"Awful experience. 20 phone calls at the beginning, to earn my business. After they got my credit card, they sent me "leads" and charged me automatically. None of the leads answered my call. "This company is garbage. It seems like it's run by a bunch of meth heads under a bridge. They try to charge you for leads and just take the money straight out if your credit card without asking. They sent me to a hoarders house full of cat ****. Now they've spammed my phone with marketing calls for the last couple years since I cancelled membership. "Went thru Home Advisors to locate someone to Pack and clean due to move. Contacted first contractor who would call me back with a quote but indicated they might not be able to meet my timeframe. Contacted another contractor in the meantime who gave me a reasonable quote and was available so I hired them. they sent 3 women to clean 1st before packing. none of them spoke English so I couldn't get them to Pack first. Called supv. who told me they would come back to pack.
one of them broke a light fixture. then they wouldn't leave unless I paid them in full, they could speak well enough to tell me I need to pay them twice the quoted amount and wouldn't leave w/o paymt. I am 70, just out of hospital &dealing with a terminal illness so was not physically able to deal with this so I paid them just so they would leave. I contacted Home Advisors and no response to date. oh by the way, the 1st contractor called me back with an inflated quote then cursed me out for wasting his time when I decided not to hire him and told me I owed him the fee he would be charged by home advisor. I hung up on him. do not hire anyone you know nothing about and get all quot es in writing but Do not use this service!

I tried to get a refund but they said you have to call up to 5 times on multiple days and email and text. Really do they want a remodel or not. Such a scam. I contacted the attorney general of Texas. "Be very carefull with these blackmailers, gangsters, extortionists, scammers EXPERTS! After many months of receiving emails, text messages and indiscriminate calls from this company called Home Advisor, I decided to answer the phone and spend a few minutes hearing their very well trained "employee".

Mr. Logan Khur from Home Advisor was on the phone, he told me that I could try the services of his company called Home Advisor for the special rate of $287,99 a year.

Mr. Logan Khur told me that they would initially charge me to my credit card the amount of $ 287.99 for one year (12 months) and if I was not satisfied in the first 30 days I could unsubscribe and receive the money ($ 287.99) back in my account.

The service, as Mr. Logan Khur told me by telephone, was about contacting people interested in my services (architect or interior designer) in the area near my residence.

I replied that I was agreed, as long as the farthest city was not more than 15 miles from my zip code.

He responded that he was agreed and that they were going to create my profile where it appeared that I as an architect or interior designer would be available for people interested in projects to be completed within 15 miles maximum of my zip code.

After a few days, I started receiving non stop emails from projects available in areas where cities are very distant to which I was available and was not interested). I have saved the capture of the profile created by the Home Advisor company, if anytone is interested on confirming this.

All these "suppossed" projects were more than 60 miles away from where I live and as I said before, I was only interested in projects available in areas no more than 15 miles from my zip code so I did't respond to any of them.

In the 3 weeks testing the profile I did not respond to ANY project or went, nor did I call any project that was sent to me, because I was simply not interested in any project, since they were more than 15 miles from my home.

My big surprise was when I saw my bank statements that this company called Home Advisor had charged me (by providing them my credit card number) and without being authorized to make these charges for a total of 8 unauthorized charges and a total of $ 3,031.47 dollars. (More than Three Thousand dollars in less than 3 weeks)

I couldn't believe it and totally indignant, I called Home Advisor looking for Mr. Logan Khur, they told me he was busy but they could help me.

I commented on my concern and they told me that I was right. That they RECOGNIZED that THEY HAD MAKE A MISTAKE when creating my profile since they had incorporated distant cities up to 100 miles away and that they apologized.

I told them that there was a lot of money that they had charged me on my credit card, a total of $ 3,031.47 dollars and that I wanted it in my account back. They replied that unfortunately the rules of their company prevented them from doing that and that I would have that money in my favor of available credit for future bids.

I told them that I gave up my profile and that I didn't want to know anything about this company, all I want is my money back. They replied again they will not give me any money back!

