"Assured me that items ordered were NOT refurbished and were brand new in original packaging.

Received three items in generic bubble wrap. There was no invoice, no instruction manual, no original packaging whatsoever.

Called overstock.com, originally was told that they had no way of knowing how the item is originally packaged from the manufacturer, and that these theoretically could be packaged in this way by the manufacturer. I doubt these items would be placed on shelves in retail stores with no instruction manual, no box, no anything (not even identifying marks as to the make and model of the item). Still, they insisted this could be the case, but the CSR "had no idea for sure."

Asked to speak with manager who was more helpful, acknowledged they "may" be a refurbished item, and that it was probably mislabeled on the website. Assured me it would be corrected, and provided a good discount to make it right. Thumbs up for that, though after 3 weeks the website still has not changed, so buyer BEWARE that you are actually getting a NEW item and not a refurbished item. In my case, one of the three headsets I ordered smelled like cigarette smoke.

Also be wary of the reviews on Overstock's website. I posted a review stating what I wrote above, and it was never posted. I figured maybe I forgot to hit "submit" or made another mistake in submitting my review, so I wrote another one. It also was either deleted or never posted, as I checked back to make sure it was actually published. It still has not been published after several weeks.

2. Use online chat to ensure discounted items are actually "brand new" and not "refurbished." Keep a record of this communication, because you may receive a refurb when it was not listed as such on the website.

3. Customer service if this happens was excellent if you get past the initial CSR who may supply the same misinformation as the website itself. Speak with manager where possible.

"Just watch out on fine jewelry. I was looking at a 3 ct diamond ring. It says it is "EGS" certified...There is no such thing as the EGS!!!
Many of their stones are artificially treated, so if this concerns you, be leery. The top gem labs do not usually certify diamonds that have been treated, and since the "EGS" labs do not exist as far as I can tell, I would not trust any certificate from overstock.com. You get what you pay for and $6000 for 3 carats of diamonds did not seem right to me. Actually, I looked through many of their diamond rings and they all seem to be very low quality. I1 or I2 clarity at best, unless treated.
As far as positive feedback I will give them this...My first purchase was for this Christmas 2008. The jewelery is beautiful to look at and just as described. I complained about the horrible packaging they sent it in, and they gave me a credit so that I can buy my own box for a decent presentation. I just do not trust them for fine jewelry. I bought $200.00 earrings and they were just thrown in a cheap cardboard box. No label or anything saying they are genuine gold and diamonds.
Bottom line...Yes, the items I received look just as described...But who knows? Cheap box, no labels...I feel like I overpaid. The way they ship makes diamonds and gold look like silver and marcasite or onyx, at best. I hope my mom doesn't open her gift and wonder what is next. They just don't look real. I really hope they are.

"I ordered an Energy C-C100 center channel speaker, and they sent me a box containing 2 Energy C-100 bookshelf speakers.

An easy mistake to make if you aren't paying attention, I suppose, but completely unacceptable for this type of site which only has limited inventory of each item.

They sold out of the center channel speaker which I really wanted, so they can only give me a refund.

I've ordered from Overstock previously and it went just fine, so this is really upsetting. The moral of the story is CALL FIRST before you order."

says nothing about refurbished, and suppose to have 1 year warranty, so the screen says 11/08, they might change it later.

they sent me a refurb with 90day warranty. i would never buy a refurb plasma, b/c there is no telling how much life is left on the crystals.

i called philips to get a new one, b/c the quality of the refurb was sub par: 10% of the pixels didn't work, a button was missing. Philips says they're not an authorized retailer and will not uphold the warranty. the site never said they weren't authorized, only that a warranty was included and it was stated at the wrong period.

i wouldn't not buy anything big budget from these guys it's probably all refurb items.

btw, Overstock customer service was shocked that it was a refurb and insisted it should have been new, but wouldn't send me out another. great run around from philips to overstock.

"I received a quilt from this company today that smells like it was soaked in kerosene. I think it was made in a third world country and washed in some kind of bug spray. The quilt itself was pretty enough that I tried to wash the chemical out but that was a big mistake because the washing didn't make a bit of difference and now my washer and dryer smell like it.

Everything that touched the quilt smells of it too. The quilt is packed up and outside on my porch waiting to be returned. It's about 25 degrees out and I have all the windows open to try to get the smell out of my house, but it's still so bad that my eyes sting and my throat is raw.

I've ordered from Overstock before. The prices are good but the quality has been disappointing. This latest thing, though, is on a whole other level. I would not recommend ever buying from them. This is gross negligence. "
