"I'm putting a new PC together, so I ordered all my parts at about the same time from various vendors, as available. The power supply I needed was out of stock everywhere except Micro Center. I placed my order 4/21, expecting a 5-7 day wait for processing before shipping. When it was approaching the 1-week mark, I started calling Micro Center to check up on the order, since online my order status never graduated from "routed" to "pending." Called 3 days in a row, waiting on hold about 2 hours each time just to speak with a representative, was told each time that it was in stock and should be shipped soon. They even said they would upgrade the shipping to expedited at no cost to me, pending manager approval. That never happened, no one ever called me back like they said they would. Tried chatting online, one guy said "hold on let me check on it" and never returned. So 4/30 rolls around and I get an email saying they canceled my order for lack of product availability. They made me wait 9 days and then canceled my order so fast my head was spinning. This is the last component I need for my build, and I can't test any of my components to be sure they work until I get a power supply.
Honestly, who accepts an online order and then discovers after 9 days that they don't have the product in stock? You assign incoming orders to your stock and then ship it out. When all your stock is assigned to incoming orders, you notify potential customers that you are out of stock. If an order is canceled, you make the product available again for purchase until that stock runs out. Micro Center doesn't know how to do this. When I called in, the representative kept saying their stock is "live" and that in-store customers are buying from the same product pool. Yet when I pressed him on that, since I ordered from the web store and not a physical store and therefore my order would be coming from a warehouse and *not* from a store, he didn't have a response for me.
Long story short, shopping Micro Center's web store is a huge risk if you don't like having your time monumentally wasted, they don't know logistics or inventory management, and they will make you wait a painfully long time and then cancel your order unceremoniously and without any sort of offer in return (such as a reasonable store credit toward a future purchase) because they don't actually assign your order to stock they have on hand.
I ended up purchasing my power supply through a competitor of theirs who *does* know how to track their inventory and assign orders, and it was shipped out the day after I placed my order.
Micro Center's stores are a sight to behold, if you enjoy computers, computer parts, and peripherals. But their web store is an abysmal failure."
