that HomeAdvisor has not yet been shut down by the government. They must have lots of connections in high places in our corrupt government. I would bet they even have offices or datacenters near Washington DC. It is just a shame how our government does absolutely nothing to stop all the scammers and telemarketers out there. The scams and telemarketing in this country has really gotten out of control.
