"Do not trust the "in stock" markings on items from LightingUniverse (or any of the myriad sites ATG operates). They apparently drop ship from manufacturers and have no real idea when something will ship. After ordering a picture light on 2/10, they stated a ship date of 2/22. That was too long, but I decided to live with it. On 2/22 they emailed that shipping would be delayed until 3/5. Now I don't know what to do since there is an eerie consistency in how far apart the notice date and ship date are. Fiction?"
"I ordered from them because their website showed that 4 of the items I wanted were in stock as of 2/3/10 then after placing the order they advised the items were backordered until late May. I find this to be deceptive advertising. When I contacted the Company to complain, they were not very apologetic and couldn't give me a reasonable explanation for this. Then when I said I would cancel the order, they asked me to be sure and read their return policy which makes no sense - how can you return something that you have never received and apparently won't for some time. "BEWARE of ordering from this company if you think you will return the item!!! I bought 5 small glass shades for my track lighting in a color that I didn't like. The shades came via UPS in 5 tiny boxes (about the size of the palm of my hand) which were packed in a larger, yet still small box that weighed 2 pounds, according to the UPS label. Since the cost was over $100 (around $121), I got what I thought was a great deal that included free shipping. When I initiated the return, I expected the 10% restocking free that the return policy stated. What I didn't expect was a $44 charge for THEIR shipping costs from the manufacturer!!! They claim that the manufacturer charged them $8 per shade even though the shades all came in one small box. Since I will only get back 1/2 of what I spent, I've decided not to return the item, and I will never again buy something from the internet unless I am sure I won't return it. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY."
"BUYER BEWARE! I have ordered twice from Lighting Universe. The first fixture did not suit my kitchen remodel, so I returned it. Their return procedure is a pain in the neck. You have to contact the store and request a return number. The staff is not well trained and different employees will give you different information. I followed their instructions and returned the first fixtures on 11/14/09 and ordered a replacement, which I received. As of 12/27/09, they STILL HAVE NOT REFUNDED MY MONEY ON THE RETURNED FIXTURE.I have called them numerous times and nobody has told me why my money has not been refunded. (It is also true that when you call, you are on hold for a VERY long time before a person answers your call. It seems that they hope you will get tired and hang up.) Twice, their customer service people sounded oh so helpful and said they would call me back, also gave me their direct extensions, but they never called back. And when I attempted to call them using their "direct extensions," someone else answered and said the person was away from her desk and would call me back. NOBODY CALLS BACK. NOBODY GIVES YOU ANSWERS. NO MONEY IS REFUNDED. If you know exactly what you are ordering, you are likely to receive a good, intact product and be satisfied with the company, but if you have to return an item, you likely WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR REFUND. I had to contact my credit card company to dispute the purchase. This is not pocket change, this was a $92 LIGHTING FIXTURE NOT REFUNDED. BUYER BEWARE!!!"

I ordered a hanging light fixture for my dining room. It was shipped without a necessary part - the chain to hang it from the ceiling. I contacted the company to arrange to return it (since I had to buy a replacement on my own because the electrician was at the house to install it). After waiting on hold for almost 30 minutes, a rep named Paul told me that they would arrange for UPS to pick up the light fixture (at ATG's expense) and I would get credited the cost back to my Visa card once they received it. So, I was very pleased.
This is what actually happened...I was sent an email from ATG saying it was my responsibility to return and pay for shipping the package back to them and also I would be charged a $10 non-refundable shipping fee as well.
I called them back - again waited over 30 minutes to speak to a rep. A rep named Tina told me that Paul was new and didn't know what he was doing. She also told me that they could have sent me a chain for the lamp (the darn chain should have been in the box to begin with). She also told me that there were no managers to speak to because all of the managers were training new employees. She said that she would get back to me via email after speaking to a manager but I never heard from her.
I will NEVER EVER use this company again and I will do everything I can to warn other people against using them. What a difference 3 years makes. I used ATG to purchase kitchen cabinet hardware in 2006 or 2007 (can't remember the exact date) - they couldn't have been more helpful. The customer service was excellent. I raved about them to everyone.
What a disappointment that they have turned into an unethical online shopping site with too few "live" employees to help customers calling to resolve issues. "