Seeing these charges, I called my Chase Bank, I explained the situation on the phone and they told me that they were having several customers complaining against this company Home Advisor for doing the same, again and again.

Be very carefull on join their membership or giving them your credit card information, they still are sending me messages saying they will send my information to an external collections agency if I don't pay them back!

This is totally against the law and they are taking advantage of honest people.

"Absolutely terrible!. Contacted to secure a plumber for a clogged kitchen drain, Labor Day Weekend. Agent indicated a plumber would be at my house Saturday morning at 9;30 AM and requested prepayment for the service. Received confirmation of date and time. 10:15 AM no plumber, contacted HomeAdvisor, they could not locate a plumber and had rescheduled me for the next week. No call advising me of this. This is Labor Day weekend had company coming, needed a plumber! After talking with the rep requested my prepayment back and was able to secure a plumber on my own. Very disappointed, will not use HomeAdvisor again "

"Sales people pushed and pushed so I eventually gave in and tried it... wow, what a mistake. A complete wasted money. I wasted $400.00 and got zero business leads. The quality of the leads were poor.... multiple business fighting over the same lead. And it's next to impossible to stop the leads (so you'll keep getting charged)... I've tried for days to cancel my account and I'm still waiting. You cannot manually stop the leads either,.... You have to talk to some pushy sales person and waste your time on the phone. Of course, they hope you just don't waste the time so they can fire up the leads again. Horrible company...I hope they go the way of blockbuster videos.

"Initially leads were supposed to be about $50. The actual price per lead being charged was $110-$125. We would still happily pay for leads if they weren't "dead" leads.

The consumers are mislead to believe they can use the website to simply research information such as pricing while the Contractor is being charged for every person (even if they are not looking for the service to be performed). The leads are being sold to way more contractors than they state upfront.

When a contractor requests a credit for leads that cannot be contacted, do not call back, or were never interested in the first place they are denied. Your card on file is charged at their discretion and there is nothing that you can do about it.

When you call to cancel they try and entice you with a couple of free leads that go no where. If you chose to leave anyway, they call you again and if they can't reach you they reactivate your account without your consent and begin to charge you again.

This is a scam operation. They used to be named ServiceMagic and when they had lawsuits piling up, they changed their name to create distance between the lawsuits and the branded name."

"I am a five star rated business under my he name JB LAK in Indiana who uses Home Advisor. I believe in passing on your experience to assist others to make an informative decision. They talk a good game but fail on delivery. I received a lead from a client who was interested in using Home Advisor for there service. I explained to the customer that they somehow generated a lead requesting service. The customer apologized and stated they would explain when Home Advisor contacted them to verify crediting me for the lead. After explains the situation to two different agents and than a manager. They where unwilling to resolve issue. Supervisor admitted that the agent lied about calling the customer to verify. Also stated he would loose his job if he contacted customer. Expect to not receive credit for leads that have no verifiable information. In return Expect to be charged for every lead that they send , regardless if it’s bad information. I go above and beyond for my customers in every case only to receive horrible customer Service in return . I advise you to stay clear of home advisor and Angies list as they are merged and ask around your local area for a reliable handyman. This company is only interested in making every dollar from its clients and care less to ensure that people needing help get the right help. "

"Booked a cleaning service a month in advance; first contractor called to confirm the day before but the following morning I received an email rescheduling my appointment an hour before. The second appointment came and I again received a rescheduled email. When I called Home Advisor they said "Oh were sorry, it must have been an emergency", come on twice in a row! No phone call to even check if I was available on the rescheduled date either. I called and cancelled the next appointment and requested my money back, it will take 3-5 business days to get it back. I wasted two day sitting around waiting and Home Advisor could care less, I will not do business with them again."

"As a contractor, we were promised quality leads. Most of the so called leads were not even looking for our service, even the ones that set appointments claim that the system does it automatically when they are not even buyers. Then after cancelling they continue to charge us after a year of not using the service. They are the same as Angie's List- you get a good rating on their site if you are paying, but as soon as you cancel service the rating drops. They have no interest in helping people find quality contractors, they just want their money."
