"Omaha Steaks claims to sell Premium steaks and sets the prices of their product as if it were Prime beef. As a trained chef, I know a good quality steak. The stuff that comes out of Omaha Steaks is not it. The quality of their product barely reaches Choice grade, far less Prime. I buy my steaks at the Club stores where the quality of their Choice meat is far superior. It's my opinion that Omaha is perpetrating consumer fraud.
Each week I receive as many as 5 advertisements from Omaha Steaks across both postal mail and electronic mail formats. Their catalogs and promotions promote big discounts from alleged sky-high prices that are completely out of touch with the market. For example, they sell their 80% lean "Omaha Steaks burgers" 8 x 5oz burgers for the artificially inflated price of $49, which equates to $19.60 per pound. Hamburgers in the retail market sell for 20% of this price (Kroger $3.52/lb) . Even when Omaha discounts their steaks in their regularly advertised sales, ($29.99) the burgers are still priced at at $12 per pound, still an outrageous price. This deceptive pricing practice is called Price Anchoring and is prohibited by the Federal Trade Commission under 16 CFR 233.1 et al. This amounts to consumer fraud.
This is not all about price. The consumer can always go elsewhere when a seller sets unreasonable price. But Omaha promotes their product as premium -which it is not. They also claims that they provide replacement or money-back guarantee. This is also a false warranty. At best, you may get a gift card, but in two cases where I have submitted a complaint, the gift cards never arrived.
I've had enough. I am looking for other consumers who have had similar complaints about Omaha Steaks and it's retail subsidiary, OS Sales dba Omaha Steaks Store. It is my intent to find enough consumers that are fed up with this deception to join me in filing a lawsuit with the intention of establishing a class action complaint to seek damages from a company that continues to defraud the American consumer. If you are interested in joining me, please reach out to me before April 30, 2021 and briefly convey your story. My email OSComplaint "at" chef "dot" net. If I can establish a big enough list of people with similar stories, I will take this to the next step."
"In the first place I would have never purchased anything from them since I knew they were a rip off already. My wonderful neighbor gave me a 150.00 gift certificate as a Christmas gift. After looking on their site many times for 2 months, not finding anything I was interested in. With every package they sell to make it appear that you get more they stuff it with a bunch of junk like hotdogs, deserts, hamburger patties just to raise the quantity count to make you think you are getting more. It's kind of like buying a 500 piece bolt and washer set only to find that 450 of the pieces are bolts and washers so extremely small that you will never have a use for or buying a 450 piece Craftsman tool set that figures out to less than a 1.00 per tool. that includes the 320 pieces are nothing but junk. So finally I decided I had to order something. I had to add about 25.00 to get one of the boxes. I saw the box delivered and being a little sick, I didn't want to go it it right away to wag the box up the stairs. 30 minutes later my tiny wife went outside and brought it up the basement stairs with one arm wrapped around the package and her phone and another package in the other hand and set it on the freezer. (I wasn't in the room but I think when she dropped it, the package gently floated to the freezer) It was a light box to contain 175.00 of meat. I opened up the Styrofoam box and everything was neatly packed in thick cardboard boxes. I put everything away but had to try the bacon wrapped Filet Mignons. The first thing I noticed was the bacon was thicker than the Mignon it was wrapped around. also to get the 4 oz they had inserted a piece of steel to aid in cooking which allowed for a good portion of the 4 oz weight. I could put my finger and thumb together and pretty much drop the Filet through the circle they created without spreading my fingers apart. The 2 bites were good but no different than if you purchased it for 1/10th the cost. To sum it up. I would never buy anything else from these conceded jerks. It's 99% hype. The meat is no better quality for so much money. I would estimate the entire box was probably worth the 25 dollars I had to add to get the order. I will suggest to my wonderful kind hearted neighbor that if he wanted to get someone else a omaha steaks gift to just skip the middle man. Just donate 125.00 to omaha steaks and save someone the hassle of having to order. It's simply not worth it. I don't know how these people stay in business and am very curious if they ever had anyone to order from them a second time. And another warning is after you give them your email address they will swarm you with many emails EVERYDAY. To me that is a sign of a desperate to sell hyped up company."
"Once you order something or sign up to their webpage be prepared to be in your dated with text messages every week and there is no way to get off their mailing list or contact list"
"I ordered a package for a relative and it was five days late in arriving. Needless to say, it was not finally delivered frozen. Omaha Steaks is replacing the entire order at no cost! Now that is a business with class!"
"Cooked up the steaks today wow what a nice piece of steak spoon cut full flavor will order again."
"Yes I love all my food and their deals. My family love the dinners. I got a friend here is having surgery a time of meals for her. What a great company!"
"My order was delivered on the day it was to ship-so my husband got a early present. He was so excited to cook the bacon wrapped filet mignon. They cooked perfectly and smelled amazing but eating them was a different story. There was so much gristle in them it was not right. The burgers had great flavor and cooked great much better than the filets. Not going to waste my money on gristle."
