"I am a painting contractor and originally signed up for Home Advisor to receive high quality leads. I was willing to pay for it and created a good profile on their site. Home Advisor does not deliver what they promise. I was charged for leads when I was promised my leads would be paused. I received leads that were not in the realm of my stated skill set. I asked for a refund on these leads and was refused. They told me that it was a computer glitch and they still would not refund me. My first 5 leads never returned my communication within the 72 hour window that was granted to me (Home Advisor said that, on average, that contractors are awarded 75% of the leads they bid on). I had to beg to get refunded on just two of these leads. I see no value from my experience with Home Advisor. In fact it cost me money to engage in this misguided experiment. I cancelled my subscription and am currently disputing the charges with the help of my credit card company."
"Signed up with all good intentions of getting all kinds of leads, according to their sales team. They were more than willing to take our money. They took forever to get my account set up correctly. They could never get it right. 2/3 of the leads were worse than tire kickers, so no good biz. The other 1/3 were completely bogus. Home advisor claims you can get a refund but they have an automated system and there's no way to contest their ruling when they don't offer a refund. Most leads that have bogus numbers they won't refund. I've since cancelled my account. I'm out $288 sign up fee plus over $200 for bogus leads they won't refund. I really believe they have shills calling in to rack up their charges, then they won't refund when you can't get a hold of them. My advice is to stay clear. Our Google Ads generate much better leads than this website."
"I am a custom woodworking contractor In Brooklyn and I signed up with home advisor during a slow period. They explained to me that there is a yearly fee of 350 dollars and that is all I will be charged. I was supposed to receive another phone call the next day after my background check was approved to walk me through the entire process on how to use the service but our schedules conflicted and a few days went by that we hadn’t spoken again. In those few days they charged me over 900 dollars in “leads” that I never responded to. The one lead that I did click on to view, I called them and they explained that this person was not there and they never signed up to look for work on home advisor. IT WAS A FAKE LEAD. They are a HUGE SCAM and I don’t even know how they are still in business. This should be taken down by whatever jurisdiction has the power to because it’s hurting hard working small businessmen and women throughout the country. "
"Initially it sounds enticing with National Advertising to generate leads for both Residential and Commercial Leads. To start, you need to pay between $250-$300 for a year membership, profile created within portal, background check conducted and then pay for individual leads ranging from $15 to $200 each. I racked up $2,900 in leads and received less than $500 in booked work. At $2,900 + $300, these promotional dollars would have been better spent setting up a booth at regional trade show or a years worth of print advertising. My advise, use Thumbtack!
I signed up for commercial work and received leads from Churches, Educational Facilities and Government Projects that I had to pay for, even when they are not really commercial projects. They have a policy were you have to respond to a customer within 24 hours, calling and not emailing to make initial contact or you have to pay for the lead.
Quality of lead are poor. More than half of leads are dreamers with no intention of proceeding with project or companies looking to set budgets for projects for work later in the year, but you are forced to pay up front for a lead that may or may not pay out! The most aggravating aspect of service is they force feed you leads from customer or jobs not suited to your services!
The Opportunities, are leads from Consumers that review your profile and want to hear from you, giving about an hour to respond, stupid policy! They obviously do not understand Contracting thinking you can respond in less than hour when working at a project!
Since signing with HA, I have scam contacts that pop up on my business line 2x each Day, it was so bad I had to change phone numbers! I also am getting out of state contacts from Companies I have no interest in hearing or conducting business!

"Had a sales man call from Home Advisor and we talked for a bit then he called back a few times over a couple months I noticed the phone # always came up in the area code from my state so I called it back one day and had a lady answer from elsewhere in my state, I apologized and said wrong number, That was the first red flag. Second I checked the reviews from other then Home Advisor and most of them are horrible. Home Advisor screens the reviews it posts for a better rating. I answered the call from Home Advisor and told the sales person I decided not to advertise with them, He then asked me why and I told him about the Phone and the ratings and he got irritated and told me how wrong I was and what a mistake I was making I then told him if Home Advisor was a legitimate company why do they have to hide behind a fake phone #, Thats when he just hung up on me. Either it was a scam or Home Advisor is a scam itself ! "
"I was in a need to replace some stucco on my wall at the side of my house to repair, first I called 2 Handyman and scheduled a time each to get an estimate, it was Jaw dropping with their pricing to fix a medium portion on my wall. Totally ridiculous. I called to get another 3rd quote From Service Matters Handyman...(Paul Sandberg)...when Paul took a look at the wall that needed repair and gave me a price, I told him he can have the job. My husband and I was very satisfied with his price and talent how he fixed our wall. After a day or so, we gave him more projects to do. Amazing work. We will always call Paul in the future for any repairs. Paul is reliable, honest, and hard working. I didn’t look any further for anyone else for an estimate. Three is a charm"
