"We signed up with HA in December of 2018. They listed us in areas that we did not want to be listed in and continued to charge us even after we called to have them correct their error. It took a few phone calls for them to actually list us in the area that we wanted. They refuse to refund our money and will only offer credit. Most of the leads were junk leads where we could never even contact the potential customer but we are still charged. They are tricky and will charge you more than you ever thought. Once they have your credit card number you are like an open bank account for them. Stay away from Home Advisor."

"When you put your advertising on pause they answer the phone number that they assign to your profile with your company's name. They tell the lead we are busy now and can help you find another electrician to help you. This is crazy! "
"This review is from the contractor side - actually architect - and one should know that HomeAdvisor didn't really check ANY references before they started sending "leads" to me. 90% were just shopping - and had no idea what or how an architect worked. They were not screened for anything. The last straw was callers with NO money at all - yet I was charged over $80. You think this service is FREE to home owners - hardly! The contractors are charged significant amounts to get your name - anywhere from $50 to $125. They pass that along to you in whatever number they give you. And it is more if through HomeAdvisor.
On the customer side, I used HomeAdvisor to find an electrician. He gave me a cost - which was at least 50% more than the NON-HomeAdvisor electrician. Don't know how many people may read this, but my advice is to ask friends or check the YP for someone - it will be cheaper and if you are a contractor, stay away from these ripoff people."

"I too wish I would have seen this before I spoke to them. My account was not supposed to go live until I told them too. I had hoped when I was slow and needed the leads. In preparation for this I let them do the back ground check. You have to tell a machine your name etc for this to occur. The machine said, “if you want to start getting leads after your approved press 1 and if you don't press 4 (or something like this)”. I pressed 4 and nothing happened so the rep on the line with me said, “It is just a formality, I know you don't want to start yet, so I will press 1 and not start the account until you say”. I let him. Once I was approved, of course, the account went live. Then they charged me for leads, I could not even drive to and back in 8 hours they where so far away. Then of course when you try to cancel the service, they will not take this for an answer and have to charge you anyway for there is nothing they can do. Lucky for me my credit card service, is very cool, and they reversed the charges. Yay!! for Capital One and Boo for Homeadvisor."
"I own a general contracting business and have been in business for 12 years. Like any contractor we have some slow times through the year, so I decided to try home advisor. As this site may been convenient for customers looking for a contractor it is a nightmare and a scam for a contractor! First off contractors are not really screened as advertised, pretty sure they would take any contractors money, seams they really enjoy doing this. Second as it is free for the looker, every click they make a contractor is charged, and it is very difficult to get a refund on these. Also they never refund money they only give the contractor credits towards more clicks. In one week my company was charged $700 and I DID NOT get a single meeting from all of this money. PLEASE STOP USING THIS WEB SITE! If you need a quality contractor please just ask friends and family for recommendations and avoid this site. "
"I called in to cancel my membership because I was sick on wasting money on bad leads and decided to take a break from construction for a bit. The person I spoke with convinced me to keep it open and we would just freeze the account for 90 days in case I was decided to start back up again. Checked my account to find a $281 annual membership charged that he could have told me about during our discussion. I was stupid enough to stick around so they could take more money. Called them again furious and they refused to refund my money and even tried to pull the same crap and keep me around to charge me again in the future. Not to mention all the scammers they gave my number to asking me to do work with some excuse why they could not meet me at the project and asking me for my information. Please save yourself the stress, headache, time, and money and don't use their service/scam."

"I'm the owner of a remodeling company. I received a lead for a $78 kitchen remodel. When I tried to contact the person, the phone was disconnected and the email bounced back. Why on earth would a person earnestly looking for a remodel give bad contact information? To answer this, I began searching for this customer and discovered that she did indeed live at the address cited on the lead from 2005-2008. Our country treasurer website has a different person listed on the title of the property. So this customer doesn't currently own or live at the address HA sold to me. Upon further investigation, I learned that this potential customer PASSED AWAY in 2015!! HA has told me the only way they get their leads is from customers filling out their request on the HA website. So this remodel request is a paranormal phenomenon! This is a perfect example and proof that HA sells fraudulent, contrived, and/or made up leads."
"Telemarketer calls me claiming they have 40 leads for me... yet they assumed I was a contractor.
The moment they find out that I am a REALTOR, they hung up on me. Rude, unprofessional and have no idea what or who they are calling to solicit business.

"We chose to use Home Advisor after numerous calls from their representatives Alex and Nick Danilo. At first we were told they have jobs that they need contractors for, but can't find any in our area that can pass a back round check.. Odd? A little.. But moving on, going from having no contractors to sending the same recycled leads to a half a dozen contractors when we were promised to be the only one. When we decided to not continue with them, they continued to charge us. When their charges were neglected by the payment option they had, they called us with a recording call threatening to send us to collections. We immediately called the number provided on the recording to find out they will NOT write those charges off and proceeded to ask us for payment.. Not to mention, we had not received a lead in over 2 months!! This place takes the cake when it comes to scams! DO NOT USE THEM ITS ALL A LIE!!"