"2 stars is a gift - this place is extraordinarily high priced for what you get. Had a $100 gift card and added another $160 of my own money to it - we received a VERY basic meal for a family of 4 for $260. I actually had to laugh when we received our cooler with a few small boxes of items - how does a place like this stay in business? Value is everything these days - even for a wealthy person this doesn’t seem like a good choice. "
"Unless you live in a total food desert, with no access to local butchers or fishmongers, or a big box store like Costco or Sams Club, do yourself a favor and save your money.
To be fair, my boyfriend and I are foodies, and we make a homemade dinner every night. We are good in the kitchen, and we rarely eat out. I was curious to try Omaha Steaks and went for one of their specials for Christmas.
I purchased the Butcher's Family Favorites and the Argentian Red Shrimp. So far we've eaten the shrimp, the filets, and the scalloped potatoes.
The shrimp has an ok taste, doesn't smell fishy, but is very small (about 25-35 count), and has a terrible texture. It's true they cook quickly and are very easy to overcook. While edible, they are far from delicious and definitely not worth the premium price.
The filets were a disappointment. They were very tender, but not what the pictures show, they are very thin for a filet, a little over 1" thick, two pieces had gristle and inedible silver skin. The flavor was nothing special. Again edible, but wildly overpriced.
The scalloped potatoes also were nothing special -- they were bland, not very cheesy or creamy, or anything really. The single portion sizes were interesting, and it was novel that they stay in one piece while warming/browning in the oven -- it would make for an elegant presentation -- but other than the novelty, you can get better flavor out of a boxed kit if you replace the powder cheese for real cheese.
Interestingly, I can't leave a review on their site. Reaching out to CS, I get the following response:

They do get 2 stars for timely delivery, food arrived in good shape, customer service is responsive.
Otherwise, save your dough.

"I ordered 3 orders for Christmas gifts. Had I ordered 1 package I would have gotten free shipping and a single cooler. Since I ordered 3, I could not get separated coolers for 3 gifts without paying to ship. Why would I place 3 orders for 3 gifts if I did not want 3 coolers? Such a rip-off.........I terminated the order. "
"Website customer service "Contact Us" form never gets a reply.
Very strange this website has so many four star reviews yet there is nowhere on the website that provides any method for customers to submit reviews."
"Terrible..total crap food"
"I’ve been buying at Omaha Steaks for years. But I limit my purchases to their Omaha Steaks Burgers (not the gourmet burgers) which are consistently good, have enough fat to provide a juicy burger and often go on sale in their retail stores for 50% or more off the ridiculous regular price. (Honestly, I’m surprised that the FTC hasn’t prosecuted Omaha Steaks for its false pricing models.) I stay away from their lower fat Gourmet Burgers which I find dry out even when cooked to medium. And don’t make me laugh when you tell me about their Kobe burgers!. Kobe style is normally produced to result in a hevily marbled flesh that is tender and juicy when cooked. If you want high fat ground beef, just buy an 80% mix of ground round. No sense in shelling out Kobe prices for ground meat. But I diverge. Recently, the price of Omaha’s Steak Burgers, even on sale, has gone up to a point where I debate returning, even when there is a doorbuster sale.
But when it comes down to steaks, I stay far away from Omaha Steaks. Their standard fare is Choice quality, but they charge far above Prime Prices. It’s beyond obscene. I know how to cook a perfect steak. On my grill, Omaha Steaks is consistently less tasty, less juicy and less tender than what I can find at the local club stores for a fraction of the price. I can even buy Prime cuts at the club stores for less than the what you pay for Choice Cuts at Omaha Steaks. Unless you’re made of money, their Prime prices are set so you are throwing a donation to them with every purchase. And that doesn’t even include the cost of shipping.
When you mix seller greed with consumer ignorance, somebody benefits. HINT: It isn’t the consumer."
"so,I received a gift card for Father's day. First let me say how impressed I was in the packaging of my order...while I have yet to explore the other items that await,I first started simply with the gourmet jumbo franks...I was making hot dogs and Mac n cheese for the kids and decided that this would be my dinner.First I cooked them in my air fryer...which by the way cooks hot dogs perfectly...then I buttered and grilled my two-sided buns to a nice golden brown and simply added mustard...While I could have dressed them with a lot of other detail...(And probably will in the future)...I must say that it was the best hot dog experience I've ever have!I can't wait to explore the remainder of my order and must inform that you have a new customer...Very Impressed!!!"
"My Father’s Day delivery arrived to Hawaii on time without delay, intact, expertly packed, completely frozen, with dry ice to spare! Dad is extremely particular about his meat products, but has not stopped raving about the quality of product and taste! I know he is pleased with the hamburgers, steak, and other treats sent to him because he has not offered to save any for me to try."
A rep from Omaha Steaks, OSCustomerCare, has responded:
“Thank you for your feedback! We do hope you do enjoy your tasty items once it arrives. Thank you for choosing Omaha Steaks!!!”
